LeTourneau Direct Drive (Product Demo)

LeTourneau Technologies takes the viewer to a rig in South Texas drilling a horizontal well. Using the Direct Drive of this top drive drilling machine, the rig drills ahead, backreams, and trips the drill string with power and efficiency.
LTI developed this new generation of Top Drive System to overcome the most common source of failures and rig shutdown - the gearbox. Employing a 1200 HP AC motor, specially built by OEM, a sister company, the custom-designed motor takes advantage of a large hollow shaft to eliminate the gearbox and drive the drill string directly. This simple, direct system delivers 94,000 ft-lbs
of continuous torque; at rotational speeds from 0-112 RPM, and does so with reliability and economy.
