You wouldn't need an additional preamp with the DAC502. In most cases, I would recommend getting a separate streamer, since DAC502's streaming capability is somewhat limited.
Yes, so I've tested it with a separate preamp, and simply left the level control at 0 dB and used the output setting to match the correct voltage per the manual: XLR 0dB setting: 6.8 Vrms +18.9 dBu • -10dB setting: 2.2 Vrms +8.9 dBu • -20dB setting: 0.68 Vrms -1.1 dBu • -30dB setting: 0.22 Vrms -11.1 dBu RCA 0dB setting: 3.4 Vrms +12.9 dBu • -10dB setting: 1.1 Vrms +2.9 dBu • -20dB setting: 0.34 Vrms -7.1 dBu • -30dB setting: 0.11 Vrms -17.1 dBu
Great video, and respect to Bloom Audio for carrying this brand.
Would you suggest a preamp and additional high end streamer? Great review, thanks!

Steve, Can you disable the volume control and just use your own preamp?
Yes, so I've tested it with a separate preamp, and simply left the level control at 0 dB and used the output setting to match the correct voltage per the manual:

• -10dB setting: 2.2 Vrms +8.9 dBu
• -20dB setting: 0.68 Vrms -1.1 dBu
• -30dB setting: 0.22 Vrms -11.1 dBu
RCA
0dB setting: 3.4 Vrms +12.9 dBu
• -10dB setting: 1.1 Vrms +2.9 dBu
• -20dB setting: 0.34 Vrms -7.1 dBu
