Pure hell on earth, Topical steroid withdrawal results in extremely painful burning oozing skin, vision loss, housebound and looks like you been in a fire and so much worse. Would not wish it on my worst enemy. More awareness need to be out there specially by doctors who freely prescribe this poison.

I developed a skin allergy when I went off to college a few years ago. I had inflamed red flaky skin all over my body too. It was really difficult to have self confidence. Acne is common to see, but dry flaky skin all over someone’s face, hands, arms, legs, etc. it is not common to see. Definitely felt alone without the diagnosis for over a year! This video made me feel even more understood!

I had that, I will never forget being in class and my face was literally all dry and flaky. I am beyond glad yet surprised no one made a comment about it. I remember reading something to my class and wiped my face only to see skin flakes falling off.
Going to school while suffering from eczema and a flare up occurs is horrible. I highly recommend each parent / individual get treated for whatever skin issue they have / eczema issue.

The Doctors have almost utterly missed the point. Topical steroids "work" by temporarily constricting tiny blood vessels in the skin. That's why the redness of a rash disappears when they are applied. Prolonged exposure will disrupt your skin's vascular control system, preventing it from regulating the dilation/constriction axis, and leading to this runaway flaring of redness, oozing, burning, itching, flaking, etc. as blood and fluid permeate the surrounding tissues. That's what TSW is all about, not stress. The medical system has been slow to embrace the idea that one of the most common dermatological treatments not only perpetuates the problems they are intended to treat, but in fact makes them much worse. At least Dr. B alluded to the systemic effects of steroids, but as far as I know, that's an area that dermatology doesn't even consider, and really one that's probably very difficult to assess.

Something I noticed when on topical steroids was that my arms felt as there was no blood running through them when I slept on my side at night. Once I came off the steroid cream that resolved itself almost completely. I think it might have something to do with constricted blood vessels.
I got RSS and withdrawal when going off topical cream and am currently on prednisone and tapering off slowly-I hope it doesn’t result in withdrawal again…

Topical steroids made my psoriasis spread. I had one spot on my head for over a year. oh no, I'm sorry to hear that you had to go to hospital! Steroids are destructive long term and my doctor said I would need to use them for life, but I knew all they were doing was inducing more psoriasis in other areas... This patch on my cheek hung around for over 3 years on steroids and gradually spread to my eyebrows, eyelids, neck, scalp and whole body! After I quit cold turkey 3.5 years ago and accepted TSW, flareups still suck but they become more manageable and patches do disappear... that patch I had on my cheek is permanently GONE now and this gives me hope that this is all temporary.
