I’m so glad they said “friends by my side” instead of “man by my side”.

Was that the original lyric? This is the only one I've heard.

I'm posting this information here because for some reason, your blog wouldn't allow me to post it there. I attended two performances of this show, one in Enid, Oklahoma, on February 1st, because this was the closest venue to my home that offered VIP tickets; and the one in Wichita, Kansas, on January 30th, because that one was in my hometown and the first show of the tour. The shows were great in both places, but the VIP package that I got in Enid was sadly disappointing. First of all, there was no real pre-show "party" to speak of. There were no activities for us to do except for some coloring supplies for the kids; the rest of us pretty much just had to sit and wait around until the meet and greet. There were no games, no activities, no snacks, absolutely NOTHING. There was just one TV that seemed to be playing the same scene from "Encanto" over and over again. I also thought that there would be lots of cool Disney merchandise for sale, but what they did have was mostly T-shirts and a few other items mostly meant for adults. Even Disney on Ice had much cooler stuff for sale than this concert did!
And the meet and greet, which I had looked forward to for five months, was sadly disappointing. The tour's website was vague, only saying that it would adhere to local COVID protocols at each stop, so I thought that, since I live in a part of the country with no mask/vaccine mandates and life is pretty normal here, that I would have at least a semi-normal meet and greet session. I got an email only two days before the event that said that I had to wear a mask around the performers and couldn't give/accept hugs or get autographs, which was disappointing, but I assumed that I was at least going to get at least a couple of minutes with each of the performers, and get individual pictures with them. I was sadly mistaken in that regard.
I did not find out, until just before I got into the meet and greet area, that I wouldn't get any one-on-one time with any of the performers, or get any individual pictures with any of them, let alone give hugs or handshakes. I had to stand six feet away from them, even though I was required to wear a mask and the performers have all been vaccinated, and talk to them all as a group. This was especially disappointing to me because one of the main reasons why I had shelled out $235 and driven to a venue two hours away, was because I was very excited about the prospect of meeting Anneliese van der Pol, my favorite performer, and I thought that this might be my only chance to do so. I didn't really even get a chance to talk to her, because it was overwhelming for me to try to talk to five people at once, and five celebrities, at that, and I'm ticked off that I couldn't even get so much as one nice picture with her, something I had really been looking forward to. All I got one was one socially distanced group picture that I didn't even feel was worth posting on social media!
The performers were all very nice, but it wasn't the celeb interaction experience I had expected. There was a Q and A following this so-called meet and greet, but I was feeling too deflated to ask any questions, and IMO, a Q and A is NOT the same thing as getting a couple of minutes of one-on-one time with your favorite performers. I was feeling so upset that I was ready to go home just before the show, since I had already seen it in Wichita, but I decided to stay and get my money's worth out of it. At least I had a good seat and got some nice video clips of some of my favorite songs, which helped to somewhat ease the disillusionment of the evening.
Here's my personal recommendation: I would advise just getting tickets to watch the show itself, which I thought was great, and forget about getting a meet and greet package, at least until all this COVID stuff is gone. I don't know if procedures for the meet and greets are going to change further down the line, but if you're counting on being able to get some one-on-one time with your favorite performers and getting a nice picture with them, you may be sadly disappointed. I had to find all this out at the last minute, which made it even worse after five months of high anticipation. This event was supposed to be a special treat for me after a really rough year, and even though I've been on a limited budget, I shelled out the money because I thought it would be worth it. Disney crushed my dream thanks to its stupid COVID protocols that I was NOT told about well in advance. The only thing that really saved this evening from being a total emotional washout for me was that Anneliese remembered who I was because I post on her Instagram page, and she was very kind to me. Otherwise, it was not quite the magical, amazing evening I hoped for!

I am so sorry to hear about your experience. There have been a lot of complaints lately about Disney nickel and diming people and skimping out on many experiences that they used to be known for. If you watch the channel Clownfish TV, they post regular discussions about it. I'm glad I opted for the lowest VIP tier because it only cost a little more than a regular ticket, but even with that, I was surprised that the included goody bag didn't include anything with pictures of princesses on it nor anything I would ever actually use.
When I attended the Broadway Princess Party a few years ago, all the actresses (Laura Osnes, Susan Egan, and Courtney Reed) came out afterward at a table in the lobby, and everyone lined up to talk to them one-on-one. This was a fantastic experience for me, but it was before COVID and before the show got bought out by Disney. I was concerned as soon as I found out that Disney bought them out because the show was always meant to be an intimate evening with a small audience.

Thanks for this! Was wondering if it would be worth it to get VIP tickets for me and my 3yr old.
