If you have the software and cable you do not need a spark checker, or to pull the plug. You just trigger the ignition test in the program, lean in close to the head and you can hear the spark occurring. If you don't have battery cables and it is strictly a pull start, you can make a simple power cable to go directly to a 12 volt source to power up the emm. Just google pull start emm powerup.
Hello.. The line coming to one injector of the 30 hp etech engine is not working. ecu is solid. There is a problem with the electrical installation. I wonder which cables should I look at? Can you please help?
It has been stated many times on the Etec Owners Group that doing this can kill the EMM (the engine computer). It's supposed to be caused by the EMI (electro-magnetic interference) emitted by the spark. I do consider it a terrible design when simply testing a spark plug outside the cylinder can kill an EMM (haven't heard of that happening on a car) but that won't change the fact that an owner could be forking out a couple of thousand dollars for simply "testing" the spark.
