What an incredible machine! It's amazing how long it can take to find the right tolerances when working with CNC, I can definitely see there have been weeks of work in this thing. Can't wait to see it and meet you at Makers Central!
That Bernie is a work of art... we seen it at makers central and it was amazing, I can’t believe we only just watched the video. Very informative video. Well done. 👍🏻😊
Works by Solo Hi Bernie, yeah we were a bit late with that one, 😂😂, I always wondered how you did it and it was great to watch. Look forward to meeting you at makers central. 👍🏻😊
Bernie, wow! What an awesome video....I don't think most people will realize just how much work went into this. Between the complexity of the project, and the thoughtful and impressive production and editing, I can tell this one was a labor of love that took months to produce. Well done!
After carving your words, spray a light coat of shellac or lacquer. Then, spray the red paint. That seems to help it not bleed so badly. Also, Gorilla tape is your friend with "weeding" those little pieces. It works so well! I've been using that on some laser engravings recently. Man, I love your tinkering desk! Great video, Bernie! Enjoyed that!
Really loving the elegance of that contraption. For the painting thing, I've heard a lot of people talking about Oramask. I'll also say that sealing the front face with some shellac or poly will help prevent paint from seeping through the grain laterally. Enjoy Maker Central, I'll be over here suffering from #FOMO.
That machine is AMAZING and AWESOME!!! And your video on how you made it is super great too. I am heading to England, from Denver, in six days. I will be holding a flower making workshop at Makers Central. If you aren’t too busy, please, please stop by my booth /stand, I’d really like to meet you. PS. Glad to know it’s not just us women who have discovered how easy it is to shop on Amazon.
Thank you! I want to learn to make flowers too! If you don't see me, please DM to track me down. Meeting new friends is my primary goal of these trips.
I loved watching the machine at Makers Central, sorry we didn't get chance to meet. Maybe next year pal. Such a lot of work in such a modern mechanical marvel.👊👊👊
Thank you for watching and the compliments! That event was amazing with so many people to talk with. Yes, let’s be sure to meet up next year for sure!😀👍🏼
Awesome video: 6:25 - Since you asked: I pre-finish with 1-2 coats of urethane, then I apply Oramask (or blue tape- if I'm feeling cheap), then I carve... then paint... then remove the Oramask. Works very well Sometimes I just skip the Oramask and the tape... then I just sand off the overspray with the "pre-finish" as it acts as a sealer so no paint gets in the grain lines and helps reduce tearout a bit too.... Love the project.
This turned out exactly as I had expected. Fantastic. I should be able to let you know later today on acrylic. Got everything in yesterday. See you next Wednesday!
Wow! one of my first comments. Thank you soooo much for supporting these crazy endeavors of mine, and pushing me to work out those last few annoying kinks in this contraption.😍
I just gave you the 255 th like! And I have loved all the work that you've done in the past. This video and project is very underrated! I have been a machinist since 2004 and this is awesome and that's coming from someone who has cut gears out of steel and acrylic. Keep up the good work and oh yeah I own a Shapeoko 3 that I've had and used for probably 5 years now so yes I would love to do this project for sure. I've also bought from Mcmaster Carr for years and love they're service. Keep it up!
Thank you for your comments and compliments. It’s much appreciated. I’ve taken a break from RUclips, but I’m planning to get back to it soon with many new projects. Please stay tuned! :)
Eloy, Thanks man! Believe it or not, you sir are one of the amazing people in the Maker community that keep that fire burning under my butt to keep hustling. You are awesome!
Wow what a cool project, thanks for sharing! I was in FIRST when I was in high school and the experience was incredible...Id love to go work on a team here in Denver... and I think I will!
Drew! Thanks! Yes, sure thing. I have found that if we teach others things that we are just learning ourselves, it really helps the knowledge sink in for both people. :)
Dude, this is fantastic! And not just the project, the video too. Love your style. As for masking, I can’t stand painters tape. One alternative is Oramask 813, or standard paint mask by Avery. A lot of CNCers swear by a couple coats of sanding sealer, then carve, then paint and wipe while wet, and sand the surface after drying. Personally that’s too much work for me, so I mask.
YES! Please keep in touch with me on this. It may take me a while to get all of the files and instructions together. I've already mentioned this idea to Zach from Inventables. He likes the idea!
Knowing this is a pretty old video; Your gear motor links are no longer valid. Other motors are out there -- What is the rpm of the motor you used? Thanks for making the plans & materials list available.
I enjoy your videos-- Thanks for sharing. Can you tell me about your CNC router? I am a mentor with an FRC team here in North Carolina and we are considering buying a CNC for our shop. I'm interested in hearing about what you've got and your thoughts on how well it works for an FRC build space.
Thank you for watching! My CNC machine is from “CNC Router Parts” www.cncrouterparts.com/. I highly recommend this company for several reasons. Customer support is tops! They offer fully customizable, professional machines at a good price point. I do believe that they have an education program. If you contact them, ask for Cory or Ahren and tell them that I sent you. DM me on Instagram if you’d like to chat more about FRC stuff.

Thank you, James! I look forward to sharing some interesting conversations with you sir! See you in Birmingham!
And me with you too!
That Bernie is a work of art... we seen it at makers central and it was amazing, I can’t believe we only just watched the video. Very informative video. Well done. 👍🏻😊
Hello Stephen and Mark! Thanks for watching. (Better late than never!) I hope to see you guys at Makers Central 2019!
Works by Solo Hi Bernie, yeah we were a bit late with that one, 😂😂, I always wondered how you did it and it was great to watch. Look forward to meeting you at makers central. 👍🏻😊

Mike, you know it! I lost track of the time, but I felt it was something I had to pursue. Thanks!
Your projects and videos are amazing. Why your channel hasn't exploded is beyond me.
Thank you! I'm planning to get more content flowing consistently. I have many projects in the works. I'm sure it will grow as I add value to it.
Super nice video production & channel! It was nice meeting you in Birmingham. Cheers! -Harri
Thanks for watching and hope to see you again next year.

Loved seeing all the inner workings come together into an awesome little machine. Great job.👍
I really enjoy designing and building mechanisms. Thanks for watching and stay tuned for more.

Thanks! Haha! You’re going to MFBA, right?
Great build. Enjoy the maker central!
Thanks, Hugo! So, when will we have a chance to meet again?
Bernie - SO COOL! This definitely has me all "GEARED UP" for the Bay Area Makers Faire May 18 - 20th....woooo WOOOOOOO!
Hello Stan! Thanks! Looking forward to seeing you again!
This is astounding. Well done!
Thanks!
Wow... this blew my mind, turned out really nice! The movement is really cool how it never turns the opposite direction. Lots of precision!
Thank you for watching and commenting. Yes, it took a few versions to get it right! Please share!
Great project! Thanks for taking the time to make and film it. Subscribed.
Thanks for the sub!
Love it Bernie!!!!!!
Thanks Brian! Are you going to Maker Faire Bay Area?
Thank you for serving such a great work. Hoping to learn the skills that you have. Continue to inspire us.
Thanks! Stay tuned. I have plans for much more content.

Are you on InstaGram? If so, DM on there.
That's awesome. I would have loved to have been able to watch it move for more than 4 seconds each time you showed it running. But it's awesome.
Thanks for the suggestion. I noticed that too. I plan to spend more time showing the finished subject in future videos. Stay tuned!!
No words... Just amazing
Thank you!
That’s marvellous! Saw it on Nick’s channel, I love it. Nice work Bernie. 👍🏻
Thanks! I was super excited that he featured it in the waffle.
Awesome project Bernie!!! You always make the coolest stuff.
Thanks Greg! Hey, you going to Maker Faire Bay Area?

Yes, I asked because I like doing this technique, but found some frustrations in the way i've been approaching it. Thanks!

ManCraftingTM Frekin Jealous you guys!!!
Chad, that's great! I know you're busy, so thanks for sticking with it! See you in England!
Brian! Are you going to Maker Faire Bay Area?
WoodenCreationz I wish you were coming too buddy. Maybe next time you can get a sponsor to pay the way. 😉
Holy cow!!! This is AWESOME!
Wow! one of my first comments. Thank you soooo much for supporting these crazy endeavors of mine, and pushing me to work out those last few annoying kinks in this contraption.😍
That is epic Bernie! See you at MC
Thanks, Karol! See you there!
Great project, and a fun video to watch!

Eloy, Thanks man! Believe it or not, you sir are one of the amazing people in the Maker community that keep that fire burning under my butt to keep hustling. You are awesome!
Thank you for including where you got the matierials. It is very informative.
Wow what a cool project, thanks for sharing! I was in FIRST when I was in high school and the experience was incredible...Id love to go work on a team here in Denver... and I think I will!
Thanks! Go for it! Being a mentor is just as rewarding for you as it is for the students.
Great ASMR!
Great video and a very creative idea for the machine. 👍
Thanks! I love design problems.
Cool project, great video !
Thanks for taking the time to watch and comment. More to come.
This is very cool. Awesome work Bernie maybe in England you can give me some pointer on fusion still a little lost on it

That's good info. I really want to do more of this type projects Thanks!
I wonder if some type of transfer tape from a place like Johnson Plastics would work well? There are a lot of people using lasers that swear by it.
Good idea!
Awesome I will have to make one ( I have the xcarve) but after makers central 😊

Too many product placements, feels like watching non-stop ads :-(
Frank Thanks for the comments. Which product do you think was mentioned too much? Was it Fusion 360?
Really? I am not going to list them all again, you have done this at length...
Okay, well at least I know that you noticed them. Thanks!
