The Holy Monastery of Virgin Mary of Proussos - Elder Ioannikios

High in the mountainous terrain of Evrytania, at an altitude of a thousand metres, the Holy Monastery of Virgin Mary is built, also known as Virgin Mary of Proussos. Established in the area more than a thousand years ago, it is thought to be one of the most historical and significant landmarks in the are and Central Greece in general.
The miraculous icon of the Virgin Mary of Proussos, painted by Apostle Luke, according to tradition, has found refuge in the land, in which it still is located and has become itself a place of refuge during the darkest days of its long-standing history.
