Adam, thank you so much for helping me wire my rotary switch. This video is excellent and I was 90% sure I could wire it from that but that 10% was troubling me. The wiring schematic you responded with worked perfectly. What a blessing blessing to have someone who will share their time and knowledge to help others! Thanks again.

Hi, I have a milling machine I would like to wire for 220 volts. Currently the motor is wired for 110. It also has a drum switch for forward and reverse. The motor is a 2 Hp, dual voltage induction motor. Your video almost helped me, but seems to be a bit different set up. I have had two electricians out to help, but both of them were stumped. If you can help I would appreciate it! I can send you pictures of the motor plate, wiring diagram on the motor cover, terminal block on the motor, as well as the drum switch. I do understand the wiring diagram for the motor, but it doesn’t take in account the drum switch. Thanks!
Is it possible for me to use drum switch for a DC motor situation? I want to use a drum switch to operate a winch system on my trailer rather than a solenoid. The winch operates a heavy ramp/tail gate that goes up and down, so I want it to be able to go in both directions.
It is possible but due to the typically high amperage of dc voltage there is heavy arcing when switching and it tends to ruin the contact points fairly quickly
Great explanation thank you. Can I take you up on offer to help me understand the wiring on my particular 2hp 4p 220v 1phase motor? Not sure how to email you via youtube.
I think i need help. i have the same drum switch and a standard non-reversable motor i am using 110V that only has 3 connections on the motor,i would like to wire it to turn it off/on i have a 14 guage plug to drum switch wire and 12 guage 4 wire from motor to drum switch, would it be simpler to use a regular light switch instead of the drun switch? How do the wires go?

I have a split phase 1/3 hp motor, it has 2 lugs for power and a red and a black wire that can be swapped to run in reverse, 4 wires total. I need to wire this into a Furnas R1-A 6 pole drum switch. I’m using 120 volts. I used to think I was semi-intelligent but you model with all the wires gave me a figurative headache. Any help would be appreciated.
I would need to see the wiring setup, on winches you typically run the wires from the sylinoids up to the switch and the main power just turns the motor on and off
How do u do it 115volts. I am using grid to start my 1/1/2 horse motor then switch to my 3000watt inverter. How will I connect that up the motor only is going clockwise not reversing.

The switch contacts on the relays are normaly open and normaly close. I want to send a picture but i dont. see how. Thank you in afvangen
Wrong! L1 and K2 are connect with 2 wires to the motor in both positions so they can be both on one terminal and the two wires that change will by themselves so you will only use 8 terminals.
Very true, there are a few ways to wire it, people who have little experience wiring seem to find it easier to follow if all the leads go to the switch so that’s why I tend to show it that way as it is easier for them.
