Lindsay, please don't use quotation marks when you say you are a full time author. You are. You got a juicy book deal, kids are reading your books, your advances are the main source of your income. You are a proper full time author. In fact, you are a definition of one.
awh thanks miranda!
Juice book deal will meant Main bread winner.
Whoop I'm part of the 0.4% europe sales :D
I love videos like this, it's so interesting :) Wish you all the best for 2024!
Me too:)!
awh yay! so glad to have you and your european friends here! haha
and best of 2024 to you too!!
omg the scholastic book fair was EVERYTHING to me when i was a kid :') I'm canadian, it's so cool to see that your book was in the fairs and supported over here !! ✨
right! like, best day of school 100%!
And yes the canada's showed up! hahaha
Thanks for talking about all of the possible things to write off your taxes. I work for an accountant so I’m hoping one day he will be doing my author taxes! 😊
oh yeah, that's a great connection to have! haha
I'm always fascinated by the financial info of authors. Thanks for pulling back the curtain a bit for us.
Glad you found it helpful!
I love watching videos like this and pretending that I too have a writing career with payments to manage 😅😅
Seriously though, thanks for this video! It was very insightful and informative. Looking forward to those squishmallow charts in next years video 😄
not the squishmallow charts! XD
so glad you found it helpful!
I'm a new subscriber and loving your videos! As a capricorn who also maths real good, trust me, you are crushing it. Good luck on your 2024 goals, I know classroom visits can be daunting but the kids love them so much. :D
ah so happy to have you, Jennifer!
This is wonderful! Thank you for sharing all of this! Before your video, I just learned what can be written off for taxes for 2022 (I’m a freelance sensitivity/authenticity reader), so I also wrote off my office supplies (my desk is also in my bedroom, lol), air purifier, some books, etc. Really cool that it’s a thing. Thank you for reinforcing this! I love learning stuff like this! 💜
yay! So glad to hear that!
This is all so helpful! Thanks so much for this transparency and demystifying the money side of, erm, authoring ❤ lol
haha of course!
I’m one of those four from the east who bought your book. Haha! I feel special. Sending love from the Philippines.
omg! Thank you so much! haha
Thank you so much for this incredibly informative + fun video! All of your advice on taxes + expenses is super helpful (and how smart to have a card solely for author expenses - if I ever get published I'm stealing that idea!).
haha that's fine! I stole it from Michelle Schusterman anyway!!
I use those same quotation marks when I call myself a full-time author. Its my job but it doesn't pay me full time so yeah!
it's hard not to use them! haha
Ohhh I love that you did like a sales origin breakdown! Ofc I love the entirety of these sorts of videos but it’s cool to see those sorts of stats
Yeah I thought that was really cool too!
Omg!!!! I loved this!!!!!! I loved both books!!!! I can’t wait to see if what this year brings for you!!!!!
thank you! have a great 2024, trisha!!
“I don’t know how to behave around warm bread.” You’re the best 😂
LOL IT'S TRUE
I'm in Canada and have a school aged child which means I can go to the Scholastic book fairs. I was so sad when I didn't see your books at the last winter one, but am hoping they'll be there in the spring one. Gonna add to the Canada pie piece if I can lol
ooh I hope it's there too! Thanks for keeping an eye out!
Great video! Also had this pop in my head "I do it all for the GOATS, all for the goats, yeah..." so, good vibes!
Yes! Thank you!
Just a litter encouraging discouragement: even those of us with "full-time" jobs that isn't authoring still need a partners income to not be homeless 😅.
haha I feel that!
Laughing at the squishmallows bit. 😂
Thanks again for making these very informative videos!!
Also the write off section is soooo fascinating. Furiously taking notes.
right?! I was shocked when I learned how much can be written off!
Okay but I do definitely need to see the Squishmallow expenditure percentage. 😂
NO YOU DON'T T.S.! looooooool XD
Food. Aww what a sweet hubby
he is! haha
On your England trip, were you able to write off any of your spouse’s expenses, or was it your expenses only?
just mine!
What program do you use to do your charts showing percentages?
google sheets!
❤❤❤❤
Don’t feel obliged to answer of course but why would a disability not enable you to work? I only ask cos so many people work from home now and if you can sit at a computer you may find something suitable to go alongside your writing career. Don’t discount yourself, you seem capable of anything.
i cannot sit at a computer :/
