Loremasters have developed new techniques to crack the mysteries of Elden Ring
@@andrewhoff8782palaeontology is correct
It's such a horrific piece of worldbuilding that such a kind and beautiful man was warped into this abomination, not only that, but this mockery of his corpse is being repeatedly replicated all over the Lands Between.
The big kicker, the ending where you marry the person who did that is the most popular one. At least on the PC version.
@blizzardgaming7070 this shit makes me nauseated. Hate Ranni.
@blizzardgaming7070 Based.
it is the cancerous multiplication of the self which gets me.
imagine yourself growing everywhere. This is truely horrific
It’s his cosmic vengeance, you may usurp my throne but at what cost? I shall spread a plague amongst the lands, bring death and ruin to all.
Idea:
Considering the Godwyn corpses are called “cadaver surrogates”, it kind of makes sense that they would grow into a pseudo-basilisk form. Basilisks are essentially vectors for deathblight, so one of those surrogates growing into a basilisk dinosaur could be the next evolution of that.
THIS
Kind of like that one giant Basilisk in Aldia’s keep in DS2
@@Mok3yMokEyew trash souls 2.
Such an interesting combination to watch one of the most unsettling mysteries in Elden Ring being reconstructed while slow jazz plays in the background
Ikr. Very unique experience. And Im here for it.
Would've been cool to have gotten one of these instead of 10 Ulcerated Tree Spirits
"Godwyn Avatar"
The things is that the thing of Godwyn is being a cancer that silently infects everything
Iirc FromSoft hasn't said anything about only doing 1 DLC for Elden Ring. Hopefully we'll see this creature as a boss fight in the future.
@Supercohboy maybe nightreign will do something with this
@@Supercohboywell you are remembering that incorrectly then because Miyazaki and other employees have stated repeadetly that they are done with the Main Elden Ring Gam3 and that there wont be any more DLC. Tbf that might change in the future, but thats the official position of the Studio right now.
I imagine if it ever actually crawled it would do so backwards; crawling on its back, with its face up.
That would explain why we always see it with its face up, and would add quite a bit to the creepiness of it.
Sorta like the mimics in DS2 and how they're bent over backwards as well?
@@thatgamingkiwi1630 Pretty much, yes. Not the first time FromSoft has done something like that.
That would make a lot of sense. I thought that maybe the upside-down face situation was inspired by manta rays, since Godwyn is strongly connected to fish/oceanic stuff aesthetically, but I don't think that lines up as well as what you're suggesting.
I think his head is upside down cause to me it seems the corpse in deep root depths has had the had ripped off and twisted sideways.
@@callenroeder3784 I guess the point I was trying to make was that the quadruped Godwyns (the ones not in deep root depths) are always found laying on their backs, not so much that their head was twisted or backwards.
The twisted head thing on OG Godwyn is just an unrelated creepy detail, to me.
This is fascinating because it ties everything we know related to Deathblight together. The basilisk-like physique is self-explanatory, and the tentacle mouth also could tie Godwyn back to the Wormfaces, which at the moment are completely separate from pretty much everything so far outside of them spewing Deathblight. This is a wonderful display of how everything ties back to Godwyn. Phenomenal work!
I gigantic basilisk... Although obvious as it start taking shape, I'll admit didn't see that one coming, cool stuff.
would make sense, considering basilisks are found extensively in deeproot depths and inflict deathblight. godwyn's little goons
This actually proves that the devs made a complete "master" model for him first, then made copy's with removed parts depending on what was/wasn't important for each inatance
Tbf I would be insanely pissed if my beautiful son got turned into this weird baby-proportioned basilisk creature.
This is insane. A giant basilisk is wild. Didn’t expect that but it makes sense. Honestly reminds me of the Bloodborne DLC before the Hamlet.
He reminded me of Bloodborne's Brain Suckers with that tentacle attack!!! 😖😖😖
It's even more unsettling here, it feels so wrong... He's dead, he isn't supposed to be moving...
Godwyn got done so dirty. By all accounts he was a decent demigod so much so even his enemies respected him
Vermin like to take advantage of and backstab the Good.
Which is one of the reasons why I'll never be a Ranni simp. She's solely resonsible for what happened to him.
@@EGeorgevbased

It's not just mindlessly copying parts of his body in a macabre but ultimately controllable weed infestation kind of way- It's constructing full complete bodies, all over.
In a few years the lands between is going to have a severe godwyn monster problem on top of everything else.
Goldwyn’s body is kinda like a tree. Alive, but not really “alive” like a person or animal anymore.
Sure, but blue doll's simps are leaving Lands Between, because they are wanted to free the world if interference of outer gods (expect moon, yes)
And now free people without Greater Will must face the horrors of the Godwyn, while Ranni and her Lord Simp rides the stars. Nice.
You know, when you put it that way... Yeah, I'm starting to think the Frenzy Flame loons might have the right idea.
@@Umbra_Ursus Frenzy just another emotional manipulation.
Think Tarnished, think. Lands between are broken as Elden Ring, but we can mend it again and restore the order. Order without Mercy are cruel and causes repression and distinguishes, Mercy without Order is pure fickle. Remember words if Muriel the Based. I think he and Golden Mask can be a good friends xd
@@vestige1671 even not the animal, more like pure power and twisted force of more twisted nature, which are has no emotions and feelings. There are only Deathblight, no more no less. This THING are scarier than any other Outer God or being.
I can just feel the deathblight build up
This is kinda what I was hoping to see in the DLC. Godwin becoming animated by whatever the deathblight is
This is the kind of portfolio work that seems as if it very well could land you a job at some major studios! I'm thoroughly impressed.
why would you suggest something so horrible
@@ennayanne regardless of intent to join a studio (working conditions what they are rumored to be), these companies still often require high levels of skill and demonstrated experience with personal projects such as this. It is impressive, to have recreated the model to some degree of accuracy and quality, and then to have also rigged and modeled it?
This deserves thousands of views. I will try my best to spread it around ^_^
Please do! And thanks for the kind words!
Wow, that was a LOT of work, amazing! Like watching a restoration video of an ancient monument
I personally didn't imagine it to have a lower jaw. Have you seen those fish that are commonly bought to control the cleanliness of fish tanks? The ones that sucker onto the glass with their mouths? That's what I imagined when seeing these things, considering the themes of aquatic creatures and the origin of the Death blight being the original body 'leeching' off the Erdtree's roots.
Edit: But dang, if your clam-like attack animation doesn't look good!
Well the problem with that is that Godwyn’s “true” corpse has a clamshell mouth with two parts
This is amazing work, thanks for doing this. I never realized that Godwyn's arms look _exactly_ like Basilisk arms, that's huge!!
It never even occurred to me that this creature was laying on its back. This completely changes the context of that location for me.
This is so insanely cool. I can't even imagine how much work all of this was. Thank you so much for doing this!
Ah yes, time to peep the horror. Incredible job on the restoration!
You appeared out of nowhere and just casually dropped one of the highest effort Elden Ring cut content restoration videos. Instant subscribe.
Also, the way you animated the head reminds me of a venus trap. Nice touch.
the top-of-head mouth tentacle attack is an incredible bit of speculation… it just feels so right for a fromsoft game. based on the head orientation, have you considered rigging it so that it walks “upside down” (on hands and feet but belly-up since the head is “backwards”)?
the mouth tentacle attack is also rememiscent of the wormfaces, another death blight creature just like basilisks!
So you mean like the mimmicks in ds2?
This is the craziest restoration of a cut npc I’ve ever seen. I always thought the Godwyn corpse was meant to be the boss and the stormveil secret was meant to be a prop. Interesting to see it’s actually the inverse.
It would have been pretty freaky to see Godwyn’s body for the first time and then get jumped by a different Godwyn.
EDIT: If the Stormveil model has bones and was built for deforms it was 100% meant to be an NPC at some point. Just because the entirety of the model, params, and AI aren't found/known doesn't mean it wasn't a cut NPC. Seeing as to how the model isn't in game in its entirety and doesn't have params it probably is just an early art asset that they decided was worth using.
It's not a cut npc
bro what are you saying, Godwyn was never a cut npc nor a cut boss.
It's not, none of its assets use the npc id format that from does as part of their planning/orgizination stage of a games development
My theory id that this is not Godwyn. Instead, this is a monster made by Godwyn influence.
But we have so little information is it hard to tell.
Hypothetically if it was an NPC what would you have even done with it? Maybe if covenants were a thing it'd be the obligatory tucked away secret covenant like the ancient dragon covenant in DS1. Alternatively maybe it would've had some quest tied to it or an ending?
I remember in a Zullie the Witch video on a cut NPC that was more than likely a intended to be boss called the "Umibozu" which in Japanese folklore was an aquatic creature. Although the model and myth is a black humanoid, maybe the models used for Godwyns corpse could have been an iteration of it earlier in development?
Good connection, a gigantic merman-like creature would definitely fit as a design for an Umibozu boss
Nah that was totally what I was thinking as soon as I saw this, also pretty sure that black humanoid was just a placeholder that zullie whipped up for the video as I remember her talking about the id having no model, so this could actually be real.
@@fabiformfinch4684
she made it look like that because that's what a umibozu looks like
earlier versions of the game had drawings of sea monsters on the world map as placeholders, which were taken from real books. one of them looks very very similar to godwyn's appearance
I think you’re onto something
Did you recreate the animations yourself as well as the model bits? If so they're fantastic!
Thanks! Yes, the animations are just something I created from scratch (we sadly have no animation data from the game we could reference).
I'd hate fighting with that giant taco basilisk but the restoration of it is purely mind blowing, thanks!
Those two fins (at 2:44) should be at the end of his "fish" tail, exactly like the other model's (at 4:01)...
Oh yeah, that makes a lot of sense!
This is excellent! Godwyn and everything surrounding him is my absolute favorite part of Elden Ring and I was upset he never had a larger role in the DLC, so seeing something like this kinda fulfills my wish lol.
Certainly did find it interesting! Deathblight is one thing, but if one of those extra corpses suddenly started to move and struggle out of the ground I'd be downright terrified...
One of the best fan contents I've ever seen
Ranni did Godwyn dirty, people who simp her always forget this tiny little detail.
Insane amount of effort, love the attack animation especially.
I honestly think that "Godwyn the boss fight" would have had a longer, fishy tail similar to his appearance in the Deeproots. There's no evidence of that in the UV maps though, but a tail would seemingly "balance out" the creature's mass a little more too. Maybe Godwyn's coming in future DLC and we'll get some more answers? I hope he has a tail that we get to chop off, FromSoft hasn't given us one of those kinds of bosses in a while!
Awesome video, it was very cool to see the completed body of Godwyn after getting so many teases of the character throughout the Lands Between!
it's just... so peak
Reverse engineering leaves me in amazement from time to time, and this sure is one of those times!
I hope you've got more content cooking. I've seen people free-cam are Godwyn, but no one has recreated him before now.
OK, so imagine this: “ you’re approaching the head of Godwyn in stormveil Castle, and you get close to the mouth you stop just short of it and suddenly you see the tendrils sticking out of it begin to twitch while darkness starts leaking from the eye holes before a massive slimy arm breaks out of the wall and it begins freeing itself from the rubble that it’s broken through, at this point, all you can do is run to try and escape it to the other side of the now collapsing ruins just beneath stormveil out of a hole on the other side of the path that is opened up due to the turbulence.” I think that would make for a pretty chilling and adrenaline rushing experience in game, you approach it as usual, expecting nothing to happen when all of a sudden this massive putrid thing just wakes up and starts chasing you.
Personally, I think it would be more terrifying if it had more death root tendrils sticking out of different parts of its body like worms or maggots borrowing out of a corpse, And with no lower legs and more elongated body kind of like it mix between an eel and a fish for its lower body.
So the Basilisks are just tiny Godwyn’s.
I’ve always said that the eyes on them are used by Godwyn to see
Wow 😮 that is incredible work you've done to bring this creature to life! Love seeing the process of your investigation and how you animated him and gave suggestions of how he might behave! Well done!! 🙌👏👏👏👏
This is so cool! Have to like this video, this is such fun work to see restored!
Wow, exceptionally unsettling.
Very well done putting the pieces together.
Love that cute fella!
Though it breaks my heart seeing him like that. The sweet lordling indeed deserved better...
This is amazing! Ever since I saw the textures for inside his clamhead in that blog post, Ive really wanted to see something like this. I didnt know he also pulled from the tentacles at Stormveil as well; unexpected but really cool. I'm still disappointed we didnt get to fight this abomination 💔
Amazing job mate!
Was once a handsome man turned into an unknown horror from the deep sea, poor godwyn, betrayed by 4 handed witch
THIS IS THE FIRST VIDEO ON THE CHANNEL?!?!
Congrats on starting this journey! Hope the very best for you!
actually so freaking cool wtf
The resemblence between this and the bassalisks is uncanny
Show Zulie this.
bet she'd love it.
I did contact Zullie over at X/Twitter yesterday - let's see if we get a response!
Miyazaki’s fumble of a lifetime. Everyone wanted to see more Godwyn, and bro thought it was a good idea to just ignore that.
They did my boy dirty 😭
This is so impressive. I love this type of stuff still exist
This is just amazing, please make more content like this! maybe even bayle and placidusax on their prime
This really needs more eyes on it, incredible work.
We were robbed of a potentially really cool fight, also ... nice game archeology work right there 👏
It does make you think, was the Godwyn carcase in the castle meant to be a secret boss?
I've come to the conclusion that with how Godwyn's appearance is with the fish tail, the webbing on his hands and the fins around his arms, he might be turning into a Basilisk. The basilisks throughout the Land's Between all look amphibious with having the same webbing and fins. I thnk Godwyn's corpse was slowly turning into a giant basilisk and i think it's how all the other basilisks in the Land's Between came to be because they all have the same death eyes as Godwyn and they all spew deathblight and deathblight began with Godwyn. As for his head, idk why it's shaped like a clam the way it is. Mabye it has something to do with the crucible because most life that existts in the Land's Between was derived from and began with the crucible.
Would've been pretty cool to fight Godwyn in this form where most of his attacks are ranged deathblight attacks with a few arm slams and swipes, but then once his health depletes and 2nd phase begins, in a cutscene he transforms the environment and world around him to be similar to the abyss and transforms himself into his ideal prime form, and he fights us using death imbued lightning attacks and attacking us with a sword completely made of deathblight and lightning while also using a couple of dragon communion spells from Fortissax like his red lightning glaive and red lightning spears 🔥. After defeating him we'd get his remembrance "Remembrance Of The Death Prince" and we could have the option of getting Godwyn's Deathblight Lightning Spear spell or his lightning sword imbued with deathblight 🔥.
Despite Malenia or Radahn being the most powerful demigods to exist, i think Godwyn was just as powerful. To have felled many ancient dragons and even befriend one of them and a powerful one at that, that takes some serious prowess and skill to do👌🏽. If Godwyn was ever a boss, we would all definitely have trouble fighting him cuz each of his attacks would not only be devastating cuz it's lightning, but each time we would get hit, our deathblight would go up more and more like how any other affinity would, and deathblight is the only affinity that you don't want to let proc otherwise it's an instant death and it's back to the beginning of the fight. The torture of dying repeatedly to a boss like that non stop would make me go mad lol
my instincts say the head is on wrong, but it's fromsoft, so honestly who knows, i just feel like the mouth shouldn't be pointed skyward
I don't think it's supposed to be a mouth, was a little confused why it was shown as one here.
On the corpse, hair is coming out of the top flared bit. And the nose is backwards I think because Godwyn looks to be turning into an aquatic creature, and the nose is migrating up like a whale.
@@hughstout9951 that makes sense, i only figured mouth because of where the nose was honestly. still think it could be different, but im not pressed
The ??? fins at 2:43 looks like halves of the main body Godwyn's tail fin at 4:00. It's not 1:1 though, so maybe it was supoosed to be incorporated into the four-legged creature's tail somehow.
Absolute Cinema
absolutely fantastic research, i loved seeing this creature stand and attack in you interpretation! Also, the fins that you marked as ??? at 2:44 look like fins at the tip of OG Godwyn's tail at 4:01
Awesome video, thanks for doing this!
I had no idea the “mouth” actually had an opening like that. I can imagine him moving like the spider-walking scene in The Excorcist, since his would be tilted back to an “upright” position and would be so inhuman and unsettling.
Godwyn never ceases to freak me out. I feel like I can smell him through the screen…ugh
someone else has brought it up but i don't think it being on al fours is correct, from how the head is positioned on its body i think it would look better if it crawled on its back and stayed on the horizontal, maybe standing tall for a second phase lil a magma wyrm?
Unbelievable. incredible work.
You have to remember that the body at the bottom of stormveil is lying on its front, with its “chin” on the floor if it were to have a normal human head. Keeping this in mind, I think the reconstruction would be more accurate if you flipped the head and then lowered it so that the mouth was on the bottom of the head
I love you sir, always wanted to see The Boy aliven't and in movement, you have made a dream come true .
Amazing work my dude
I would’ve really liked a fight against the Twisted Merman Godwyn at the roots of the Erdtree, but this will do
😮 great job on restoring it!
did....did i just see bro make a possible boss from scratch?
Huh. As bits and pieces, he looks like some long forgotten, accursed *thing,* that was never meant to be seen by human eyes. Fully put together, Godwyn looks like some Lovecraft terror, that's gonna start chanting something in black speech.
Although the stubby baby legs are hilarious. Wasn't expecting that, figured him to be a mermaid.
There's mostly cut files for an enemy referred to internally as "umibozu" and I have always believed that said enemy/boss was the internal name for Godwyn given his sea theme and massive "human" shape.
i can totally see it as a replacement for the Elden Beast model tbh, with deathblight attacks (Lichdragon Fortissax Death Blight Lightning for example), and a death blight root as a sword, that'd be a cool mod
amazing work!
I gotta see this with his real body, this is awesome
i have ALWAYS wished to see a complete restoration of Godwyn and u just made my wish come true
Have you tried to flip the head so that the mouth is at the bottom of his head. I always thought his corps was leaning against the death blight tree and his head was leaning back. And the fish tail his butt. like a flipped over Jesus. great video though I love this.
NOPE, better leave this shit dead, it just got even more terrifying
Very nice work!
It is amazing how much can be glimpsed just by looking at things that went unused.
PS: Ich bin sehr gespannt darauf, welche Videos du als nächstes hochlädst.
We got videogame paleontology before GTA 6. Also, I never noticed the head was so human like, I always tought the correct facing was upside down
I could also see it just being an NPC like Aldia was for most of DS2. Just enough animation for it to talk to us.
That was so fun to watch
Watch them use this design in one of their games 10 years from now lol.
With how big it is, it would be hard to see all the details, but still, restoration looks amazing!
I have an idea for future videos. Reconstruct or clean up the appearances of bosses and enemies. Basically create hypothetical "prime" versions of the bosses we meet in the game like Radahn, the Godrick Soldiers, or even something as extraordinary as Plasidusax or Bayle before their battle.
See thsi is such an amazing breakthrough cause it really shows how disturbing Godwyn is. The lands between golden boy violently defiled and killed permantly and in as some sort of divine retaliation a new diesels sprouts from his corpse that latches onto to the lifeblood of the lands and spreads its disgusting seed in the lands, creating poorly made ,bloated copy’s of Godwyns disfigured corpse. Even if we don’t see it in game, these corpses fully growing and forming will be a problem for the lands between really soon.
It makes me wonder if there might be more to the pipeline of Godwyn's Loyal Death Knights, the Basilisk imagery in the catacombs. Not to mention potential relations to the Lamprey and the Finger-weavers. We know that upon Godwyn's death something starts to *wriggle* within...
He seems to take design cues from both major deathblight enemies, his overall body shape is like a Basilisk while his tentacle maw is reminiscent of the Wormfaces. I'd imagine considering the visual motif of deathblight and big googly eyes that he'd probably have basilisk-like eyes rolling around in those sockets.
On a completely unrelated note I can't be the only one who thought that his mouth was a beard at first right?
I feel like at one point in development, Godwyn was intended to be a "puzzle boss" like the Bed of Chaos.
This is sick
Im going to commenting just to boost engagement, I didnt know you would reference the UV map like that to recreate a model like that, props to you!
He’s kinda cute in a really screwed up way
Like aww you’re so messed up and twisted from your original form but your legs are funny
"Reconstructing the body of Godwyn? *Sniff* I'm smellin' some grave keeper conspriacies here." D(eez nuts), Hunter of the Dead.
Super cool stuff
Great job man!
I think it may be a little mixed up at the head. The head appears to be twisted 180 and is “upside down” in its default model
