    Hi guys 114 bends in the road here we go hout Bay views great. Plenty of tourists can only be good for the country. Love the quip about the documents had the same problem yesterday with my wife in hospital car park lol efforts to keep the road secure are a credit to the country the overhangs reminds me of Italy can you imagine riding along the beautiful beach amazing and the stables my favourite sidecar .lovely horses like the joke a guy asks directions in Ireland where's the nearest pub the Irish guy says the harp is 1mile away and shamrock is 1mile that way the guy asks witch ones the nearest oh the harp he says lol lovely beach nice and quiet thanks for taking me on one of the best scenic roads in the world cheerio till the next one

      Yup, I found the 114 bends quite interesting and it made me realise how much of an engineering marvel that road actually is! 😎 I hope all is well with the Mrs after the visit to the hospital yesterday. Please convey our best wishes. 🤗 I chuckled at your anecdote about the guy asking for directions in Ireland, too funny! 🤣☘️ I thought you might enjoy the sidecar again. I'll never look at a sidecar quite the same again! I'll always picture your granny with her hat off to church! 😁🚗

    What a beautiful drive this Chapman's Peak is...but my first Argus Cycle Tour somewhere before 1998 will forever be implanted in my brain. My first Argus..I did 6 only.. at about 19:40 in you video just at that horses sign in Noordhoek my chain broke. So I had to walk the bicycle from there the whole of Chapman's Peak...free at the downhills into Hout Bay where they repaired the chain...just before Suikerbossie. What made things worse was the night before I hit my little toe on the corner of a cupboard and it was standing sort of like a Y next to the other toe! I think I walked for 1 1/2 hours...I think I must get into my car and drive that route again...here we live 30km from Cape Town and when last have I been there and it is just so beautiful...thanx for showing it again. You 2 rock!

    • @DustBugsTravel
      @DustBugsTravel  2 года назад +2

      Glad you enjoyed it! Your Argus experience certainly sounds traumatic enough for you to still remember the finest detail, right down to the Y-toe! 🤣 I don't mean to laugh because I know how painful an injured little toe can be, but the thought of you having to push your bicycle with the toe which must've been throbbing at that point, is kind of funny in an evil way! 😈 But I immediately take my hat off to you for having done six races, that is truly an achievement of note! 🥇🚴🏻 Thanks for sharing those memories with us, I enjoyed reading that! You're so right, us who live here don't go and see the beauty of our area often enough. We drove Chappies in 2021, but before that I can't even remember when last. I hope you'll jump into the Toyota (either one) and hit the road in that direction soon. Leave the bicycle at home this time. Enjoy! 😁🚗

    Got to be one of the most beautiful drives in the world. But not for someone who gets carsick! Talk about an attack of the Bends! Two of my children got very carsick, not nice!! R57 now! When Roger and I were around there we would moan at R20. We were still lucky. Such a beautiful view of the Sentinel! Now that is a painting. Noordhoek is another beautiful memory for me and my Beloved. We went there for lunch at one of the lovely restaurants for a weekend treat. Those horses you saw are part of a riding school. There are quite a few of them out there. We often visited the farm village, which has a lot of craft shops worth looking at. Noordhoek is a lovely beach to take a nice long walk, but dont go when the wind gets up, unless you like being sandblasted. Instant exfoliation😅🤣

    • @DustBugsTravel
      @DustBugsTravel  2 года назад +2

      Well, judging by the number of tourists we saw in the time we were on Chapman's Peak Drive, the beauty and splendour of the area are certainly admired by people from all over the globe, so it must be kind of special! 🤩⛰️ I can only imagine carsick experiences on that road can be a rather harrowing affair! 🤢 I'm glad you found your first painting on Chapman's Peak, albeit of the view from there. 👌 We thought the horses that were being led around, must be from a riding school and I think I zoomed in on one such one from the top of Chapman's Peak. Super cool to always see horses when driving through Noordhoek, we just love that! 🐎 Thanks for taking this trip down memory lane with us today! 😍🚗

    Hi you two! Thank you for taking me along right through to Noordhoek.
    A few decades ago I lived in Greenpoint for parts of a year or two (for work) and on Saturdays would take my bicycle on that road, but only to Hout Bay and back (no toll gates). I can still vaguely recognise some of the scenery, but at the time I needed my eyes and energy for the road.
    Now I could enjoy the stunning cliffs, beaches, sea and greenery without distraction
    That Noordhoek beach is really out of this world!
    Please note that I'm holding my breath for the next outing, so don't take too long!😚
    Stay safe!

I would huff and puff so much I wouldn't even look left or right, so I totally get it that you couldn't exactly admire the scenery on those rides! • @DustBugsTravel
      @DustBugsTravel  2 года назад +2

      Thank you, that's a big compliment! 😊 I'm so glad to hear you enjoy our videos so much. I would imagine your ultimate choice would depend greatly on how often you need to be in the CBD for the High Court or if you'll work remotely most of the time. Also whether you have pets and if you enjoy being physically active. Sea Point is a good option for close to town, but still having amazing beaches and green spaces to walk, run, kayak and all that good stuff! 🚣‍♀️🚶‍♀️ It'll be a bit of a trek from some areas to get to town and traffic can be rough at times, so that'll always be a consideration too. You've got some research to do and I hope you'll visit yourself too for a week or two to check out the places and feel the vibe. A lot depends on where you'll feel most at home and happiest. Good luck, exciting times ahead for you! 🤩⛰️🌊

    At 13:26 two new BMW 7 Series models drive by in the opposite direction. Since it's local launch is said to be in the fourth quarter of this year, it seems to be that they are using these cars for promotional shoots. I often see Western Cape locations being used by the various car manufacturers in their press photos, and Chapman's Peak is one of the more popular locations.

Quite cool that they would use that setting as backdrop, can't blame theml! 😎🚗

    I really appreciate this video! We went for a drive there last year on my 1st visit to SA in a decade, but it was so cloudy that we didn't see much. Do you remember the 80s TV ads featuring Chapman's Peak? 1st Mercedez brought one out, showing how somebody, who crashed down there in a Merc, survived. Then BMW responded by showing their latest model going around the same bend where the Mercedez Benz tumbled down and they commented on their BMW model, "that beats the bends" (Benz)!

    • @DustBugsTravel
      @DustBugsTravel  9 месяцев назад +1

      I clearly remember those ads! 😁 Chapman's Peak remains one of the most spectacular drives in our beautiful country, but one is pretty stuck when it's misty and it's all about visibility there. I'm glad you could take the drive with us! It was pretty cool to see those two new BMW's that day. For all we know, they were in the process of filming a new ad campaign! 🚙⛰️

    You saw a sign for porcupines crossing at night, in Noordhoek. One night on Boyes drive above StJames / Kalkbaai I saw two in the road. It was very strange because they had all their spines erect, so they looked like two people dressed in black & white crawling around, and only as I got closer did I realize what they were.
