Haven't had a chance to play the game , I'm a truck driver & I'm currently on the road for work, but I am really looking forward to this game. I love playing the support/healer role in hero shooters.
Played with a venom who kept spamming he needed heals so during the switch I said "I have 25k heals I'm trying" he says it wasn't my fault and that it was our loki, then says that "but rocket is just a bad character pick". We won the game and I finished with 44k heals and 36 assists! My highest heal game! Rocket is underrated! 😂
That's why im liking Cloak & Dagger right now, incase Im the only stratergist. They cover a lot of ground in terms of big healing, range and upclose damage, protection, blind etc.
i love Rocket is Overwatch Baptiste 2.0. But they improve Baptiste so much here. Healing bullet is now richoceting like Moira, Resurrection disk instead of Death immunity disk, Damage boost disk instead of damage boost widow, and JETPACK instead of Jump boots They knew the game is chaotic enough and players didnt need more complex mechanic. Baptiste has so many kits on him that it made him clunky to play and new dev didnt know what to do on him except changing number up and down in every patch. I believe the devs are used to play overwatch and experiencing the frustation of playing Baptiste. Players no longer need to timing when to throw their Death immunity disk, didnt need to ask everyone to group up and shoot through small damage buff window, didnt need to crouch first to jump very high, and they didnt need to jump or reaching high ground to get maximum healing value Its peak. Seeing devs doing the homework that Blizzard never did and Blizzard then crying Netease doing better job than them
Agreed, simpler characters are better. When it's complicated, characters need to be balanced for both high end ranked and low end ranked which makes balancing difficult.
@5:30 Bucky/Winter Soldier is actually more like a 3 projectile revolver. It looks like a shotgun but does surprisingly good damage at a range. Place it in a good location to benefit punisher’s rifle as well as Bucky in games like these :)
Broooo I play rocket just like u. But it’s hard out here playing healer. Everyone auto clicks dps. It’s so hard to get a solid team comp. Even in competitive
Honestly i feel the same. I think when you play solo healer that Mantis or Cloak and Dagger feel like a fair pick. Rocket has spammable heals but Mantis has better self and group healing with heals over time. Cloak has limited heals over time but you can fly and self peel a little and usually hide from a safe distance bounce healing and use the healing circle to beam people down / heal group.
u can use shift whilst ur wall running in any direction and it’ll launch u further than a regular boost. i use it loads when diving iron man or storm or to just run away if im being dived
I've been playing a lot of Loki and admittedly, while I'm nowhere near this level of play, I do still really enjoy playing support, Rivals has been one of the few games where I genuinely love playing support.
When ever I’m solo healing, I always like to use Jeff just for the pure healing output. But rocket might be nice to bounce healing to them from around walls.
I feel like Jeff has a harder time because his heals are all in a straight line with little give to it (have to be pretty accurate); this prevents him from healing people out of line of sight which happens a lot. Also, as Rocket, you can ricochet the healing balls off walls to heal people, keeping yourself out of LOS from characters like Hawkeye. Rocket's heals also heals himself as they're coming out which allows him to keep himself up more easily vs. Jeff where he either has to 'swim' or spit out a bubble - both of which means you stopping healing on your team. As far as ults go, even though I don't particularly love Rocket's, Jeff's ult requires him to put himself in the line of fire and the value you get it from is very varied, making it so if you use it, you can potentially die and leave your team without a healer until you get back. I think Jeff is good but if I'm solo healing, I'd definitely prefer Rocket for his ability to keep a constant stream of healing and his ability to revive.
Just a quick tip: Rocket's wall run is faster then when he walks normally. So when going out of spawn, you can often run on the walls as it often is a tight corridor and use your dash outside, where it is more of an open space.
Rocket gets the most healing (from what I’ve seen) as he can heal all 6 players with one bullet Most supports need to individually aim and heal a player and half the time can’t heal themselves without abilities Rocket heals himself by default with his main weapon. Most healers need supers or their abilities Rocket being able to heal everyone at the same time is amazing Also I’ve heard a bullet can’t stack heals with rockets healing. Adding more shots just extends the duration of the healing. Each bullet heals for six seconds for a character and unloading all of it hypothetically can extend to 48 seconds of healing. Spamming the healing literally only extends the first bullets healing effect and carries it to the next bullets duration So ricocheting bullets in a room can only heal for 6 seconds Don’t spam healing with rocket, shoot them in different directions to heal way more area than a single person
i started playing mantis like my first game, my third game i tried rocket and fell in love! i try to play him every game I can, if I can’t play him I go cloak or mantis, maybe luna too.
Tbh, merits for you team, being inside your healing radius, using cover properly and helping with the disengages, this doesn't really happen in solo ranked, even with comms
Honestly, I don't think it'll matter because if the enemy team knows that you're single healing, all if they have to do is kill you and the team falls apart so even if they die diving you, so long as they kill you, it would be all worth it. This is why I was very surprised to see that they had a Psylocke and didn't ult him because Rocket just falls over if Psylocke ults him (arguably one of the most frustrating things about playing Rocket).
The 2 supports I feel like can solo support are rocket and Jeff. Every other team I see try it loses bc the base healing outside ultimates is too little compared to the other 2
Counter-intuitively I've done fine soloing with mantis by spliting between damage boosting and healing rather than focusing entirely on healing. The faster they get kills the less damage they're taking. Managing to land headshots makes it much easier tho of course.
I am guessing that the reason for that is Rocket mains (and maybe Jeff, I'll defer to Jeff players on that ) are used to having to prioritize healing to a near exclusion of attacking. Solo-ing, for that reason requires little adaptation in game play, it's just a higher demand on the same tactics. The other characters have better attacks, and less demand on their time to healing, so when the player gets thrown into a solo-situation, they have to adjust their concept on how they play the game fundamentally.
You’ll never get mvp with this character no matter how much he heals the whole team. But I still love the role you play as this character I just wish his damage is higher.
That’s the biggest problem with this game, everyone wants MVP. So you end up having Supporters trying to DPS and Tanks scared to get KO’d too much. Hopefully they prioritize other stats besides K/D for that award
Im making my mission to try and. Get MVP. Its seems actually impossible. But i can give you 25k heals, like 5 kills, 30 assists, and like maybe 4k damage lol
I disagree, I've gotten it a myraid of times on Rocket, I've got screenshots handy & two mvp matches posted on my alt channel (which is linked on my channel). I feel like the MVP parameters are where they should be. I do agree with that it would be nice if his damage was higher, that or a larger ammo magazine.
Based on what I have seen MVP isn't exclusively K/D, I believe it also depends on damage blocked and damaged healed since you can get Ace/SVP/MVP without the best K/D.
Rocket solo healer is a pretty good healer because his heal is ranged aoe shots, so you can heal nearly anyone on your team, even through walls if you ricochet right. But its also an extremely aggressive strategy because he has such limited death prevention, even when counting the 46 second cooldown insta rez. Would say the main counter is kill the healer as even if the other team goes GOAT strat, a decent wolverine tears that idea to shreds
Personal mistake I made is not utilizing his passives with wall crawl and hover. They have gotten me out of situations alot when being dived by characters such as Black Panther, Venom and Spiderman. Think Im gonna be playing Rocket for a bit!!
Very helpful video! (also very stressful lmao) Thanks for setting a good example for us. Learning how to play as these characters is very fun. I also just like playing as characters that I personally like, such as a raccoon with a mini gun and jet pack. Gg
I've got 30 hours on Rocket so far - he's my support main for sure since I love high mobility heroes but ... I really wish he had something that could give him some high burst healing temporarily ... feels bad drip feeding healing orbs into tanks and holding RMB for an age... Also the armour packs are an odd choice since you need to hide the B.R.B so it's never in a place to give armour except for the spawn rooms which will get shred away in seconds at the first engagement.
I would just be happy if they lowered the damage boost (or removed it completely) from his ult but also had it also give out some healing. As it stands, Rocket has no "oh crap" button to hit, even his ult doesn't help - or alternatively, if he's range of his own ult, it boosts his healing output. I don't think they could or would give him another healing ability on cooldown though, not without nerfing his existing heal and I'd rather keep his heal as is.
Nice commentary. Personally I like mantis for solo healing. Can’t output as much healing as a raccoon but the damage amp with a dps heavy lineup can go really hard.
Ive just recently got back into comp after taking a break from rivals (its taken over my life I needed to get off) and after 1 game of rank I got off again experimented then tried ranked again but as Rocket. And its amazing so far, I just like being support with him healing my team and reviving them I get like average 1500 per game and its super fun. Idk I guess I just dont want the pressure of kills and deaths on me anymore and now I will just focus on being a healer. No toxic people YET but ill learn to deal with them
Magnito strange work well with rocket, punisher combo. Throwing up shields for the turret like the good 'ol bastion days of ow. Strange making a portal above enemy cap point for the turret is practically and ulti in of itself. It is very fun.
Some friendly advice from an OW GM support and a soon-to-be Rivals GM support. You NEED to rethink your strategy of not firing when heals aren't needed. At 9:14, for example, you're pumping heals into full or nearly full characters when you could be DPSing and pressuring the other team. Healbotting is not going to get you out of the low ranks. You need to be creating as much value as much of the time as possible (I stumbled across this video, and I don't even know your rank, tbh, but I'm assuming metal rank based on the gameplay). If you're spending more early fight DPSing, you'll create more pressure on the other team and reduce the odds your team gets overwhelmed. This is especially important with Rocket, who has great DPS and poor heals. If you are going to healbot, play Jeff; your playstyle fits his character infinitely better.
0:04 Hahahah don't do that in plat and above lobbies. Slowly descending in a straight line front and center in the middle of the enemy line of sight, on chokes nonetheless, is not carrying, is getting farmed
I didn't even watch any "how to's" til this video.. and i play rocket literally the same. Always getting shit on for not giving heals when ive LITERALLY swapped my left click TO BE HEALS and not shooting pebbles. Im always getting 30+ assist a game with 30k heals with 2-3 deaths with a handful of kills, but since im not getting 20+ kills im the shit player lmao. Came here for tips to find out, im not the problem in these matches, im just the punching bag for bad teammates.

Thank you for what you do, I’m sure that’s a exhausting job
You should play luna snow then.shes an insanely fun support/healer character
Does this game work on steam deck? I might be an option for when you are at a truck stop.
mantis and luna snow are gonna be your best friends, thanks for keeping everything moving man
Your job is like the Tank role in this game, everyone needs the role, but no one wants to play it, but everyone is thankful that someone took it.

It seems to be a trend with Rocket players that they end up having tons of assists. I haven't seen that with any other specialist.
