Am I the only one finding it sad that these people had to leave their stuff behind? Especially if there’s kids stuff in there? Who knows why they had to abandon it? Financial troubles are a real bitch these days.
This happens all over the world. So many people lose their items when they can’t pay for the storage. Let this be a lesson, do not ever put important things like a diploma in a storage locker
Tbh I wouldn't intentionally leave important things in a storage unit. Not unless it was like, THE storage unit that I used solely for important things. Also if you're having financial troubles, a storage unit is not something you should be investing in in the first place. I understand things can go sideways pretty quick but if that does happen, you should be able to remember to get anything you care about out before the end of the month.

Some friends of mine owned a motel and storage units, and once or twice a year, they would have storage units that were abandoned, and packed full. They would invite over employees and former employees to come rummage through and take what they want. It was kind of interesting, at times.
I actually work at a storage place and the amount of people that will just pay one month to get cheap junk removal is insane, and the vast majority of the people auctioned off are mean and assholes, speaking from experience, ofc there is the odd family down on their luck but most places give you plenty of chances

Some units would be sad because you would learn why they may have lost the unit. Some units were due to owners ending up incarcerated. One was drug related because there were a lot of little glass brown vials for packaging. Another looked like the owner was caught making fake id's.
I used to do this with my dad when I was younger. We would resale and actually make decent money doing it. It brought back some good memories for me so thanks 💜
