Beautiful song, that is presented at the end of the movie Ice Castles (Lynn Holly Johnson & Robby Benson), in the climatic scene when her blindness is revealed to the public. You have to react to Melissa 1975 hit Midnight Blue.
Melissa is one of my favorite singers of all time. She has a voice that sounds like no one else. One of my fave songs of hers. Believe me...it's been played at millions of weddings!
The movie is about a female ice skater, who is blinded in a skating accident, and is taught to skate again and falls in love with the trainer. Hence, through the eyes of love.
This song was written by one of my favorite American composers, songwriter and conductors, Marvin Hamlisch. He is best known for writing and composing the song "The Way We Were" for Barbra Streisand back in 1973 for the movie by the same name. He also wrote the entire soundtrack for this movie. He won the Oscar for the best song in 1973 for "The Way We Were" and was also nominated for the Oscar for best song for "Through The Eyes of Love" for the movie "Ice Castles" back in 1980.
This song …. A guilty pleasure for some. But so beautiful…so moving…simply written yet so emotional and really tugs at the heart. Melissa Manchester was originally a gifted songwriter but her demos were so impressive vocally as well that she was signed to a record label as a singer. Such a magnificently trained voice. Perfect. You should listen to “Midnight Blue,” a great song which was her first hit. You would love it.
Melissa had a bunch of hits and I believe was a very underrated vocalist. She has some fantastic love songs you could play midnight blue or don’t cry out loud
Love that song a lot... from the great simple movie Ice Castles....... like the gentlemen said here below... you need to see that movie and it will touch you deeply ,, because your very sensitive........ love your emotions and comments.... your really good at this..... keep it up.....
Really good selection, nice song! I remember it well. Another great female recording artist is Rita Coolidge, who had outstanding hits around the same time like "We're All Alone" and "(Your Love Has Lifted Me) Higher & Higher."
"Ice Castles" also starred Robby Benson who was quite the heartthrob in the 1970's. He played the love interest and was quite cute :) I was only four years old when this movie came out (1978). Robby Benson graced lots of posters and teen girl magazines. Thank you Angela for this wonderful reaction. I first saw this film when I was about 10 years old and fell in love with it.
If you want one that will pull every emotion you have out of you listen to Teddy Swims I Can't Make You Love Me a cover of the great Bonnie Raitt song. Try it and don't judge the voice by the cover!
It comes from a movie called "Ice Castles" from 1978. Pretty good love story that'll make you cry.
i was 12 in 1979...the movie and song have stuck with me ever since...classic

So much memories in the numerous wedding receptions attended back in the 80s and 90s. Thank you for your response, Melissa is such a great vocalist!

Between Rita Coolidge, Melissa Manchester, Helen Ready and Roberta Flack at that same time…there was a lot of great stuff to listen to at that time!

Please play Melissa's Don't Cry Out loud or Midnight Blue.
This WAS our wedding song. But you MUST watch the movie Ice Castles. I was still in college when I saw it in 1978.
❤❤❤❤
Angela - Melissa Manchester had a few hits. I didn't realize this song goes back to the 70's. Proves my point though. Good music is timeless.

One of our best of the 70's singer) songwriters and not one of her best songs

Now you have to see the movie. But have one or two boxes of Kleenex near.
Nice music from Melissa Manchester. Try the Carpenters Someday song I think you will like it.
