Chris, it's 20 hz to 20khz. Not "twenty thousand killohertz". Though my two dogs (both Great Danes) tend to agree with you. ; ) Nonetheless, I enjoy your contributions to ambient music, my friend.
As I've said several times in other places: mixing is about bringing all the elements together to form a cohesive whole. You therefore have two issues that you address: technical and creative. A lot of problems can be "solved" through levels and panning or even reevaluating the arrangement. And that's it =]
Thanks for this, it's really helpful. My ambient tracks tended to suffer from mid range clutter. Then I stumbled on the fact that selective use of reverb and compression helps, but never really understood why. Now I do thanks to your explanation about frequency space and layers. 💚
Aah so thats what fabfilter eq was showing, the spikes! I was already wondering why i get this info lol. Also good to know that my worklow matches your demostration for the most part. It was al by feelings and my own common sense tough. At least i feel a bit more secure now haha
As an artist I see mixing just like painting, it is all about finding balance and space for each element to rest to create a full picture that is compositionally balanced both in line and tonal value, as with music. Line is level, tonal value is frequency.
Thanks a lot for sharing your insight into mixing with us. Much appreciated, Chris!! I always dread the mixing hence why I omit it completely. But the results are mediocre at best. I will try and see it as another way for me to express my creativity, like you said;) Thanks!
Good stuff, I started producing future bass with a lot of ambience on it and this really helps. Where do you get the free presets for Valhalla? Thanks!
im always making 2 eq directions in my fabfilter q3 , 1 is controlling mid and 2nd is for side. should I keep like thisin your opinion or doing stereo mode on equalizer is better idea?
Why would you put Valhalla on ambient sound? Would it be very hard to clean up the mix, if you do that? I would choose another reverb enhancer. Thank you
It was a pure bliss listening to those 2 sequences blending in.. ❤
Learnt good stuff... Thank you for the video.. 🎉

Chris, this was an eye opener. I feel I understand proper mixing for the first time ever. Tucking away with automated filters made my head go BOOOM!
As a teacher you keep on getting better and better. Well done my friend. I hope to be back soon.
Thanks Greg! Good to hear from you again.

I released a video just before this explaining why mid/side is also a great technique: ruclips.net/video/yNKODp5wp9E/видео.htmlsi=njeNQQ8aU-QAx3UE

has anybody ever noticed that his philtrum is off center? it's pretty jarring once you notice.
Teach me mix-meister.
