Memories. We went to visit my nan and grandad who were on holiday in Weston Super Mare. I’m guessing 1990-91? I took grandad into town and convinced him to buy me DD for my GameBoy. He moaned afterwards that I’d conned him but I knew he was loaded lol but never liked parting with cash. The way I saw it he took me cousin on cruises on QE2 so what’s the price of a game😂 and no i wasn’t a spoiled kid I knew it cost mum and dad a lot to get me a GameBoy for Xmas so wasn’t going to ask them to buy it me. Anyway… trip down memory lane. I remember all the music, the end of level bad guy music etc… and was good as I could swap DD with school friends for games they had. Such happy innocent days and memories as a kid just coming into teenage.
My thoughts: 21:32 _All right, there's Willy; the meanest dude in the whole game! This is going to be an _*_intense_*_ final boss fight!..._ 21:35 (Punch, punch, punch, uppercut...Willy falls down the spike pit) 21:37 _Ummm...that's _*_it_*_?_
I couldn't believe it what I just saw either?! After such a long journey and that's how he went down but hey what a fitting death after all that?! I wonder if that punch, punch, punch & uppercut combo will work on any other versions of him in other versions of DD1 near a spike floor?!...
Games back then were hard AF! I used to never be able to get past the first boss as a kid. Getting better and better at the game over time has been really rewarding. The challenge and intensity when you’ve made it all the way to the last level with NO lives left and everything is on the line! 😍
Never passed the final Boss... I broke my GB because of this game when i was 12. Too much rage 🤬🤬🤬And u kill the last boss in a one shot...😳😳😳 GG. Happy to have see the end. Thx Bro !!!👍
I used to play this game a lot when I was a child. Thanks to you, I finally saw the ending!! The ending-wise, wow, the director of this game also made background images? This game was made by one programmer? Almost like an indies game today!
the title screen music is replicated so well comparing to nes version, even for the bpm and the sound design changes up a bit. Everytime it started, tear started to appear in my eyes. This bit of music hits me hard
marlb0r015 I actually just bought it on eBay yesterday after watching the video I'm surprised that the gameboy version looks and sounds this good if you know what I mean :) :) I hope you have a great day God bless you sir Jeremy Scruggs
OMG IVE BEEN TRYING TO FIND THIS GAME FOR SOOO LONG. I couldn't remember the name of it and I just had to find it cause I have so many memories of playing this.
I remember how this game was one of the many Game Boy games we received with our Game Boy when we got it for Christmas in 1994 (along with a few others - Castlevania II: Belmont's Revenge, Kirby's Dreamland, and World Circuit Series). Man, I could NEVER get past the first level since Abobo was a toughie.
I’m glad this version did away with the silly hearts you had to earn in the NES version. These guys are martial arts masters but they have to beat up X number of thugs before remembering how to kick while jumping 😂
This one of the first games I ever legitimately beat without using a code or Game Genie. It always bothered me that it didn't have the pin attack from the NES version, but looking back on it, this might actually be the better game. I played through both recently, and had more fun with this version. Its only real drawback is being a bit slower.
Tried to order this today on Lukie Games but out of stock FFFFFFFFF. Anyway good video man. Love the retro stuff. Makes me feel like a kid again. Im knocking on 30 and this stuff makes me feel good.
Such a fun game, and the music is awesome. Part of me wishes I had the Gen1 Game Boy, then I remember how "portable" that system was. Could barely fit it into your back pocket, without ripping said pocket, and if you did manage to get it in the damn thing would worm it's way out with every step you took...so you had to keep pushing it back down. And If you ran, well, there went the Game Brick, flying out of your pocket... and onto the sidewalk. :( Nice playthrough, thanks!
I remember when I first played this game I had trouble beating the first boss. Then after a while I finally defended him. But I never got past the 3rd mission, I always die at the end on the jumping part. I finally got to see the ending lol
Ok the little BS hat trick at 14:41-14:54 gets me every single time. It got me back when I was a kid and I played this game on a daily basis and it gets me now, at 32 yrs old. I am a fucking master at every stage up until this point and then I reach this ridiculous area that turns the game from a fighting game to an unfair platformer (complete with lag delays and trouble seeing the platform your going to jump to next) I only recently got serious about finally beating this game, it is a goal I have along with finally beating another super hard action game for gameboy "Star Wars" (That Game Is Brutality At Its Worse)
Such a great game. One thing I've been wondering for years. Instruction booklet of game features some screenshots from game. On industrial stages screenshot there's two men on conveyor belts while players character is jumping on middle platform. Well, as we can see here, it's not like that, there's actually no one on those conveyor belts. Setup is always same also when I play this game, EXCEPT if I can recall correctly, first time ever I got to second stage the game characters were exactly like on instruction booklet which is REALLY strange because after that one time it has been always like in this video. I've been wondering since that if it's possible to play somehow differently to have different enemy setup on that exact place.
Now that you mention it, I remember the booklet showing a screenshot with opponents at a place that's not possible in the game. I don't think I saw them do this even once, though.
Holy cow I have found one of my childhood games. Never knew what this was called. I could never beat the final big macho guy on the first level. Thanks for this!
This game was just unnecessarily difficult, especially as a child. I just completed after 30 years as an adult on a PC emulator using multiple save states. Ludicrous difficulty.
Games back then were hard AF! I use to never be able to get past the first boss as a kid. Getting better and better at the game over time has been really rewarding. The challenge and intensity when you’ve made it all the way to the last level with NO lives left and everything is on the line! Good times 😍
@@Eric-10101 I remember playing it as a 7 year old in the car next to my Mum - full on tantrums! Same thing with the end of Super Mario Land. At least Links Awakening had save points.
This was such a fun game - classic handheld gaming right here! Gotta say though, the developers take far too many liberties with the level design, especially in the final two levels. Evading boulders? Jumping onto moving platforms above a lava pit? Falling stalactites? The arcade didn't have any of that 🤣🤣
That's kinda debatable here but both versions try to follow the arcade version but both go their own ways based off the strengths and weaknesses of the consoles in general but I do like the musical score on the Game Boy slightly more.
cosmicfish1000 both are very good, but i prefer the first one. A bit tougher and better music :) but either one, you can't go wrong... the 3rd however is not so great unfortunately on the game boy (although i still kinda like that one too haha, but for all the wrong reasons)
This game is a deception itself. It starts out as a light version for the NES but as soon as you reach the boss and he just destroys you and you think that the developers have deceived you. I can imagine those people who bought this game then.
And all this time I thought I was getting close to beating it, turns out I only ever got about 11 minutes in as per this video! Those big boss guys always annoy me, they're too damn strong
Okay update, I got to 14:50-ish today! It's been a long time but I may finally be able to beat this game. For the first time I just figured out how to beat Abobo today!
I played the NES version to this game on the switch and the GB version on the 3DS, the GB version was hard due to the first boss abobo but manage to defeat him and complete the game
The part with pushing blocks before the final boss is such bullshit, there's no pattern, just random, it can screw you so badly if you got unlucky during your playthrough....
Entertaining game and nice port for the gameboy, some parts are tedious even knowing how to beat the enemies and their attack patterns, but mostly i had problems with the jumps on the final levels, not really a big problem. The final boss was a bit disappointing (even with killing him in the normal way) compared to other enemies. Beyond that, the soundtrack is good and similar to its counterparts. For being one of the first titles released for the gameboy, they adapted the game well, even though is kinda slow compared to the nes one.
Holy hell it that easy to beat Machine Gun Wily by just punching him a couple of times and uppercut into the spikes bellow?! I mean seriously, how was my 10 year old self going to figure out that logic in 1989 huh?! For as broken as D.D1 was sometimes?! I still like it but I could never pass those skull spiked closet doors sigh...
Finally after 30 years i get to see how this game ends. Thank you! Allways died at boss 3. Now I can get on with my life
HA!!! same!!!!
Yeah that's the farthest I ever got too.
Same!
I liked this player, I recommend this channel that I subscribed to.
Same hahahaha
I might cry man this brings me way back. my mom had to beat the first boss for me too lol
I still remember his name is Abobo from the instruction manual.
My kids will remember me beating luigi's mansion and super mario 3D world for them
Classic game
My mom worked hard to buy me a Gameboy and this was my favourite game. Damn first Abobo though, so tough!
@@Svoorhout85Correct. His look alikes are just that. There is only one Abobo. He has a mohawk with spiked wristbands.
the music bring back memeories
I remember playing this game on my brothers gameboy back in the early 90s
same here . And dont forget the 50 or more games in 1 card , many of them are good games to kill the time that time :)
I never went any further than the lava jumps at 14:39 (mission 3), and I had the game for years!
I don't pass the same obstacle. Playing now 😢.
I was always stuck on that part the trick is to jump as the platform is coming towards you timing is key

Sweet childhood memories... I played it when I visited my two years older cousin, he always had some cool and interesting stuff.
Man this game was a pain. Seeing all this brings back so much I went through with it. Despite how hard it was, I enjoyed it in a way.
Ordering this tomorrow. Love this game and will be a forever keeper.
I still have this game.So many memories growing with this, the NES version and 2-3 for the NES.Great time to be a kid....:*D
This game will always have a place in my heart 😍 The graphics, the music, the difficulty, everything! Love it so much ☺️

Funny thing is: this cheat works exactly like that in the arcade version.
This game, along many others, saw me grow up.

You have to go near the platforms so the screen will 'move forward'. Then you can jump properly and not be held back.
