Minus the platform Cole has. I had felt like that for a long time. Even sayin it to some of my dudes in a convo about why I don’t listen to a lot of new music.
+Illmatic Junkie Nas - GOAT. Cole - Mainstream hip hop twerking music, not even close to best of our generation. Best of generation is either Eminem or Kendrick Lamar. Learn about hip hop bro.

+Esh Sh Dont DIsrespect this dude by making completely false generalizations. You obviously don't know hip hop yourself. Listen to a song before you judge.
J. Cole was like a kid in a candy store when talking about Nas, that's how you know you've made a great impact on someone's life, Big ups to Nas. I'm a fan of J. Cole to I wish him the best in his career, keep dropping gems and putting out great albums my man
I love how disorganized it is. It seems like he just gave himself bullet points and the rest was on the spot. Really shows how passionate he is, how he can speak candidly about it.
Imagine that ONE response from Nas completely changed the trajectory of J Cole's career/art. Not even a track or whatever just a 2nd hand response. While the industry was happy to suppress and capitalise off J’s talent, Nas was being a big brother reminding him its best to be yourself and trust your art. It's like it unlocked something in him. Some of our young boys need that big brother reinforcement; speak life in to brother.
yea he can sign j cole and do what with j cole make him a one hit wonder like quan..listen jay z is a business man thats why j cole pick to sign with him even though nas is his favorite rapper ..business is business
Spoken like a true fan. His enthusiasm and the way he told his story of becoming the biggest fan of Nas he could be just your typical fan of great music and Nas most definitely has great fucking music. Love both Nas and Cole.
I will NEVER forget being a Senior in Highschool in 1999 in the Bay Area, and listening to the "I Am" album, sittin in cars with the music blastin....from Still Survive, to Ghetto Prisoners...those records have sweet nostalgic memories of potent lyrics that I will Never forget! Much love Nasir Jones for teaching me about the poetry of life
Undying Love is one of the greatest songs of all time but yet not appreciated by the masses for some reason real hip hop heads know big ups to cole for that
I feel the same way! I tried to tell my mom back then, so what they are cursing you are just looking for the bad when there is so much good in these jewels they drop. Rap raised a lot of kids, whether they took the gangsta route, or they they listened to those stories and vowed not to repeat the same mistakes. Salute to HIP HOP! I fucking love this culture
FabyBaby 36 Crazy I just read this. I Gave You Power is my favorite shit. That's the song I woulda went up on stage rappin' if I was in Cole's position.
This probably the closest I've ever heard anyone express the kind of admiration and love for Nas that I have. If weren't for Nas I probably wouldn't be rapping
Man...I just sat and watched this in complete silence. I'm 28 going on 29 years old so me ans Cole are probably around the same age. I like Cole never had no farther figure growing up but like him, i found insight in Hiphop/rap music. I too became a big 2pac fan at around 10-11 years old but not for the same reason as Cole but because of his style and image and of course his classic album All Eyez On Me. After that i knew i discovered something that i really cared about and that being music of course, music was always being played since the start but this type of music was for the young black minority and i had to be apart of it. Like Cole i missed out on Illmatic and for awhile i actually thought It Was Written was his first album, by this time, like Cole mentioned in my own school we were picking sides. I didn't sign with Nas though it was Jay-Z but i respected Nas's lycrism but for me and even to this day Jay-Z remains my favourite rapper. Me and my school friends would argue very chance we could about who was better this continued into college. As i got into my mid teens i started listening to Nas a lot more, i bonded with his music like i did with Jay-Z but i felt my life struggles was similar to the metaphors and similees that Nas was spitting. I think without Nas's music, I may not of ever discovered who i truly was as a rap fan, hiphop was the only male voice in my household growing up, i ain't the type of guy to just listen to anything it has to be meaningful. I think what Nas has done by educating the youth via music should be an inspiration to us all. Peace king.
Rakim and Nas are the same person to me. Their music helped me steer clear of trouble. I heard the gangsta rap too. But I wanted to stay out of prison so I followed the positive energy of these 2 great artists. I'm damn near 50 still listening to CDs in my car. And just today I was listening to Rakim's Seventh Seal album.
Had to come back to this, hadnt seen it since it initially came out, this is what makes Cole special, and he will be amongst the greats like Nas when it's all said and done
Im 27 and J cole and Nas, along with a few others have rekindled my interest in things, I got back to reading and Im rapping and writing even if its for me because I’m at a place in my life where I had to leave my life behind and am starting anew. Maybe I can’t become a rapper but I just enjoy it so much I never stop getting that sweet therapy ❤️

Nas inspired modern day lyrical rappers like J Cole, Lupe Fiasco, Fashawn, Joey Badass and even Kendrick Lamar (who is a Tupac fan) like Cole was.
Sir Emet 'TheMostHated' Nas was also a Pac fan
“Name a rapper I ain’t influenced!”- nas
