How Silk Can Cut Through A Coconut
HTML-код
- Опубликовано: 23 май 2020
- We have seen videos where people have used an angle grinder and paper to cut through different materials, so we want to see if we can something similar with something softer. Today we will take silk, which is known for being very soft, and seeing if we can make it cut through PVC pipe and produce.

Use an actual floppy disc removed from its casing, a CD, and maybe aluminium foil cut into a circle :D
A CD will explode at the speed an angle grinder spins.
Try duct tape :D
@@xavieronasis5361 Slow mo guys had to spin a CD at 23 000 RPM for it to shatter, where an angle grinder spins at around 10 000 RPM.
And if you use a DVD you could spin it at around 32 000 RPM before it shatters

Ideas for blades:
- screen from screen doors
- glass or dinner plate
- thin piece of wood
- orange peeling or other produce
- playing cards
- plastic bags
- cd / dvd
Here's some more:
- Clay/ceramic
- stale bread
- ice?
- resin
- MDF (similar to the thin piece of wood)
- nougat?
- hard candy
couple more
- leather (differing grades of)
- carbon fiber
- neoprene
- crisp (chips) packets nowadays come with a foil plastic combo, which could be interesting.
Probably try some Kevlar

They should make one with wood and use it on wood and see if they can start a friction fire 🔥

Here is something my dad told me that I want proven: twizzlers don’t melt even in a bronze furnace (that was his old job). I also saw that you shouldn’t microwave them so boom twizzler episode. Also can you deep fry it?
Haha that would be so cool
Yeah! I'd also like to see them try to burn Twizzlers. I bet they don't but I still want to see.
Corn starch, sugar, and red dye. There's in really no flavor in the original twizzlers, just the placebo of a vague "red" flavor.

I rarely truly "laugh out loud", watching RUclips. Flying silk fibers and the look on her face; thank you for the interesting and amusing video.
On a different note; do floppy disks really need explanation? I remember when they were the newest thing and SO much better than floppy disks...has it been that long already? *feeling old and not yet 40*
I missed The King of Random, thank you two for curing that. Now I no longer wonder what happened to it. Talk about living on the laurels of the channels originator.

Aluminium foil
Different plastics eg ABS, PET etc
sandpaper
Graphite
Carbon fibre
Epoxy resin, 3d printed parts, glass
Yes I’d like to see aluminum foil or sandpaper
glass could be to dangerous

Sandpaper discs is actually a thing. You have a rubber backing pad, and then the sandpaper works as a grinding disc.
I much prefer them over flap discs, better control with the paper.
Me: Jolly rancher blade
Them: Not candy that's just gonna break
Me: Says you
the difference is, candy will shatter, silk is flexible. Silk wont shatter lol
Actually I think your on to something. JR's are a little more flexible that some hard rock sugar candies. So I'm thinking t-shirt cotton (maybe with the TKOR logo on it), and infuse it with melted JR's. Almost like fiberglass, but cotton and Jolly Ranchers. Gotta make sure to fully infuse it though. Might need a vacuum chamber to get all of the air out.

It just depends on how much superglue they use. If it’s a lot of superglue, it’s just the same as the silk and superglue, plastic.
Its just gonna fall apart bruh
Wool felt vs Synthetic felt!
Also, I know you said no woven cloth, but I'm interested in how burlap, as pretty much the exact opposite of silk, would compare.
at 9:44 there's some noise that sounds exactly like one of my cats meowing lmao
Burn the edges of the silk discs, that finishes the edges so it doesn’t fray. Or you can use fray check glue, or serge the edges.
That will fix the “shredding” problem
Tkor: leave a comment below of what you want to see made into a blade!

I'm curious if hair can cut anything if it spins fast enough
a single strand of hair can hold 50kg and a bunch can hold 15 tons so honestly i wouldnt be surprised
The fact you had to explain a floppy disc makes me feel old. That makes me sad.
Indeed, I even remember the old 5.25 DD floppies.
How about a can lid for a blade? Or if that seems too simple, perhaps some heavy duty foil? Similar to paper, but also super different. Might be interesting to see what different metals do at that speed...
EDIT: Possibly a blade made of wewd?
I see your a men of culture as well
Yeah i was thinking foil too... I can't think of anything thin that's not woven and can withstand some heat/friction... plastic will probably melt and not cut.
Maybe some big leaf? a thin sheet of scrap metal?
Hunter Berwick a can kid would definitely work
Totally a copy from Bobby Duke
Fortnite Boss not a copy he just likes him
May I suggest you use felt, fleece, and leather, for the same experiment? I would also like to see this done with EVA foam sheets.
I wouldn’t say paper or silk is cutting anything it’s pretty much just friction and heat and what material holds up better to centrifugal force, cool video either way!
The first thing that comes to mind, an Ice Blade. I'm so curious to know what it will do before it melts or breaks.
That is a very interesting idea, the ice may break when the wheel starts spinning. It would have to be pretty thick to cut something.

What about Kevlar? That's woven, but it's also supposed to be really strong.
Harry Potter This NEEDS to happen!
I second this motion.

What makes Kevlar so strong is in part the epoxy that holds the cloth together. The threads are strong on their own, but it needs the epoxy to hold it in one piece.
