I hate to break it to Vice but the fact is Compulsive Sexual Behavior (sexual addiction) is a recognized psychological disorder in DSM-5. While there are a few studies (for example a UCLA study that correlated sexual response more with Libido than compulsivity), the vast majority of studies show that a certain segment of the population who have addictive personalities do tend to use pornography compulsively and in a escalatory manner that does impact their life and enjoyment. Studies have shown that sexual addiction MAY escalate to more deviant behaviors to the point of immoral or illegal behavior. Other studies point to the fact that recovering sex addicts often replace their addiction to porn with other addictions (I.e. Alcohol or drugs) as a coping mechanism to deal with the lack of the dopamine high that both porn and drugs provide (illustrating the addictive aspect of pornography). The fact is, the Senator is right: freedom is so incredibly important but some things that MAY result in future behaviors that a young person may regret in the future should be adequately assessed and addressed. Additionally, there a shame component in religious communities (and it's not just Mormons) to these sorts of behaviors that are deemed immoral. Sometimes the shame isn't even intended but rather the kids feel like they can't share their issues or compulsiveness with others or be deemed a pervert or evil. No doubt these communities need to do a better job of educating young and old that kindness, understanding, and careful openness towards these issues can help people who desire to stop an addiction to be able to find help. Long story short: why does Vice give a shit if a community wants to address an issue that may be a looming health issue? Why does Vice care if an individual wants to stop beating the brass monkey all day and can't stop? Why do they care if that person seeks help via a convention and workshops? Why didn't Vice at least try to present the multitude of other studies that show the huge impact porn and masterbation have on brain dopamine levels and how, just like with drugs, there is a huge crash after that leaves people wanting to fill it with more of whatever will give them another shot of dopamine? Vice, I love you folks but this one was a bit one sided and dumb. Why not love people who are truly diverse from yourself? Sounds like you all are a bit intolerant of others who believe a bit differently than you do. Sounds like you all may be the bigots on this one. Nothing but love for you all though.
Vice cares in the same way, NBC, ABC Fox News and all other media cares, they are not doing it for them, the media does stories because they know many other people care, screw this religion and all others no religion should be protected from criticism, blasphemy, whatever you want to call it, and the moron church is one of the most fucked up, it should all be shown for what it really is, a cult.
I live in Wyoming and I'm 2.5 hrs away from UT. The west side of WY is a lot mormon along the the UT & ID border. We all call them a cult. I hope you are able to get out when you are old enough.
I grew up Mormon. It was terrible. The bishop asked so many personal questions and it felt like we weren’t allowed to have any secrets. It just feels really invading.
As a former member of the church watching this, I was pretty weirded out seeing this clothing being used in a sexual way! 😅 I just wished they went more in depth about the garments. There's a lot of symbolism and meaning to it, could of been interesting to the audience.
The teacher hit the nail on the head. The problem isn't so much porn itself, but the fact that schools either provide terrible or zero sexual education AND that porn is used as a primary source of sex education (especially since it's so easily accessible by youths).
The problem is that- 1: Porn shouldn't be shameful, and shouldn't be so stigmatized. It can have a positive impact on those with religious backgrounds that repressed or looked down on sexuality. & 2: The porn industry is poorly regulated. This leads to physical/emotional abuse of the performers, increasingly violent scenes, and the possibility of children or unconsenting people being filmed for porn. Both of these are true statements, but neither side will allow enough nuance to tackle the problem.
I’m not Mormon or religious and I grew up here in nyc and I agree so much that pornography is a very awful thing. I’ve been addicted to it since I was 12 and I’m 24 now and it’s warped my views on women and made me depressed, anxious, and has had an overall negative impact on my life. I wish I had never discovered it
Specially now that alabama is passing a law to allow churches to create their own police forces. Seems pretty much the same as the sharia law republicans hate so much.
Whenever I see someone working so hard like that senator to remove something like porn I can only imagine the amount of skeletons he has in his closet.
That's the go-to comparison for anyone that wants to push an agenda. Just call it Communist, Socialist, or Nazi and the dumb will gather around it in agreement.
The person interviewed did not make the comment it was Karley who asked the leading question, which brought about a positive response. Any good interviewer knows that this technique is highly questionable, if you are seeking an objective answer.
I'm an exmormon and never was worthy enough to go to the temple and I love mormongirlz porn, but a lot of friends don't like it cause they find garments such a turn off, especially those who only saw their wives in one and not their naked bodies. The mormon church makes sex with some people feel so dirty. It's sad
I grew up as a severely active mormon. I never drank coffee. I didn't try my first caffeinated drink until I was like 12 (it was Dr pepper lol). I of course watched porn back then, and the church was extremely shameful against those who watched porn. I was very honest with my bishop about everything, and it was unbearable to hear him use the same words to me about porn as he would use for a heroin addict. I felt terrible about it. So I left. And I've never been better.
Porn is a drug. Try to stay away for a few days and watch how much you will suffer. You develope anger issues watching porn and start to like weird sex. Your eye vision will be bad, your body will feel weak, lose hair and you will get arthritis. That's the cost for a few minutes of pleasure. Not worth it.
@@grizzly2803 So.. couple of things, porn and masturbation don't cause those problems. They just don't. Look at everyone you see and even yourself for proof. People don't become angry and have issues when they stop watching porn; if they do, it isn't because they've stopped it's because they have a built of tension that they aren't releasing through that outlet. Masturbation is a very healthy thing, for both men and women. It's a way to explore your body and mind, get in tune with the way you feel and your needs and wants, it also boost confidence and self esteem. You feel good about yourself and your body...Outside of yourself, it can be a very useful thing in relationships. The weird thing sex... what're we talking with weird? People fantasize about, or have fantasies including, all sorts of stuff. And it's relatively normal. The experiences we have in life or the stresses of say to day life may be expressed in non-traditional fantasies, it doesn't come from porn. It's more found from porn. These fantasies people have aren't always something they want to really happen or do, but a way for them to escape and be someone else... much like reading a book or watching a show.
Living in Utah and having grown up both Evangelical Christian and later being a member of the LDS Church, I really appreciate this documentary. The real damage, for me, was that as my sexually advanced it felt like a an out of control fire I had to repress. Rather than understanding that having a strong desire for sex is normal and healthy ways to respond to that sex drive, I was taught to feel shameful. Unfortunately, repressing sexuality fails because it is part of our psyche. While I agree that porn can be trashy and not a good tool for teaching about sexuality, if we are not having the healthy, positive conversation about human sexuality than porn is really our only outlet available. P.S. Karley, you are awesome!
The most sexually repressed nations are the ones where women have the least rights and men lose their virginity the latest. Humans need a sexual outlet otherwise they resent the opposite sex and abuse them.
I agree. Many times I was shamed when I was younger, and I wasn’t taught the right ways to deal with the process of being human. It was horrendous and a hard pill to swallow.
woah I can’t believe this pornography addiction is the root of my depression and anxiety even though i’ve been suffering since before I even had access to the internet
@Last Earthbender What kind of psychopath uses porn to "escape" their problems? It's a form of entertainment. That's it. If you're using porn to treat your clinical depression, you're using it wrong. Just bust a nut and get on with your life, like everybody else. It's not supposed to be a major part of your life.
@Iconoclast yes, the difference is mankind never had this unlimited access to high speed internet porn. It's extremely damaging for does that get addicted easily.
@@VomitPinata sure, but for a lot of people it does become a major problem for them. If you can keep your porn usage moderate then by all means, continue e-jacking. But a lot of people simply can't keep it moderate and end up progressing into more hardcore porn genres as the novelty of what they watch wears off. I don't think porn should be banned or anything but everybody should be educated on the effects of obsessive porn usage.
Damn I wish I could have happened by the shoot of this doc. Many things I could share from my life of 45 years living ONLY in Utah. The first 14 years of my life that I still considered myself Mormon, and EVERYTHING I've learned since that day I walked away.
the clothes they wear with the apron and garments deadass gave me the idea of madonna redoing her 1984 vma performance of like a virgin but in the mormon outfit
I wish more republicans were like this guy. He's not trying to ban anything, well spoken, intelligent. Can speak and write in more than 140 characters...
When people says that you should not this certain thing, instead of doing what your told to, the urge of doing that certain thing will just get stronger and eventually will lead you to doing that certain thing out of curiosity
I grew up LDS. I was completely unaware of why I felt so ashamed all the time about having basic human emotions such as arousal, and didn't realize that the church was actually causing it. At 16, I was raped by one of my past boyfriends. The conflicting feelings of shame and guilt put upon me by the church caused me to cover up what happened. Only recently was I able to come forward about it, and my still-active LDS family is still not fully supportive of me. Spreading awareness about things like this, even if hard to watch from a religious perspective, is important.
I'm sorry you were date raped. In 1994 I was date raped by a personal ad from a Jewish organization after a few dates. I regret not calling the police because I was afraid of my dad. I'm ok from the situation but I regret not doing something because I'm sure he's done it again.
When I lived in Austin one of my good friends went to a lot of strip clubs. Two of the girls he interacted with the most were Mormon strippers. Well, ex Mormon strippers. They had been controlled and repressed sexually their whole life they decided to GO INTO sex work. So clearly being hyper repressed sexually has affected them. They didn’t just chose to lead their life sexually open and liberated but chose to go into sex work BECAUSE of the huge amount of shame, repression, and control. Because of the huge amount of shame they feel they also indulged in drugs and drinking to deal with the shame they felt. So what is doing the most damage, being shamed to feel sex and sexuality is a sin or growing up with parents who are open and supportive of their children exploring sex in a SAFE and educated way!????
That's b.s. There's more to that story. Nobody goes and becomes a hooker cuz they are sexually repressed. Maybe a whore but not with random paying customers. I'm sure they were sexually abused. That happens in any religion. The religion is perfect the people are not.
Porn Addiction shouldn't be in quotation marks. I agree it should not be compared to a massive world war but porn addiction is a real thing. I am not a Mormon, I am not against any sexual fetishes and believe people should take charge of their sexuality. I am just a man who has been effected by porn in a very bad way.
I am late to the game here but WOW What is that backwards belt on her skirt - LOVE IT - can we start that? It's 6 yrs later and this isn't a trend yet. Like fr lets get this going
Nothing usually get better by outlawing it. I think the world is made too easy, if it were harder people would take more responsibility of themselves and not blame the world.
Sad. You can tell some of those TBM guys are too afraid to come out as LGBTQ+. I can't blame them. In their environment, it must be terrifying. Been a Utahn all my life, BTW.
Yeah but just a bit wise to know what this leads to. India had kamasutra and was invaded by Muslims and Christians who looted it. When poor starts misuding the system then you will curse why you supported white dads that let their young daughters wear bikini and then wonder about pedophilia. World isn't 30 years of whites buy 2000 years in which India was the richest because it had 6 seasons. This documentary is a propaganda and soon you will see how karma will make the west pay for looting the richest country for 1500 years
A majority of my relationships have been negatively affected by addiction to pornography. If your desire to view this hurts your partners self esteem that should be taken seriously, if your partner has a moral issue with many of the themes represented by porn you should respect these things. I still wouldn't support making it illegal though.
That's just a front for their true issue with porn. It's a deeply rooted sense of pride in their asexual beliefs. They just use the children as an excuse, when it's clearly the parents fault for not watching the kid. I discovered porn on the internet when I was in 5th grade. That was before there were things like parental controls and the internet was only a baby at the time. I didn't really know what I was looking at, but any kid with a basic understanding of right and wrong will know when porn takes things too far (no I'm not talking about some kind of weird deep anal porn). Now I'm not saying kids should be watching porn... definitely not. BUT the reality is that they will probably come across at some point (probably years before they engage in sex) and they will need to know how to respond to their feelings on it. That's why sexual education is so important. In the digital age children need to be educated on consent, the purpose of pornography and why it's not okay for them to watch it until they are of age.
So funny enough, I was raised Mormon, and my parents when I was growing up put some of the most ridiculous parental controls online. But, I often found ways around them
Dude, you gotta be that funny parent that trolls their kids at every waking chance. Get a site redirect program (unless there is one hiding in the settings. Not sure honestly), find every single porn site you can come across and put those in. When the kids type in any of those sites, it redirects them to Rick Astley's Never Gonna Give You Up.

Vice cares in the same way, NBC, ABC Fox News and all other media cares, they are not doing it for them, the media does stories because they know many other people care, screw this religion and all others no religion should be protected from criticism, blasphemy, whatever you want to call it, and the moron church is one of the most fucked up, it should all be shown for what it really is, a cult.
as someone who's non mormon living in a mormon community, I'm glad that you guys can finally see what I have to deal with. these people are insane
@cung I don't exactly have a choice, I'm kinda a minor....
The worst! Big reason I left Boise Idaho!!
Sorry you had to go through that
I live in Wyoming and I'm 2.5 hrs away from UT. The west side of WY is a lot mormon along the the UT & ID border. We all call them a cult. I hope you are able to get out when you are old enough.
Ms karley keep doing what you do making these shows and ill keep watching you are amazing!!
Very well documented. I love how comfortable the interviewer was with her guests, despite a lot of them having opposing views to herself.

The teacher hit the nail on the head. The problem isn't so much porn itself, but the fact that schools either provide terrible or zero sexual education AND that porn is used as a primary source of sex education (especially since it's so easily accessible by youths).
The problem is that-
1: Porn shouldn't be shameful, and shouldn't be so stigmatized. It can have a positive impact on those with religious backgrounds that repressed or looked down on sexuality.
&
2: The porn industry is poorly regulated. This leads to physical/emotional abuse of the performers, increasingly violent scenes, and the possibility of children or unconsenting people being filmed for porn.
Both of these are true statements, but neither side will allow enough nuance to tackle the problem.
I love the interviewers sarcasm and sense of humor!
"Is that him? No right? That's just someone in a suit looking mormon. No that is him. Is that him? Oh it's him." this had me cracking up

I’m not Mormon or religious and I grew up here in nyc and I agree so much that pornography is a very awful thing. I’ve been addicted to it since I was 12 and I’m 24 now and it’s warped my views on women and made me depressed, anxious, and has had an overall negative impact on my life. I wish I had never discovered it
Why I'm addicted to Vice , you guys are dope 🔥

comparing porn to the nazis has to be one of the worst things I've heard all day
It's disrespectful to those that fought WWll and those that was hurt or suffered the consequences of war :/

See you in Hell, buddy! First beer's on me.
Good for you
Porn is a drug. Try to stay away for a few days and watch how much you will suffer. You develope anger issues watching porn and start to like weird sex. Your eye vision will be bad, your body will feel weak, lose hair and you will get arthritis. That's the cost for a few minutes of pleasure. Not worth it.
@@grizzly2803 lmao wtf
You are awesome! Love the style, and way you carry yourself
I love the curly-haired guy she interviewed. Open-minded people like him are very much needed in this world

There is help for you if you want it.
I did not know that morman women were “checked”. That’s disgusting

woah I can’t believe this pornography addiction is the root of my depression and anxiety even though i’ve been suffering since before I even had access to the internet
Right ? Like porn is actually a great way to relax and get your mind off of your depression.

Also shaming ppl isn't always good. Teaching is better than shaming
Time for churches to start paying taxes.

If you tell a three year old not to look at this one thing, they are absolutely gonna go look at it 🤦♀️

When poor starts misuding the system then you will curse why you supported white dads that let their young daughters wear bikini and then wonder about pedophilia. This documentary is a propaganda and soon you will see how karma will make the west pay for looting the richest country for 1500 years
Thanks Vice for letting me know of this website :)
Hey politicians, fix the roads and bridges in this country stay out of my personal life.
A majority of my relationships have been negatively affected by addiction to pornography. If your desire to view this hurts your partners self esteem that should be taken seriously, if your partner has a moral issue with many of the themes represented by porn you should respect these things. I still wouldn't support making it illegal though.
Do Mormons know about parental controls? I feel like their whole issue can be solved with an age/password restricted setting.
Bakka Knost I always find my ways
Oh god, that is the single greatest idea in parenting history.
