Hi folks, I am not qualified to give any authentic information about the Janjira Killa. However, I am able to narrate what my father told me about the Killa. My father and his family used to reside within the killa when it was inhabited by people of all faith mainly Hindus and Muslims. According to my father's account the killa was built by a Habshi Nawab (from Habash or Abbyssinia, presently Ethiopia), an African sultan. The killa was built on an island and the Nawab had to sacrifice his son as it was not being able to be built. This story may be a legend but was handed down for centuries. Please don't get me wrong if you feel I am twisting history. This is what my father told me when I was very young but do remember his narration. He also mentioned that there used to be a darbar within the killa and the Nawab used to hold meetings with his officials and attend to the day to day events. My grandfather was the Nawab's tailor. During my father's time the Nawab was a Siddi (African). The Nawab had a palace on mainland Murud where he used to reside. I believe there was or is another killa, known as Kasa Killa opposite Murud. My name is Sayed Mazharali Al-Haddad son of Sayed Abdulkadir Al-Haddad son of Sayed Ali Al-Haddad. Sayed Ali was my grandfather and the appointed tailor of the Nawab. The killa was eventually vacated and most of the people migrated across to the village of Rajpuri. This is my narration of the history of the Janjira Killa as related by my father, a resident of the killa. My father migrated from Rajpuri to Mombasa, Kenya when both India and Kenya were British Colonies. Presently, I reside in Nairobi, Kenya born and bred in Mombasa.

Ha Killa Malik Ambar hyane Bandhila, he was a minister of the Sulanate of Ahmednagar. Some people say Rajaram Rao Patil built it however thats wrong. He was only an Admiral who was posted on that fort. He built the Ganesh mandir on the fort however in 1489 he revolted and refused to take further orders from Ahmednagar. So he was replaced by Piram Khan who alongwith the Siddhis of Surat attacked the fort and took over. See my comments at the top of this post.

Dear Friends, Please get your facts right and do not believe in hear-say -- yes some people do claim that the fort was built by Rajaram Rao Patil who was a Agri Koli and an Admiral of the Sultanate of Admednagar however he only ruled the fort and did not build it. Read On .. The Janjira Fort was not built by Rajaram Rao Patil as he was just the Admiral of the Sultanate of Ahmednagar Sultan in the 14th century AD. Rajaram Rao Patil was a Agri Koli and if you see the design of this fort its no where close to Koli fort designs. The original builder of this fort was Malik Ambar who was an Abyssinian minister in the court of the Sultan of Ahmednagar. Rajaram Rao Patil was posted there as Admiral however in 1489, he refused to further take orders from the Sultan so a new Admiral was appointed "Piram Khan" who alongwith the Siddhis from Surat tried to march towards the fort however would not dare to attack as those canons that you see there would have destroyed the entire army. So the Siddhis disguised as merchants requested Rajaram Rao Patil to protect their large boxes of valuables (its reported that they had Silk and Wine) from other raiders. The Siddhis treated Rajaram Rao Patil's defences with the Wine and after completely intoxicating them attacked the fort and murdered Rajaram Rao Patil and took over the fort and also put their Emblem on the main gate which gave the archaeological excavators an idea that it was a Siddhi Fort.
