I've found many a Viva paper towel in my dryer after going through the wash (on accident, left in a pocket), and they're straight up ready to be used again. They're like cleaning cloths. #1 in our home.
I much prefer Viva, for several reasons. It's plenty strong and absorbent and it's soft enough that I don't buy facial tissue anymore. A half sheet makes a perfect handkerchief. It's so soft that even if you have a cold, it doesn't hurt your nose. And it lasts with no "blow-through". Don't know why I'm so passionate about VIVA, but I am! But thanks for testing even the lowly paper towel.
Viva (original) is the ONLY towel I will use, and I have been exclusive Viva for 30 years, WAY better then bounty. Bounty is like paper, Viva is like cloth.
Hi Cook's Country, Thank you for the video, great one as usual. I guess I'm the only one that buys several different brands of paper towels, each kind for different tasks. I also use microfiber cloths, barmop towels, blue shop towels, floursack towels, dishcloths, and dish towels. If the paper towels were lightly used (like for dinner napkins), I wash them in the dishwater and hang them up to dry. The blue shop towels can be washed with the towels in the washer and dryer several times. I'm cheap, I pinch pennies, but I use the best towel for the job that needs to be done. For those of you in the comments that said you use paper towels for draining bacon grease. If you only use two paper towels, then use a couple of sheets of newspaper under the paper towels, they soak up grease too, paper towels keep food away from the newsprint ink. And you can use fewer paper towels. Take care, stay safe.☺️✌️☮️🖖 😷
Just for fun, they should have included the blue “Shop Towels” brand to have a ringer in the mix. They’re not even intended for kitchen use, but if they’re strong enough for the garage, they’ll handle the stovetop just fine
I switched from Bounty to Viva cloth style half sheets. They make great napkins, are softer than Bounty, and clean-up is about the same. I even use them to blow my nose on occasion as they're so soft and absorbent.. They should have come out in the testing as good as Bounty, but I guess it depends on how you're using them.
I discovered Brawny after that's all that was left at the supermarket. For $5.99 I took a chance. They are great!! That's the only brand I buy now. At the daycare where I work, we get Kirkland brand and they're fantastic. If I had a membership I'd buy those too. They're thick and super absorbent.
I wish ATK would give us the top three of their tested products. I'd like to know what is rated a little less but more cost effective for my household.
Keep in mind too that it may cost more upfront but you end up using a lot less. I use Bounty I buy on sale on Amazon or BJs. I accidentally brought their regular rolls one time and usually a big pack last me 2 months... this time it last me 3 weeks 🤦🏾♀️ so I pay much more attention
I buy those blue shop towels, too! While I don't use them they way I use Bounty, it's nice to have a roll when really tough, nasty, jobs turn up. I'd rather toss a blue shop towel than a kitchen fabric towel because I can't get the stains out.
To prove a point, I once used two blue shop towels to clean an entire bathroom from top to bottom. They were pretty beat up when I was done, but still going strong.
It's nice to have my own testing/research validated, lol! I use Bounty, and switched to select-a-size when it first came out. I currently buy them at Target when the do their spend $40 on household paper products and get a $10 gift card. Nowhere else has been able to beat the final price. If I have a manufacturer's coupon, I am even happier.
Yeah, I buy the Huge size online at Target when they go on sale. Add them as a subscription and save another 5 or so %. I find with select a size, I'm using them more often than with just a full size sheet.
Also a Target paper towel fan! Have been buying the select-a- size since they first started selling them! Another way I save on paper products is to save the napkins that are packed with take-out foods! I can’t believe.how many I have received from some restaurants! I don’t throw out the extras but use them if I have small spills or whatever I would use a small size paper towel for!
I used Bounty for years, but switched a couple of years ago because the quality just didn't seem as good. I began using various brands of paper towels including store brands, usually whatever was on sale. Recently I noticed Brawny had a new type of towel called "TearA Square", where you had the option of tearing a full sheet into 2 halves or 4 squares. There are times when I need only a small piece of paper toweling, so I gave the new Brawny type a try. I'm very pleased and plan to keep buying them. The full sheets tear easily but not so easily that you have to worry about them coming apart. The perforations hold up until you're ready to tear. I love having the option of four small squares from a whole sheet. When I first open a roll, I tear several full sheets into squares and stack them in a handy place on my counter. I also like the thickness and texture of Brawny towels. They do a good job of cleaning up, dry or wet. Some paper towels are almost useless unless you wet them first. Then they tend to shred. Not Brawny towels.
My issue recently with the Costco ones is that they have enlarged the 1/2 sheets to about 1" per sheet which makes you use more. They also individually wrap the rolls which is a waste of packaging though handy for the motorhome. Besides the Costco gripes, Bounty has been my pick for many years for all the reasons your test found. I can even wipe a cast iron pan without much lint (still not lint-free cotton).
Your videos about all things food, kitchen everything and accessories are super. I don't cook; I'm a 'microwaver' but watch your videos as if I had the skills and space to cook. Keep em' coming. 👍👍
@@scottieboy7853 Nope! But I *do* talk to paper towels when I'm in the grocery store and "Bounty" told me they were the best! LOL. Seriously, I've tried quite a few brands of paper towels and bounty is my favourite.

I’d also like to see the best disinfecting wipes (we usually get Member’s Mark also but Kirklands (Costco) is better)!
I use a lot of blue shop paper towels. They do leave paper lint when cleaning our your cast iron, carbon steel, etc. they absorb more and can be rinsed out, dried fast, and re-used. I also use Bounty for the lighter stuff.
Hmmm. I have a roll of Bounty paper towels that have both Bounty and America's Test Kitchen emblems on them; they were giveaways at last year's Seattle Eats. When you really want to use a paper towel like a towel, drying it out between uses, nothing beats Viva. Bounty and their heavy use of wet-strength additives is simply not for me.
I loved viva and used that for years. It did the job better than any other I've ever used. Thick, plush, absorbent. They felt more like cloth that paper towel. But it was a pain in the BUTT to get them to unroll. When you've got a mess on your hands (literally) and you go to grab a paper towel and the sheet is sticking to the roll and fighting you for every inch, it's just too damn much. I finally hit the wall where I was just fed up with needing two hands every time I wanted to grab a paper towel and walked away from that brand.

That's what I've been using. I used to use Brawny Select-A-Size, but my local store stopped selling them in 3 packs and only sells them in 8 packs now and I don't have room to store all those rolls. So now we use the Great Value Strong paper towels in the Select-A-Size and they're almost as good.
I don't know when this test took place, but Bounty has recently, (cupla months ago) made their sheets twenty five percent smaller AND increased the price.
Viva orig fabric style soaks more bounty. I take care of sick foster cats and viva out shines bounty for these types of messes. But even better is the blue shop towels, but they are more expensive.
Hi baire702, Me too. I accidentally grabbed the blue shop towel I had been using in the kitchen (to clean the sink and countertops with using Comet) when I did laundry. I had already used it for a week, just rinsed it out and hung it to dry every day. I found it when I was folding the towels. I ended up using that one blue towel for a month, putting it in the washer and dryer once a week, before it finally fell apart. I'm glad to hear I'm not the only one that washed and dried those towels. Take care, stay safe.☺️✌️☮️🖖😷
I guess they don’t test Kirkland (Costco) brand, which are great...Bounty is my favorite, but the Kirkland is fantastic...curious why ATC doesn’t ever include Costco/Kirkland brands?
These Best is cloth. I haven't bought a single paper towel in over 8 years. Old cotton towels and t-shirts are the best. I have large pieces of white cotton t-shirt that I use in the kitchen for covering things in the microwave, for straining things like yogurt, and also textured ones for cleaning. The price of paper is way too much, and I'm not referring to money.
Paper towels are one of those things that are inexplicably expensive in this country, along with bell peppers. In Europe you pay about $1.20 for a pack of 4 paper towels. Over here it's $1.20 per roll. I get the 15 pack from Sam's Club which is $17 for 2200 sheets. Bell peppers in Europe are about $1.20 for a pack of 3 mixed colors or 5 green.

That's what I've been using. I used to use Brawny Select-A-Size, but my local store stopped selling them in 3 packs and only sells them in 8 packs now and I don't have room to store all those rolls. So now we use the Great Value Strong paper towels in the Select-A-Size and they're almost as good.
Viva!
Called it!!
Bounty is my favorite paper towel too !!!!
Bounty in full sheets (not the “select-a-size”) is definitely the best and very hard to find now during the pandemic.
The Coch brothers thank you.
I don't know when this test took place, but Bounty has recently, (cupla months ago) made their sheets twenty five percent smaller AND increased the price.
Viva orig fabric style soaks more bounty. I take care of sick foster cats and viva out shines bounty for these types of messes. But even better is the blue shop towels, but they are more expensive.
i always use viva, but if i (get to) run out i get to whip out the shop towels!
Love Bounty, it is the only kind I will buy.
Hi, I agree too! How do the blue disposable shop towels fair I this test? I’ve found that they are even washable!!
Hi baire702,
Me too.
@@BROUBoomer no sense in wasting if there’s a way to use it again. You stay safe too.
I guess they don’t test Kirkland (Costco) brand, which are great...Bounty is my favorite, but the Kirkland is fantastic...curious why ATC doesn’t ever include Costco/Kirkland brands?
we need tea towels!
My grandma was right. I've been using for years.
I use Bounty for fifty years, then discovered Viva, through a client, and I've never gone back. It's Viva for me now.
Now you know why we use Bounty Select a size.
Thank you! 🤗 I too concluded the same, and do not flush cause they will clog the toilet😖
Kirkland brand from Costco.
I find the Walmart brand "ultra stong" towels are 9/10's the same as bounty for a few cents less per square foot.
For ONCE, they picked what I buy!! However, I never pay $2.50 a roll.
Bounty soaks right through, Viva feels more like a towel.
Bell peppers in Europe are about $1.20 for a pack of 3 mixed colors or 5 green.
don't complain....a gallon of whole milk in Unalakleet Alaska is $18.00
@@toolmanthetim7042 Hi,
Wow! Here in Central Florida it's between $3 & $4 for a gallon of whole milk. Couple days ago I got a half gallon of whole milk for $1.79; I guess I'll stop complaining about it now.
Take care, stay safe.☺️✌️☮️🖖😷
But did they test them all on cleaning up cat barf? half sheet Viva does the job.
Bounty streaks windows Brawny doesn't. Like them both.
Agree Bounty is top tier, but Costco’s Kirkland towels are virtually identical in quality at a much better price.
I used to buy the target store brand, they are tough but expensive.
