I always thought the opposite game would be cool. Like, you're one of those uninvited squatters and you have to live with someone in their house for as long as possible without being detected. Sneak out to get food and all that.

Oh I was thinking "opposite" as in a game where you have to sneak around in the house moving things, turning on tv's when they aren't in the room and breaking stuff until they go insane. But that's just The Sims games, I joke .> . Though something like the oblivion kill house for the dark brotherhood, but more expansive would be amazing. Hitman comes to mind. More I want more!

I was thinking the opposite game would be that you are the house and you can do things to make your home owners leave.
That's almost the plot of one of the characters in the movie Parasite jeez. It'll be pretty cool though, like you're gonna be seen at first as a paranormal monster or something by the owners of the house but it'll discuss at the end the depressing reality of being poor or something
personally, i like these types of games due to the vhs style. it adds a sense of creepiness on top of the current threat.
Tbh what matter is the design tho the style is just the cherry on the top !

I feel like most horror game that mentions pills at the beginning always winds up that all the scary stuff came about simply because you, or someone else, forgot/mixed up the pills, therefore hallucinations happened.
The unfortunate thing about horror games is when they talk about DID / other dissociative disorders / psychosis but they didn't really do their proper research. I enjoy horror as a genre, but as someone who has depression with psychotic features and DID and has had symptoms their entire life, it's frustrating sometimes to see how people use my disorders and related disorders to tell horror stories that are super inaccurate and stigmatise us further. I used to be in denial about my diagnosis because I used to think of Split and various horror related media whenever I thought about 'multiple personality disorder.'
I know Insym is unaware about this and generally can't control the horror genre, but I wish more people were aware of what the disorder is like. I try to be quite open about my diagnosis, but my family doesn't like me being honest. Unfortunately, sedation doesn't get rid of dissociation or alters. Dopamine antagonists and other medications do help with psychosis, however, which Eric is likely the result of based on what was said. Psychosis is generally characterised by voices outside of one's head, delusions, and hallucinations. Alters are usually inside of one's head instead and generally cannot be seen outside of the body unless psychosis blends with DID.
That being said, Eric doesn't show signs of other hallucinations throughout the game, so it's hard for me to guess what he really has. As someone who has a major interest in psychiatry and has considered a career in its field, especially given my biology major and psychology courses, I can safely say that it would be interesting to see more horror creators actually use the real symptoms of mental illness for a horror game.
The darkest parts of reality are what causes people to have disorders like mine and the general horrors that come with psychosis. To expand upon that would be truly horrifying, or, I like to think so.

I myself have OSDD-1b (among other things, but that's another can of worms) and do not see visions of my alters outside of just in my own head. Like, I have the alter personalities, but I don't suffer blackouts/amnesia the way people with full fledged DID experience them - for me it's almost as if I'm taking a back seat and watching my own story unfold with someone else in control, which is far and few in between when it happens - but it's so upsetting to see stuff like OSDD and DID systems being depicted in media as something that causes you to become violent - where your alter makes "you" commit horrible acts - when it's really not like that at all. My strongest alter (out of my three) actually served as a protector in a lot of ways - being triggered mostly during times of stress only - otherwise they're really just like someone sitting in the background and never coming to front. My ex absolutely broke me with all that they did and said to me to the point they're what caused my most defined/strongest alter to be "born" - but to be honest, if not for that one, I'm not sure I'd be "sane" enough to function on my own.
But again, to the topic of mental illness in games, it's sad and upsetting at times to see it depicted in such ways without proper research - and it happens a lot. In general, there's quite a few mental illnesses that have many overlapping symptoms, so it makes them hard to diagnose and depict properly at times, but it's the subtle differences that help narrow things down - and all it takes is a bit of extra research and diving into people's minds to understand these sorts of things a little better. :/
In sound mind tackled mental health in horror well imo. They actually worked with professionals all through development and listened to them fully. DID isn't in that game however, but overall they do a good job I'd say.

@@KingJunny I have a friend with OSDD-1b, myself. It's intriguing how many systems I have managed to run into, but I blame attending an outpatient, myself. This is an excellent example of OSDD-1B, thank you. I'm sure any singlets reading would be happy to see it!
Personally, the closest I have ever gotten to 'seeing' my alters outside my head was one specific incident as a child, but given how young I was, it's hard to remember if that was accurate or if I simply didn't understand headspace well enough.

It’s basically like Mr. Robot and Moon Knight. The kid had a traumatic experience and in order to protect him from the pain his mind dissociated and created another personality to take the damage. So when he’s Christopher he’s a nice normal kid that doesn’t remember what happened to his dad, but when he’s Eric he’s angry, hateful, and callous
I love the Silent Hill style of horror, although I will criticize the oddity in the ****Spoilers****
Father's suicide note, because he contradicted himself by saying he'd get back to be Christopher's father, and that killing himself as revenge on the mother wouldn't allow him to be be a father to Christopher.
To be fair to the father he's clearly not in a rational state of mind, considering the revenge and method. so it's just a character contradiction, not a game/story contradiction.
