5 years later...however important you correct some missinformation HD is NOT 1920x1080, that's FHD (Full High Definition). HD is actually 1,280 x 720. It's important to understand that, because you will see monitors and tv that say HD, which, they are offering you HD but people would think it's FHD. Also FYI QHD, called Quad High Definition meaning it's 4x times the HD size. Hence the name and that's why HD is NOT 1920x1080
7 years later. Some things actually don't change! Please help me with buying a monitor for my new rig. Here are my concerns From 6 feet away, can i tweak settings and get my text on screen to look sharp - on a 27" 1440p panel or would 4K do better? I don't think going 32" would help matters - or would it? From what i can tell, all 1440p panels only have 109PPI 4K has much higher but one can reach a point of diminishing returns going with too high on PPI (not clear on that) Another important need...I'm counting on my 4080super to upscale my 720P movies so they look decent on a 27" display - from 6' away. Again, would 2560x1440p screen be better for that or 4K? Stick with 27" size? For the time being, i'll have to use my cheezy 1080p tn desktop panel...yuk Games should look fantastic and not be hindered terribly bad by a display with only 109PPI If you can say that a higher PPI would serve me in all these 3 use cases - that'd be great. Thank you
very good video but what about things like icons, desktop icons, the higher the resolution the smaller they become, is it possible to keep icons always the same size regardless of PPI?
Upscaling. Windows has an option in Configuration. The problem is that, as it happens with every adaptation of something, at least a bit of quality is lost.
Hey @SeanDNguyen I’ve a question if you can help. Is higher ppi always better coz as a fps mobile gamer I wonder if ppi really affects my ingame sensitivity. Like if you know pc gamers always go for lower dpi mouse so that they can gave better control over sensitivity. Is there anything same with ppi or I’m just talking way out of syllabus 😂
Higher PPI can make things look sharper on the screen, correct. But also if the screen is very small it will be hard to see the sharpness since the screen is small.
hey bro, im looking to buy a monitor, 1 has 240 hz which is rly good but only has 70ppi the other has 75 hz which is average but has 92 ppi. any suggestions?
I just bought new monitors that have a 104ppi where as my older one (7 years old) have a 134ppi? There both 1920x1080 and both HD though the older ones are a tn panel and the newer ones with the less ppi are ips panel....I feel like I messed up as the picture quality is noticable to me but not absolutely horrible if I crank up the sharpness on the new ones it's barely noticable like BARELY but the colours on the new ones seem a tad off compared to the older ones also. Could it just be getting used to the new ips panel monitors etc or did I make a poor choice
OP7TP: 3120x1440 (516ppi) 6.67 inch screen OP8: 2400x1080 (402ppi) 6.55 inch screen both seem to be 90hz refresh rate. The 7T has a larger screen and higher resolution resulting in higher PPI, BUT at that size it'll be hard to tell the difference between the two different PPIs between the phones unless you're REALLY looking for it.
Is there a big difference between 386 PPI and 560 PPI for human eyes on a 6,6 inches smartphone Oled Full HD display? If yes, could you explain me what kind of differences Please?
Yes. A 560 ppi will have more sharper images to the eye. A 386 ppi is no where near bad though. In my opinion, anything above 350 is MORE than enough to get a decent experience.
If you're looking at something on such a small screen, it'll hardly be noticeable. But the higher PPI will have a TINY little bit more sharpness to it. But honestly, it doesn't make a huge difference in a handheld device.
It depends, I wouldn't say "useless" it's more of preference. 4k @ 27inch = 137ppi 4k @ 32 inch = 183ppi At those sizes there's such a small difference it's personal preference at that point.
It was decent. Understand to a level. I would like a video on Tv, best smart Tv with its feature size etc. Most videos online won't stay the best base on Ram, internal storage, Quality display, Screen to screen ratio. Of you could make one like the I would love that. Hit me up when you Do. !
@@seandnguyen no its not that. What I meant was how much of rough number as in percentage would let's say a ppi like 400 would look different as compared to 500 ppi on a 6 inch screen
why the f do monitor manufactures refuese to do 24 inch 1440p-4k if there is literally 1440p and 4k phones and laptops wtf, you cannot see a diffrence between a 1080p phone and a 1440p phone the pixels are so small already but the people saying 1080p is sharp enough for a 24 inch monitor are insane, even 1440p is not exactly enough its good but 4k on such screens is not useless.
Smartphones do not take advantage of even full hd ... because the scream is so small so the pixels ... only tablets and notebooks start to use 1080P real potential . QHD on a smartphone is very nonsense , just give us uncompressed content in 1080P instead...
This is not helpful unless you want to listen over and again to this video, take down notes and then on top of that do a lot of math based on those notes when you try to compare tablets your considering.

these informative videos are well done . keep doing them :)
Damnit Sean, giving us a trick question. They all have the same PPI.
The text and icons on my old Pixel 2 XL looks much sharper than my lower PPI Samsung S21. I'd need the S21 Ultra to have that same sharpness.
4K hdr 167ppi on 27inch good?
This was exactly what I needed to see so I could understand thank you very much

Ok, you freaked me out a bit cause I'm watching this on my Galaxy S7 (non edge).

I'm not good with the different types of panels, so I can't help you there. What size are your new and old monitors?

I tried to claim PPI against parents "Bank of Mom n dad" they have counter claimed citing that I was adopted. What should I do?
What about using vr headset with mobile? Higher ppi is good, right?
Hi and thx, do you think shifting from iphone at 326 ppi to iPad 224 ppi will result in a worst experience ?
Can you tell me if the iPhone XS Max can be as sharp as the note 9 or be able to play 1440p videos?
I used to have a s8 (570ppi) and I just got a s10 plus (522ppi) but I don't even notice the difference
Yeah, it's def hard to see the difference at that size, 5 inches vs 6/7 inches.
Great video, very informative
Thank you this made it very clear......

Why can't a smartphones screen be one giant pixel instead of many pixels
DPI OF EXACTLY ONE.
So if I get a 27 inch 4K hdr monitor with 167ppi will it be useless? Or would a 32 be better at 4K?

I went to a 405 ppi phone from a 421 ppi and the difference was massive. The screen looked so cheap on the 405 phone, not crispy or sharp.
It's such a small little change but makes a world of difference
