I pulled my 73 Challenger into a MickeyDs in VA last weekend. Parked next to a 09 Challenger and everybody spilled out into the parking lot to check them out! We parked them nose to nose and people were taken pictures and shaking hands. What a blast! I love the U.S.A. and my classic Challenger!!!
The guy driving the challenger rt is my art teacher !!! He has the car and pictures when the video was being made. He also had a picture of him and the car against the challenger srt8
Matthew H atleast these new challengers are starting to look like the ones from the 70s they're beautiful revisions. much better than the ugly muscle cars from the 00s
Let us all relive those days in the 70's. Most of 70's cars are gone. Have a 2011 and it's terrific and comfortable and reminds me so much of my 70 challenger. Please be positive. We both agree that there is nothing better than a mopar, no matter what the year.
I agree with you 100% there! I remember those old Cragar SS rims as a kid growing up in the '60s and a proper resto just ain't right without those famous Cragars seen so often back in the day! The Cragars can be defined as the "Holy Grail" of rims back in those days-the days when rims were called just that--"Mags"! When was the last time someone heard that word lately-"Mags"? Those days indeed will always be remembered as "The good 'ol days" of muscle cars and Hot Rods! : )
For me it screams RESIDENT EVIL because in part 7 that was Ethan Winters’ car, it makes fighting Jack in the garage of the Baker House easier, and in part 3 Jill Valentine drove an orange one into Nemesis and than drove it off the top level of a parking garage with Nemesis still hanging onto the grill.
OK, let's talk Mopar... I was a Ford Mustang man until about 1975. I purchased a used 71 Dodge Demon off a used car lot. 340 with a thermoquad carb and a set of Hooker headers. and 727 torque~flight tranny. The car was a street killer. I put away many 454s, 427s, 396s, and even 383s and 440s. I didn't have the car long enough to find any or all the tricks that made this 12:04 et car a beast. Back in 75 a 12 second street car was a real killer. I did demolish it by the end of the year street racing. Never knew if that 340 was a freak running engine or what. I later purchased a 71 Duster 340, but with a smaller Carter 4 bbl. I did some tweaking and later slapped an Edelbrock manifold and a thermoquad carb on it. It was also a street beast, but not like the 71 Demon. As a Ford man I can say Mopar had the power!!!
Ford should’ve put their 4 barrel 351 Cleveland in their Maverick. It would’ve been the perfect competition against the Dart and Duster 340’s and even Chevrolet’s Nova SS
True, good catch, and it was a '69 Camaro they wrecked, not a '68. Had to review the old movie last night. Besides, I should've remembered because the Challenger I had back in the 80's had a 440 in it. At one time I had several Mopars. Should have kept them all!
great job on the driverside mirror anb delete on the passenger side. many replicas forget that detail. Also the mirror was fro the 68' camaro that they destroyed at the end. The shape of it was easier for filming reverse shots. Great job thanks for the "acurate" memories.
The best scene in the movie was in the beginning when the police helicopter is fly beside the Challenger and Kowalski downshifts his Hurst pistol gripe shifter into 3rd gear and out runs the copter. The sound of the 440's AFB carborator howling is one of the best sounds in the world. The best in my opinion is the sound of a Rolls Royce British Spitfire passing over head. Now there is a sound.
The original Challenger appears much more sleek and trim than the new one. They had to build the new Challenger around the same chassis as the 300 and Charger, forcing it to conform to the high fire wall and tall frame. The original Challenger was its own car, shared underpinnings only with the Cuda.
I saw this great film on a double-feature with "Butch Cassidy and the Sundance Kid". And the first time I saw breasts on film! But the car, the car... oooh. Fast forward to 1976, when I bought my first car, a '71 Challenger R/T. Bright yellow with the stripes on the side. Probably not the kind of car my Mom wanted in the driveway - though my dear Dad never said a word. Maybe he was envious. :)
My Dad rented me one of these Challenger 440R/Ts for a week when I reached driving age, as a birthday gift. Purple metal flake. I didn't sleep much that week, my friends and I cruised the blvd... a lot!
I think that Challenger 70's is the best muscle car ever, I love this movie and I have a dream to visit America at least once in my life and see this miracle in person, and if I ever ride it, it will be something unreal. Hello in the U.S. from Ukraine!
221, 260, 289, 302, 351 Windsor. All Small Blocks. Love my 65 Ford Falcon sprint, with four on the floor. Back in the day. New Project is 72 Charger sitting next to the house waiting. Fun, Fun, Fun.
precioso este challenger r/t del 70, la esencia muscle car, jamas la podran igualar con nunguno nuevo!! impresionante el sonido de ese 440 magnum, espero poder llegar a tener algun dia uno asi, saludos
I dig the 09 R/T with the 5.7 Hemi. To me it seems like the perfect muscle car for today. Not crazy bad on gas millage yet powerful and it can break and handle! Also it is at least 15 grand less than any European car with the same type of power. I can see your point about the Charger, man were they cool in the 70's as 2 doors or what? I think the Challenger is headed in a nice direction. I am going to most likely pick one up. (gotta drive it of course)
So right, I remember some of the cars I had, forget A/C & GPS what about no power steering, no power brakes, taxicab interior, all to save power, weight and money of course. My first car didn't even come with a radio from the factory. But you definitely felt connected to the road probably more than you wanted to be.
The engine in the Bullitt mustang was a 390. Which is a big block and the smaller variety of the 428. the 302 is a small block and on the same block as the 289. There was a Windsor and the preferred 351 Cleavland variety. The sound of the VP Challenger sounded identical to that of my '69 Dodge 440 RT Charger. It is a big deep moan of a big cube motor and not the high pitched snarl of a small block. My souped 318 had that high pitched sound. The 390 Ford sounded in between.
That is a beautiful one and again, it is just one of a couple that were around. I was thinking internationally by previously mentioning today's cars and on the other side of that you had: the original VW Golf, original Toyota Corolla, Holden HX , original Honda Civic, Izuzu Gemini, and many BMW's in the 60's. Some Jags, Beemers, Benz's, and Ferrari/Lambos were obviously cool between the 60-80's but still, they're a severe minority of what was mostly available at the time.
I have a 91 Camaro and a 1969 Charger I'm rebuilding, so I'm set, but I will admit Vanishing point was one bad ass movie and the 1970 Challenger truely is a piece of history worth having, hell I saw a purple one with a 528 Hemi blow out a Lamborgini Countasch
His Mustang did not have the 428, it was the 390 I believe and was only rated at 300HP or so. They tested it and the 0-60 was 7.5 and that was the actual car used for the film.
Love em both...So happy to own a 2009 and loved my 1970. Of the two there is no question the 2009 is far better in almost all aspects but COOL...no ride ever is or was as cool as the 70 Chally....
So true. I went stopped by a dealer one day, the 25 year old salesmen made the mistake of asking what I was looking for, so I told him "a full sized, man's car" so he led me to a Buick Lucerne and said "this is a great car." I said, "no, not a compact car, a full sized car." He said, "this IS a full sized car." I went home, got my worn out 1972 Imperial, limped it to his lot, and said -- "one of these, just newer." The kid was totally befuzzled, he had never seen a car like that before.
It looked clear as you can get a movie for the 70's, And it came with alot of Extras like the US and UK version the trailer and a load of commentary. im lucky as it was the only copy there.
wow the new one looks so much better on the outside. The old one starts out low and cool in the front but by the time you get to the back its as high as an SUV! The new one is awesome.
With the 68's I loved the fact all the lights were round and lit. 69's were for all the people who like the 68 and did'nt buy in time. We all have a favorite.
I don't remember exactly, but the 440 Magnum had different outputs, according the car it was installed on, for example in a 1969 Dodge Coronet SuperBee, the 440 put out 390 hp and 390 pound-feet torque, but that was with the six-pack (three two-barrel, Holley? carburetors) I think, though I'm not sure, the main difference was the size of the engine, I think the 440 although bigger in displacement was smaller in crate size in comparison with the 426 Hemi.
When i saw this car @ the Auto Show in NYC i knew right away what it was without even looking at the name plate, but as the narrorator said, the old is still better.
Now don't get me wrong, I LOVE the new Challenger. But for substantially less than the price of the new one, I could just find an old project Challenger, restore or resto-mod it doing the work myself, and have a car that not only has more soul and character but also gives me more pride of ownership knowing I built it and put it on the road.
@dalotel You're so lucky to have driven those cars. I wish I could just have the opportunity to drive a classic Challenger and don't even talk about owning one; I'd probably sleep in it for the first week. Lol. I'm a true MOPAR man. I currently own a new gen Charger and will b trading it for a Challenger shortly.
I like the 70's stance much more than any other modern or lowered stance I have seen on a muscle car.
Alexis Hernandez That’s the coolest art teacher on this world!
The old one beats the new one hands down for looks. It's beautiful.
+Matthew H , but does your old one have a Hellcat package?
Pax Humana 😂😂
Matthew H atleast these new challengers are starting to look like the ones from the 70s they're beautiful revisions. much better than the ugly muscle cars from the 00s
Let us all relive those days in the 70's. Most of 70's cars are gone. Have a 2011 and it's terrific and comfortable and reminds me so much of my 70 challenger. Please be positive. We both agree that there is nothing better than a mopar, no matter what the year.
Matthew. I agree. I own both cars, one of each. Looks--- 1970 chrome and all.
That was a great movie!! I was only 12 when I saw it at the theater, naked lady on a honda in the desert and everything!! ;-)
Old Challenger will never die!!
Remember that vanishing point commercial when I was 14 everybody wanted to see that movie
I lived that era...saw it at a drive in theater. Surpurb classic movie!!!
When was the last time someone heard that word lately-"Mags"? the bolnde on the bike that seen sticks in my mind
Brilliant tribute to one of my all-time favourite films and cars!
Oh, and massive envy here! ;D
That old muscle screams "Badass!"
That was the ultimate movie!
Charlie, it also screams " sleeper" really cool car ,
For me it screams RESIDENT EVIL because in part 7 that was Ethan Winters’ car, it makes fighting Jack in the garage of the Baker House easier, and in part 3 Jill Valentine drove an orange one into Nemesis and than drove it off the top level of a parking garage with Nemesis still hanging onto the grill.
BTW, what a great movie "Vanishing Point" was. Clevon Little as "Super Soul" made the movie.
that was the best damn movie ever filmed to this day hands down number one awesome brother
OK, let's talk Mopar... I was a Ford Mustang man until about 1975. Ford should’ve put their 4 barrel 351 Cleveland in their Maverick. It would’ve been the perfect competition against the Dart and Duster 340’s and even Chevrolet’s Nova SS
you look at them rev and the old dodge is shaking around from all the power driving it.
You are totally and utterly correct my friend :)
True, good catch, and it was a '69 Camaro they wrecked, not a '68. Had to review the old movie last night. Besides, I should've remembered because the Challenger I had back in the 80's had a 440 in it. At one time I had several Mopars. Should have kept them all!
Like the old man once said "they just don't build them like they used to"
amen buddy
great job on the driverside mirror anb delete on the passenger side. many replicas forget that detail. Also the mirror was fro the 68' camaro that they destroyed at the end. The shape of it was easier for filming reverse shots. Great job thanks for the "acurate" memories.
These cars are like what my older brothers and there friends drove. They where a part of there generations and the future of America.
Hello
You see this movie?
Hello Lucy you home.
+Kevin Klink Yes back then I was 20 years old The movie is just one crazy chase a bit like Thelma and Louise without the guns
when i was in high school i drove a 1969 charger ,back in the 80's .. good old days
love the car and loved that movie ...keep the videos coming
Two words summed this beast up beautifully... "RAW" "INTIMIDATING".
Old cars are beautiful. I love this 1970 Challenger:)
Yeah, the older one seems to be wider as well.. Still nothing beats a "1970 Dodge Challenger white in color"
The original Challenger appears much more sleek and trim than the new one. They had to build the new Challenger around the same chassis as the 300 and Charger, forcing it to conform to the high fire wall and tall frame. The original Challenger was its own car, shared underpinnings only with the Cuda.
my brother took me to the drive-in to see that movie when it came out...I was 9.....loved mopars ever since...and blondes too!!!! ;)
How much this BEAUTY?!?!?!!? I absolutely want one!!!!!!
This IS my favorite car.
Also, the movie kicked some ass.
Who would have guessed that a guy of Polish origin would be America's driving icon?
There wasn't a Hemi in the old challenger they showcased, it was a standard piston head 440
+Stephen Goodman , your dad probably smiled when he saw you with that car. Are your parents still married?
My Dad rented me one of these Challenger 440R/Ts for a week when I reached driving age, as a birthday gift. Purple metal flake. I didn't sleep much that week, my friends and I cruised the blvd... a lot!
I think that Challenger 70's is the best muscle car ever, I love this movie and I have a dream to visit America at least once in my life and see this miracle in person, and if I ever ride it, it will be something unreal. Hello in the U.S. from Ukraine!
1971 challenger is the best car in the world
More B-Rex ONLY a HEMI CAR
Bullitt,Two Lane BlackTop,Vanishing Point and Dirty Mary and Crazy Larry.
1968 to 1971.Greatest time for cars and Greatest Car movies of all time.
PURE BEAUTY AND POWER!
old school all the way!!
Had a friend in high school... who had a 1971 Challenger RT / 383 magnum....and it was bad ass.....fast!
@summitdrinker
Original movie used four 440 Magnums with single carb and a 383 auto, no Hemis.
god listen to that magnum motor purr. You surely could not beat the dodge scat pack of the early 70's
221, 260, 289, 302, 351 Windsor. All Small Blocks. Love my 65 Ford Falcon sprint, with four on the floor. Back in the day. New Project is 72 Charger sitting next to the house waiting. Fun, Fun, Fun.
I've got the original movie on DVD, I just want to find the remake that was done in the 80's now.
Goddam!! Was it 38 year ago I went to the cinema to see that film????? Way to go Kowalski!!!!!!!!!!!!!
vanishing point was awesome
Brother, you are soooooo right on both counts!
I have the remake on VHS lol and the original on DVD and VHS.
Vanishing Point, the best movie EVER.
I love this movie. I saw it when it was first released and havent seen it since. Nadine
Glad the New Challengers were Such Fateful Updates to the original, Unlike the Charger
So true. These old muscles are pure power! No computers and shit, just raw fucking power. I love it!
Here you go, go have fun with this nice Dodge. Oh yes...lots of fun.
precioso este challenger r/t del 70, la esencia muscle car, jamas la podran igualar con nunguno nuevo!! impresionante el sonido de ese 440 magnum, espero poder llegar a tener algun dia uno asi, saludos

I drive mine the same way. Nice video. Thanks.
vanishing point is so badass.
both new and old challenger is a beautiful car!!
Excelente homenagem a um grande clássico!
So right, I remember some of the cars I had, forget A/C & GPS what about no power steering, no power brakes, taxicab interior, all to save power, weight and money of course. My first car didn't even come with a radio from the factory. But you definitely felt connected to the road probably more than you wanted to be.
Great!!! What a beautiful machine!
Wow, hate to post twice in a row but I am jealous! That car will be a classic fast! Absolutely beautiful. Props. (the 300C SRT-8)
Wow, you just made me want a 70 Challenger!
The engine in the Bullitt mustang was a 390. Which is a big block and the smaller variety of the 428. the 302 is a small block and on the same block as the 289. Great movie & bad ass car.....New ones are nice too

Fantastic video! I want both cars
Old or New Dodge Challenger!!! OA5599 is the LIVING LEGEND
@summitdrinker The Hemi WAS available as a $1228 option, including the required heavy duty equipment, under the r/t trim in 1970
His Mustang did not have the 428, it was the 390 I believe and was only rated at 300HP or so. They tested it and the 0-60 was 7.5 and that was the actual car used for the film.
this was a great movie

I actually found one in a field in kansas
So true. I have a 70 and a 71 challenger both are 440s . Thinking about painting the 70 white like the one in vanishing point
It looked clear as you can get a movie for the 70's, And it came with alot of Extras like the US and UK version the trailer and a load of commentary. im lucky as it was the only copy there.
Nice redo! Mopar or no car.👍🙏😎❤️🇺🇸
AWESOME Video! I have a 73, 340 4-barrel, It's not Kawalski, but i"m a happy guy!! Thanks for your knowledge pablof59!
yeah, the film stock and only looks SO good, some people probably expect an old movie to look new with BlueRay
i'd like to get a player sometime
wow the new one looks so much better on the outside. The old one starts out low and cool in the front but by the time you get to the back its as high as an SUV! The new one is awesome.
Awesome car I just want one sitting in my driveway!!
With the 68's I loved the fact all the lights were round and lit. 69's were for all the people who like the 68 and did'nt buy in time. We all have a favorite.
68???? 69???? dumbass read a book once in a while
I don't remember exactly, but the 440 Magnum had different outputs, according the car it was installed on, for example in a 1969 Dodge Coronet SuperBee, the 440 put out 390 hp and 390 pound-feet torque, but that was with the six-pack (three two-barrel, Holley? carburetors) I think, though I'm not sure, the main difference was the size of the engine, I think the 440 although bigger in displacement was smaller in crate size in comparison with the 426 Hemi.
Correct now a down shifter on a power stoke transmission and stock rearend
Medjeed86, the 440 magnum had a 375hp in '68, in '69, it was upgraded to 390hp, with three two barrel carbs
Guys you need to reupload this in HD please!!
Cool car and why hasn't anyone posted this movie on youtube yet??? I can't find it anywhere...:-((!!
Those classic Dodges are the shit!!
Right words, agree with you
New Challenger is a very nice modern homage to the old, but still doesn't really capture its essence. I strongly prefer the old Challenger.
Josh Sheets , you first, shithead, and thank you for telling me what you are in real life.
@dalotel
You're so lucky to have driven those cars. I wish I could just have the opportunity to drive a classic Challenger and don't even talk about owning one; I'd probably sleep in it for the first week. Lol. I'm a true MOPAR man. I currently own a new gen Charger and will b trading it for a Challenger shortly.
Great, well done video !!
This vid is 10 years old now. Wow
its natural mate. classic muscle. nothing better! but that new one still looks very similar! i love it!
I am from England but have always loved the old American muscle cars, that challenger is awesome.
Much prefer it to the new one.
68's ROCK look at the lights.
i love these cars
como se llama la pelicula que aparece al inicio del video ????
