  • In this video, I have made a wire harness tape wrapping machine. It is a very simple project - but will help a lot if you are working with wires a lot.
    If you're looking for a simple and easy way to wrap wire harnesses, then this machine is for you! This machine is easy to use, and won't take up much space. If you're looking for a way to improve your wire wrapping, then this is the video for you!
    Main used parts:
    - 20T idler pulleys (with and without teeth): shorturl.at/cgkB1
    - Timing Belt Pulley for motor 60T: shorturl.at/cmL05
    - Timing Belt (length according your setup): shorturl.at/ilBS8
    - Motor 12V 319rpm: shorturl.at/tvTZ7
    - Speed controller: shorturl.at/jnqDP
    - Pedal switch: shorturl.at/boLT8

    the author does like to from scratch, shaping and trimming wood from large blocks into fine finished products. ruclips.net/user/postUgkxD-QRFQz730FJEh4f9BYSf-nkIMIC9hL_ as another reviewer mentioned, most projects require a lot of high-dollar equipment that most of us dont have the room or budget for. But, knowing how to do these things, even if we wont be able to practice the full stack project, is still great.

      The reason nobody is commenting on that stuff is because the video is not about how he made his own tools, it’s about the wire wrapping machine. If people want to give him kudos for his saw, and so on, they’d do it on the video were he made those tools.
      I am assuming he made those videos because this is first of his videos I have seen. Speaking of… there might also be a lot of other people who’s this video is the first or they have watched his entire channel yet. (No, I do not know if you have watched his entire channel or not. I used to make harnesses for Locomotives and I used Tyraps to hold the harnesses together. I would have LOVED to have one of these. It would have made the cabinets look a lot better. They STILL looked nice, but with "trees" of the same color wire with branches of wire coming off, all the loops balanced, & tied together with Tyraps. It was beauty when you got done with it.

  • @adjenkinsuk
    @adjenkinsuk Год назад +13

    That drive "mechanism" is genius for it's simplicity. I also love your method for cutting out circles with a router, again simple but very effective. The only thing that would improve on an already excellent idea is a way of getting a bit more tension on the tape, winding the bundle more tightly.

    • @SSGTVolken
      @SSGTVolken Год назад +7

      Make the bolt holding the tape roll longer. Add a small spring and washer between the nut and tape roll. Loosen/tighten the nut to change the tension. Like a packaging tape dispenser.

    • @carlbruschnigjr1757
      @carlbruschnigjr1757 2 месяца назад

      I was thinking the same thing. There would be two possibles ways to do it, one would be to elongate the motor mounting setup, the other and probably easier way is to have and adjustable idler pulley on the belt. For the tape, use a wingnut to adjust the tape tension.

      I worked in a factory that produced harnesses for Ford & Chrysler and the industrial version of this has a couple of things that make the finished product look even better. A wide rubber belt on the output side that pulls the harness. The operator just puts end on that belt and holds it down with a flat hand and let the adjustable belt speed do the work of coordinating wrap speed, harness diameter and overlap of the tape. The tape holder needs to be at a small angle to help make the tape lay without wrinkles. The tape used was vinyl harness wrapping tape commonly used on auto wiring. It has no adhesive and is secured by a few wraps of friction tape at the ends. That method retains flexibility that adhesive tape won't allow.

    Naturalmente se puede montar un carrete de hilo grueso en vez de cinta aislante o esparadrapo.
    Magnífico trabajo.

    Where did you get the 3D printed item files? The battery and tape holder. Can you give specifics on plastic piece thickness and the screws/nuts used. Also can you post the printer accessories used. belt length and controller details. Great job on this.

    Nice device. Now to make a wire loom tape remover 🤔.
    A portable hand held one would be handy for on site taping.

      Just make a second one that is a mirror image. Set them beside each other and you can wrap and unwrap at the same time. 😂

    Great video on thinking outside the box. Could a request for a parts list be made? I want to duplicate and maybe expand on this concept. Thank you and keep them coming.

    If you've only got one cable to wrap it's a waste lol. If you'd have many, it's a life saver. Well made! Cheers.

    Suggestion:
    for more flexibility of the cable strand it is possible to twist the wires before winding the ribbon around

    I once made a bespoke loom for a kit car. When I hand wrapped it, I found that conventional insulating tape made the loom very inflexible. Factory looms used a very low-tack tape with ends secured by stickier tape or even blobs of glue. Tha same principle may apply with this magical machine.

    My first thought would be to feed the wires at an angle for a smoother wrap. Eventually, add a split guide/rest to hold the wires for a tighter wrap.

  • @brownmuta7537

    I really like the idea!! And great build, props to the creator!! But I would like to see an option with more tension if that makes sense? Like if I'm using electrical tape I really like to get shit tight on the wires so I dont have much chance of it unwrapping. Any ideas or suggestions?
    Even with the current state of the wrapper it could be used for a lot of things, you ever see those asian factory videos where they have basically a huge version of this that they use to wrap an entire box in tape, like this could be used for alot more than just harness wraps with a few changes. Even just this version could be used for things like friction tape on hockey sticks.

    I do this by hand quite often, i like to use plastic tape first so i can make the bundles nice and tight, then go over it with fabric tape, I'm going to build this.
