That’s one of the big things that keeps me far away from estate sales. But I’m very happy to clean them up and give them a new life in another collection 🥺 it’s really nice to know their story… but I’m soooo curious about the share bear thing !! Where is she!!

Summer is a good season for washing and drying dozens of bears! I have considered the bathtub method too for large used Pokemon plush. I will follow this to see how cleaning them up goes!
As a child of the 80's, Care Bears was one of my favorite things with Good Luck Bear being my favorite. The original Good Luck Bears all winked. Also the original bears patches are not actually sewn to the bears, the patches were heat pressed. I found this out during a move when Good Luck's belly badge fell off revealing normal plush underneath. He had been washed 2-3 times in my childhood since I was always ill and he never left my side. I'm still trying to figure out how to reattach the badge. It was great to see all the toys from my childhood.
I believe the reasoning behind the UK exclusive cousins was, that they were originally set to be released everywhere but Kenner was bought out not long after this. So they had a brief release in the UK (and Australia??) and then Kenner was bought out. There’s several rare Care Bear items that were set to be mass released because they made appearances in Kenner toy fair mags but because Kenner was bought out before their release those ones stayed as prototypes. So we’re lucky that four of the “UK exclusives” were even released at all. Any Care Bear fanatics please correct me if I’m wrong but that’s always been my understanding
As a kid in the early 80s I remember when they came out. I didn't actually have any of the plush bears but wanted Tenderheart Bear. One year I had Care Bear book covers for my school books. They were so pretty. I believe I also had Valentines. The Kelloggs cereal had stickers. My childhood bestie gave me the kelloggs Care Bear sticker which I put in my sticker book and its still there. But yes loved the colors as a kid.
I purchased a lot of the Care Bear line when I had my first 2 kids (both girls) in 1983 & 1985
The bag is just a kids suit case 😊 I had a strawberry Shortcake one, said the same thing. I guess it's for when your parents send you to grandma's house😉. The mini figs are my absolute favorite. My childhood care Bear is Birthday Bear 🎂 I still have him. I always just put them in a pillow case, tie it closed and wash them in the washer. 🎉

I have red plastic vinyl one that’s 80’s Carebears that’s a little bigger than the one in this video appears. It’s big enough for an overnighter or weekend. I also have all four sizes of the 80’s Cheerbear plush.
51:35 If you take the head off the lighter shaded Good Luck Bear, you’ll find that it’s a magic marker. Those four ones with no eyeballs towards the end are magic markers.
It’s their original color. They’re not faded. Also, some of the “See, Hear, Read” books are in color, while other ones are coloring books. If you are a fan of the artwork on the cover, you’ll love the Carebear Cousins “See, Hear, Read” books called, “Let’s Get to Know the Care Bear COUSINS,” and “A Day in the Forest of Feelings.” All of the illustrations inside are exactly like the cover, done by the same artist as the covers of the other books, Elena, signs each of her illustrations somewhere.
The bear from 2:23 could be from Simba. At the 80s they had a whole range with animals of this type and playsets etc. I don't know if they were sold in the US, but they were very popular in Germany. I loved them when I was a kid, and whenever I see the Sylvanian Families in stores today, I think of them.
The sun catchers might be the kind you pour in the different colored little powered pieces into each of the different little sections of the metal frame and then put them into the oven and the little pieces melt into a kind of glass like plastic. They don’t make those kind of sun catcher kits anymore.
I never had any care bear toys, but I watched re-runs of the 80's show all the time, and loved it. I don't think the 90's toys were very popular, because I didn't know anyone else with them either.

Dang, this brought me back and now I’m concerned I’ll have to dig our childhood ones out of storage. My best memory however will always be my dad’s handstitched Funshine Bear my grandpa made. It was a great day reuniting them. ❤

I would put all the bears in a pillowcase in the washing machine. My dogs stole one from me, it was covered in drool and dirt. It came out of the washing machine and dryer like new. It worked great. ❤️👍

The brown stuff on the Care Bears is from dirt. I recently took down some plush from a shelf that have been then for a few years and they had that on them. I was able to get it off with a wash cloth with water on it.

I really want a Funshine Bear. They were my favorite. My mom threw out all my kids toys when I was 12. 😢 I started collecting again as an adult after I had my son.

That’s a Care Bear goldmine! I have my 80s CB collection still and love them! I had some Cousins but ended up selling them. Sometimes I’m sad I did that, but I’m glad they went somewhere they are loved!
The 1991 Bedtime Bear is from the environmental line! I used to have a Share Bear from that line.
The cousins you're missing are Proud Heart Cat, Loyal Heart Dog, Swift Heart Rabbit, Treat Heart Pig, Playful Heart Monkey, and Noble Heart Horse! Treat Heart and Noble Heart are extremely rare. I'm pretty sure Treat Heart only got a prototype.
I can’t tell you how much I WISH my collections of Disney and LPS and other things ends up in future loving hands one day 😭

Most 80’s stuffed carebears are machine washable, other then the talking Secret Bear. Yea, Bedtime Bear and others have a tongue.

HDISBFUDB TUE MISTARD GAS THING- I did that with a shawl and a ballet barbie from the 70s where I made paracetic acid and it did work really well lol

So amazing! We had the plastic figures as kids. Wishbear and Bedtime. I didn’t know most of the other bears. But, I do remember that the Care Bears came in waves with cousins being near the end. I guess they ran out of ideas for bears?

I collected Care Bears in the 80’s and their heads were not that big. I don’t think they are original releases. I still have tender heart.
On the bright side you can absolutely put them in a pillowcase in washer and fix their hair. ❤.

It Is kinda a funny coincidence that I'm working on a list for the care bears that come out between the first ones and the recent ones that I can't find anything online already listed ... i was so focused on the 2002 ones because it was my childhood ones too that i forgot that existed an 90's release
If you decided to sell any of them I'm interested! I have 3 full sized and 2 small ones so my collection is small. I rarely find them in the wild! To wash them I put them in a garment bag and then in the washer and they do great! I've even put them in the dryer on low. ☺️
That would be so fun to go to! Like a treasure hunt haha!
Also I’ll suggest…
1)de-stuff them
2) soak them in a tub with some dawn
3) get a carpet cleaner vacuum and use that for the spots.
Then dry and use new stuffing. It’s what I do for most of my thrift store

I have a few friends that are picking through the lot right now but if they pass I’ll post cheap lots to make sure the other doubles find nice forever homes!
I do have a Little Green Machine! Im not sure about destuffing, I hope to avoid it if possible since none of them have any seam issues and especially considering there’s like 50 of them… but we’ll assess it as we go. Normally I can just machine wash or spot treat and quarantine so this is new…
