My girlfriend and I in 1970 played this endlessly. I taught her to play guitar from this music, but, man, she could sing! Long, straight hair, miniskirt, knee boots, terrific smile. I wore Fairchilds, T-shirts and Levis, and a scraggly beard. Just a couple of "college hippies". Life was simple, and good. Music was great! It still is.
I learned to sing from Joni and Judy. Studied how to harmonize--one of the two or three real gifts I've had in my life...Played this probably 500 times just after it came out...and after a while harmonized to every note. I helped a friend driving in a snowstorm from NY to DC from being bored by singing several of her albums straight through...Thank you Joni and Judy.
This album helped my find myself in the 80's as I drove through the canyons of Colorado in my Rambler and, listening tonight I am clearly still searching. Greatest hits collections are usually bad anyways so that's not really the best description, more like "this album is better than most artist's greatest album"
Hits should'nt come too close to each other or they will flatten each other out. In my opinon it's better in the context of a well composed album. But it's true the quality of her songs on any given album is greater than most musicians greates hits albums.
JONI MITCHELL - I became interested in Joni's music when I got older. She is truly a beautiful soul who has given the world so much of herself in her stories of her experiences. I find myself lost with her in the places she describes. Thank you Joni for giving me these beautiful experiences.
I totally agree she takes you to where she's singing about, whilst in hospital I would listen on my diskman with headphones and be transported to Morgan Town and the canyon. She makes everything a bit better
This album was produced by David Crosby. That's him, Stephen Stills and Graham Nash singing backup on "Circle Game" -- She was living with Graham Nash in Laurel Canyon at the time this album was made. This album was part of an incredible blossoming of music from that amazing intersection of time, place and people.

It's such a blessing that Joni has decided to release her first albums in this way. I can still clearly remember the first time listening to Ladies of the Canyon and how startled I was to hear her play the piano in such an already very personal way. Last night I watched the documentary Laurel Canyon. It brought back so many memories as well as some tears. I graduated from Burbank High in 1968 and the music scene was very vibrant. Much was centered in Laurel Canyon and the feeling of camaraderie was beautiful. Sadly life's events overtook this. Last week David Crosby, who was a big part of this scene, passed away. However the memories and the legacy live on. Thank you Joni for your gifts and sharing with us with a wealth of wonderfully crafted songs.
This is one of my favorite albums of hers. I wish she would have never stopped making folk. The late 70s & 80s jazz was not her forte. Her folk was prodigious and beyond description.

The Truth that Joni’s Music is Ageless is Proven by the HUGE number of Replies seen here on this page. It is Extra-Ordinary & Most Wonderful how we all express our Love for Joni ❣️
I have always brushed this album off and focused all my attentions to The Hissing of Summer Lawns and Hejira but I sat at my desktop with a good pair of headphones without distractions and I have fallen in love. Whilst nothing tops my admiration for those albums this was truly wonderful and definitely deserves to treated as one of her masterpieces.
Besides the big hits, I really like "For Free" and especially "Rainy Night House" from this album. The latter is even more fantastic on "Miles of Aisles"!
Brings back so many great memories of my youth. I was eleven and just starting to understand what life meant. Thanks for the fantastic music and the fond memories.

Wimbledon, England, 1970. Bought the album,(not for myself but a , last minute birthday present for my younger brother). It was to be my initiation into a life long following the works of Joni.
The second track on this album, For Free, has to be one of the most alluring songs of the entire album. Sometimes I'll get a spontaneous 'ear worm' from this piece and it takes a mighty effort to dislodge it!
To describe the genius of one Joni Mitchell, this album encompasses alot of her life's experiences and she wasn't afraid to write it down and let us all share with her. Besides the fact it is some pretty creative stuff, easy on the ears, and you can understand what she is saying.
Yet another classic album that stands the test of time even 50+ years later. I remember seeing Joni many mornings in a little cafe on the corner of Thompson and Prince in Soho (NYC) in 1986/87. She must have been living in the area at the time, just as I was. She always sat by herself at a little table by the window writing in one journal or another (she usually had more than one). I never interrupted her or asked for her autography even though I wanted to. Our eyes did meet a couple of times, but all I could do was nod in recognition of her pure genius. I remember it vividly because I had just come back from living in Europe and I really hated my job at the time. I was just starting to lean into being a writer and seeing her on those special mornings gave me the reassurance that art and commerce can indeed co-exist. It was partly because of her that I quit that job and eventually moved to southern California, where I often had the pleasure of cruising up and down Laurel and Coldwater Canyon in a zippy little convertible. Shine on Joni Mitchell, Shine on!
I lived close to Topanga Canyon when this came out, so of course I assumed she wrote about that canyon. Played this album non-stop! A magical time for Joni music❤

Hello there Barbry, how are you doing?
Can't wait to hear her new response to regaining her powers after near death and several years of rehabilitaion.
Blessed Be, Dear Creatrix!
The joy of seeing you onstage again, flourishing, victorious after facing the end, again, lifted everyone so high!
So inspired and glad to be on earth in your lifetime, able to hear and see your lively timeless art forms!

My first of many Joni albums, purchased upon its release.. So magical that I wore out the grooves within a yr...
Thank you Joni, for being the soundtrack of my long life!!!
I don't even know what Telegram IS Joni... I'll see if I can find a more tech-savvy assistant! What's the prize anyway?!?
btw, I met you back in the late 80s at your opening of your great art in Laguna Beach; I was a total fanboy, saying something articulate like, "I have always loved your music!" You were quite gracious.
Likewise!
The soundtrack of mý life too

The Truth that Joni’s Music is Ageless is Proven by the HUGE number of Replies seen here on this page. It is Extra-Ordinary & Most Wonderful how we all express our Love for Joni ❣️
Joni wrote the soundtrack for our lives.
I was today years old when I realized after listening to this album for half a century that the first and last tracks use a symmetrical accompaniment.
The first eight studio albums from Seagull to Hejira are all masterpieces imo. An incredible achievement.

Timeless is just an understatement...what a wonderful way to start the day😊
How could you not love this woman...?
I finally pulled out this album after many years in storage and listen to it several times a week along with my other folk music. Still sounds great!😊
Besides the big hits, I really like "For Free" and especially "Rainy Night House" from this album. The latter is even more fantastic on "Miles of Aisles"!
Me too!👍🏻❤️☮️
Each if these 12 songs is among the best ever written.
All. Her. Albums take. Me. Back in. Time.
Brings back so many great memories of my youth. I was eleven and just starting to understand what life meant. Thanks for the fantastic music and the fond memories.
Yes!!!! Joni spoke the truth and so eloquently - her lyrics endure.
Truly a brilliant artist and she will shine forevermore ...

This is absolutely my favorite Joni album. She is a great gift from Canida, and ran with the greats from the 60s on. Thanks Joni, and whom ever put this great Joni Mitchel album on line finally. The album art..? Yes Jomi painted that from her heart and it is ..
Yes, the album Blue is good, but this one is wonderful.
Blue is best! ☺️ (my opinion) This is a close second
@@connieanderson2281 I find it difficult to rank them. : )
Nah Blue is far better. This is also amazing btw
@@afraerika I find it difficult to rank one over the other.

Wimbledon, England, 1970. Bought the album,(not for myself but a , last minute birthday present for my younger brother). It was to be my initiation
into a life long following the works of Joni.
Pure beauty !!
Pure Truth!!

This album is a true folk masterpiece. 12 great songs that touch the heart of every listener
Timeless....Like a diamond.
I really love her work.
I, like many others, loved listening to this album over and over and over again, staring at the beautiful artwork and dreaming 🦋
Joni Mitchell Priceless!
✨✨✨✨✨✨✨✨
Magnifique artiste, une belle âme... elle incarne tant de choses, magiques...
D'accord.
I have followed her since college in St Louis
Extreme talent and unforgettable beauty
The second track on this album, For Free, has to be one of the most alluring songs of the entire album. Sometimes I'll get a spontaneous 'ear worm' from this piece and it takes a mighty effort to dislodge it!
To describe the genius of one Joni Mitchell, this album encompasses alot of her life's experiences and she wasn't afraid to write it down and let us all share with her. Besides the fact it is some pretty creative stuff, easy on the ears, and you can understand what she is saying.
Such joy listening to this album going on train from Paris to Avignon to visit good friends! Joni’s music always a joy to hear.
Gorgeous lyrics/poetry Joni. Not to mention the gorgeous piano. Just love this perfectly artistic album. Wish I owned it. -Adele.
O trabalho da Joni é totalmente envolvente, iluminado, inspirador, e grandioso!
Que espetáculo de artista!
