The commentary in these is also golden. Bisping’s “can’t stay in the pocket like that” and than Weili just mauls Andrade and the “no, can’t throw her” from Cruz just a split second before Rose’s head gets slammed in the canvas. 🔥
And Anik's "you gotta be careful hanging out in the pocket against Jedrzejczyk" right before Namajunas knocks her out. This sport is the worst thing for betting.
Mark Smith deserves so much credit. At 0:58, he motions to the replay officials to start looking at that kick. It was close to being illegal. He knows the fight is likely over, but to be so aware to not only call for a replay review, but to let the fight keep going in case it’s not over yet is incredible.
The overhand right while falling down from Weili when she won the title never gets old. The whole barrage of punches and then this vicious punch on Andrade really sealed the deal
As many times as I've seen it, I couldn't help but think "sure looks like a lot of elbows to the back of the head..." when I watched it this time. Not sure why I never noticed before.
Joanna finishing Esparza was magical at the time. It truly showed the gap between her and the rest of the division at the time. She set the standard at 115.
To me it feels like, before JJ, women MMA fighters mostly pawed at each other with arm punches. I mean, as a 200 lb man I think I would feel safe letting any of these tiny little women hit me and I could shrug it off. Then came JJ, and Andrade, and Weili, not to mention bigger women like Cyborg and Amanda. When the modern generation of female MMA fighters punch, they're basically guys. Do I still think I can laugh it off if someone like Andrade or Weili hit me? Nope. Now I would run, lol
@@Ironfangzu Well Andrade and Cyborg probably have higher testosterone levels than you or me, so it's kind of understandable. Actually Joanna hit harder early on than you see here. I think she had some hand issues because of how hard she was hitting and back off. Look up her early fight with Rosie Sexton, where she was just completely throwing bombs way above her weight class.
That season of TUF for the women's 115lb title was a bit unfair, whoever won was just cannon fodder for Joanna who was by far the best female fighter at Strawweight. I give Carla credit for being tenacious and eventually coming back and winning the title again.
Namajunas beating Joanna in their first fight is my all time favourite UFC moment. Rose was a massive underdog and Joanna was unbearably arrogant and bullish all week in build up but Rose got it done against the strawweight queen, who at the time looked unbeatable and had a crazy win streak.

Joanna's body language in her rematch with Zhang speaks volumes. Her love of fighting is gone. As she started she's interested in other things. It's so clear that she did this out of pure obligation. Happy Retirement, JJ.
Maybe but another case could be that weili improved an insane amount, even though she lost her rematch with rose but her performance in the rematch showed how much she improved especially her ground game.
In their first fight JJ probably outstruck Weili by something like 55-45. But when Weili hit JJ, every time, it probably hurt like hell. Like anyone with a champion's heart, of course JJ went back into the cage for a rematch with Weili. But she already knew, going in, that she was going to get hurt bad, because she knew Weili hits like a truck. As it turned out, it was very one sided. Weili got much better, and stronger, and JJ was kind of checked out emotionally. No surprise it ended the way it did. Weili was much stronger, more skilled this time, and she wanted it a lot more.
