I met Jeanette and her husband years ago when I was bar tending at the Fairmont Hotel in San Francisco.
They came into my room and sat at the bar which was a good start and a good idea since I have always been a 'solid people person'.
They didn't know what to order and asked me to make them something good and special.
No problem...I think I made them Long Island Iced Teas.
I asked them how their visit was and they quietly said, "It's been all right, but we have not met that many friendly folks.'
They inferred that they weren't getting the respect and the decent service they had hoped for.
I said, "I'll take care of that on my end. What do you need?"
They were restaurant folks and needed some hospitality like they gave in Alabama at her Daddy's Restaurant "Dreamland" in Tuscaloosa.
We talked for about an hour. They liked my concoctions and 'my feel'
I made a few suggestions and made a couple of reservations at restaurants I knew would take care of business and treat them well.
When they had to leave to press on to other places and sites, Jeanette slid a very nice tip my way.
I said, "Jeanettte. I would rather put this money towards a t-shirt or some thing 'Dreamland'.
She handed me back the tip and said, "Don't worry. Give me your address and I will do something!"
We hugged good-bye and they were off having now been treated with respect.
One day a few weeks later while I was home writing, the buzzer rang.
"You got a package from Dreamland down there, David."
I high-tailed it downstairs and took the package upstairs.
"Now what did sweet Jeanette send me?"
She mailed me a t-shirt which I still wear, two bumper stickers which I put on my
car,, and a jar of sauce and two I said two slabs of ribs!!
    Wow!
How was that for respect and kindness?
    Sweet Home, Alabama. Good folks!

GREAT story, David! Thank you so much for sharing! Jeanette and her family are definitely good folks. I make a point of stopping by every time I'm in that part of Alabama.

I’ve been a lifelong Alabama fan that lives in Knoxville, TN of all places. I’ve been to the Alabama vs Tennessee game here at Neyland countless times. My sister that lives in Birmingham surprised me with tickets to the Tennessee vs Alabama game in Bryant-Denny next season! She asked me where I wanted to eat while I was down there. I only had one place on my list. Dreamland BBQ. I can’t wait!! I love ribs and Alabama football!! Roll Tide Roll!!

I went to this place and it was terrible, the ribs was tough and dry and the sauce I don't know the hell that was. Overly hype.
