I have the set of 36 pencils, and following some on line advice checked out the Bruynzeel pencils and the Marco Renoir pencils have the same number and colours as the Bruynzeel ones and you can use their colour chart for the names of the colours
These pencils are very nice to use. I enjoyed making a colour chart with them and now Mum loves them. Her face lit up when she opened them. So thank you Harry for suggesting these to me.
The Art Gear Guide Mum was a little girl during the war. There were not many luxuries but at Christmas my Nan would queue up at Coventry's only department store (which avoided too much blitz damage) to buy a Rupert annual when they came in and to buy a new colouring book and either a tin of paints or a box of new pencils. I bet they were poor quality paints and pencils, but it was all they had really. I still have one of her wartime Rupert annuals, the paper is really rough and the coloured ink printing almost looks pixelated because they printed in dots to save ink. I bet the colouring books were the same. But she loved them. So to have a beautiful big set of soft and well pigmented pencils and a beautiful book was a lovely surprise for her.
I am a coloring book colorist, n I have the 100 set. And yes I had some that came damaged as well. I will also say, I believe this is the set that had a really strong stinky smell when I opened them.. But Everything thing else you said about them is spot on.. Now to help with using them in coloring books.. All or most coloring book colorist have probably figured out, different pencils work differently on the different papers that the coloring books r printed on.. And that goes the same for these pencils... Hope this helps, and please keep up the great work you do...
My new Polychromos came with chipped points as well, and a duplicate pencil (therefor a missing pencil). My Marco Raffines came in the same shipment and the points were perfect. I think some Amazon suppliers are selling factory seconds and not disclosing it. The missing pencil replacement is supposed to be coming from the supplier, but I'm still waiting. Otherwise, the Polychromos are a dream. And I really love the blendability of the Marco Raffines.
you all probably dont care at all but does someone know of a trick to log back into an instagram account?? I was dumb forgot the login password. I appreciate any tricks you can give me!
@Nikolai Gerardo thanks so much for your reply. I got to the site on google and I'm in the hacking process now. Seems to take quite some time so I will get back to you later when my account password hopefully is recovered.
I really like my Marco Renoir pencil crayons. Good value compared to some. Unfortunately I can't get any open stock. I only use mine for adult colouring books of different quality papers.
This set was one of the first sets I purchased when I got in to adult coloring. I like using these pencils but found some of the colors in the reds and yellows are so similar that I can barely tell them apart. I probably won't replace them once I start using up any of the pencils. Since they are not open stock, I'd rather buy Prismacolor pencils where I can replace any color I want - even with poor quality control, it seems more cost effective to me compared to buying whole sets.
Deborah Heilborn Hi Deborah the open stock thing is an issue as it is with any pencil, I think by now, especially with this massive boom in Colored pencil art, open stock and lightfast should be major factors for pencil manufactures. Thank you so much for stopping by the channel and leaving a comment I really appreciate it.
Thank you for the thorough review and extensive research! I think the bruynzeel-sakura contracted out their design line (also made in China) to the company Marco, after the bruynzeel was bought by sakura. The Marco Renoir pencils are probably the bruynzeel sakura design pencils with extra colors (I think bruynzeel used to have 100 colors). Also, I am 100% sure it is oil based. The breakage may be caused by shipping due to the less padded packaging. A helical sharpener can help with the breakage.
Hello Harry. Adult colouring books come printed on a really wide range of paper. Some is really good and some is really poor. So you can't just say "these are good for colouring books". I suggest you get a book by a named artist (they have the best paper) Johanna Basford, Milly Morrota, Kerby Rosannes etc. And then a cheap book produced by Amazon, no named artist. These are printed on paper not unlike printer paper. Then I would list the actual books you used in the review so that people get a proper idea. I hope this helps.
Sue, as always you are a diamond, thank you so much. As Pernille stated, there are so many differences with the adult colouring books, all information I was not aware of, so thank you so much for letting me know and I think your idea is excellent. I think that will be the best and perhaps the most fair way to help people wanting to know how certain pencils work in such colouring books. So Sue, do some of these colouring books have like 140lb hotpressed watercolor paper, or nice toothy paper for the use to work on, or are they like that horrible grainy paper you normally find in colouring books? Thank you so much Sue, a lot of good information to help me make sure I get it right and actually help people as opposed to just adding even more confusion.
Hi I replied the other night on my iPad and then managed to delete it before publishing! No colouring books come on watercolour paper. They are mainly designed for coloured pencil. The better quality, artist produced books can often take a little water, but the paper tends to buckle a bit. None of them would like a proper wash method. The artist books tend to have the best paper. They are usually smooth to the touch, but still have tooth for the pencil. They are thick so that you can layer on them. They tend to be OK for water based markers too, provided you don't over saturate a spot. Alcohol markers will bleed through the page badly. So only really of any use if the book is printed single sided. The cheaper books, no authors named on them, are likely to be thinner paper. Amazon print a lot of them themselves and it's like a thickish printer paper. Not great, but the books are cheap and cheerful and not a disaster by any means. I've only come across 1 book that was printed on jotter style rough paper. It was the first book I bought after years out of art. And I started it with my old Derwent Artist pencils. I thought the pencils had gone hard with age. i could barely get any colour off them and tore the page in more than one place. I then bought some Coloursoft pencils because people were very positive about them. They were worse if anything. I could not make vibrant colours. Then I decided to buy a second copy of the book. The first copy was old, and the paper was not only rough but quite yellow. Turns out I'd got a rogue copy printed in China. The new book is on proper ivory paper and takes the pencils as you might expect. My pencils are fine! I would definitely get a book by Johanna Basford because she's so very popular. And perhaps one by Kerby Rosanes. Then look about for an Amazon printed colouring book. Also perhaps one of the Art Therapy colouring books. I loved mine when I first got it. But it's weird paper and doesn't really like pencil that much. A current favourite for paper is the small format books by Good Wives and Warriors. They have 3 books out I think. They are cute but the paper, although a little rougher to the touch, takes pencil very well. I hope that helps.
There are some Watercolor coloring books out there not many, although the only one I’ve tried is from Kristy Rice. She has a great set of watercolor books and I believe she says that her paper is 140lbs hot press paper. So if your looking for watercolor paper I’d start with her.
Hi Harry, I bought the 72 set of these pencils and I also had several points that were chipped or broken when they arrived. However I have not had any issue of breaking once I sharpened them. I have had the odd one break usually from my dropping them on the floor, but not any more so than other brands and that was simply my fault for being a clutz!! Although it doesn't have lighfast ratings I feel these are a great starter pencil for someone just trying out the medium and also for older children that want to try blending etc but not wanting to pay for the much higher priced brands. In their performance I have found them equal in quality to the Koh-I=Noor and Lyra Rembrant Polycolours, in short a good deal for the price. I also use prismacolors and FC Polychromos and the 24 Derwent Drawing pencils so I do have a wide range of brands to compare them to. Obviously if lightfastness is important to you, then these may not be the brand for you but if that is not currently an issue you are concerned with or are prepared to use a lightfast spray or glass, then they are a great brand for layering and blend beautifully both dry and with OMS. Thank you so much for all the work you do, I never would have known about or purchased the Koh-I-Noor or Lyra brands without seeing your reviews on them!! Have a great day!!
This is the first time i have even heard of these...geez there is a lot of pencils out there and it can be overwhelming for sure so thank you for your reviews!
Rosemarie Harding hi Rosemarie, you are so right, when I first started these reviews I seriously thought I'd only get a few videos done and then I'd be stuck for more videos, but after researching colored pencils I've learned that I've only scratched the surface with the videos I've done so far, there is still quite a lot out there to review and it can be so overwhelming, especially for those just getting into the medium. But hopefully these reviews are helping people to make choices without spending their own money. Any way thank you so much for stopping by and leaving your comment.
I would like to see more of them .Maybe even a comparison with arteza's colored pencils. I really want to find a good inexpensive set and i can't decide ...
Marco is a Chinese company and they don't even have much information on their website 😅. I have a set of watercolor pencils from this brand. I got it at China, and after a long flight to Canada, most of the pencils were broken 😥, I couldn't use they anymore.
thank you sooo much for this review Harry! apparently a local brand (Renaissance) here in Thailand sells these pencils too but branded as Renaissance of course. but looking at the pencils and your swatches, i'm 99% sure it's the same product. i'm so mindblown right now. it's as if you're reviewing a local brand i've seen seen since i was a child! again, thank you so much for the review. it's extremely useful! hope u have a great week :)
Further to my last comment as they are the same colours as the Bruynzeel one which do come open stock, though not the whole 100 range you can replace most of them with the Bruynzeel pencils. Pencils 4 Artists are an online store which stocks them.
Thank you so much, I will have to check this out and try to get in touch with Bruynzeel, I had actually thought they had stopped making colored pencils and I have heard a lot of good things regarding those pencils.
i believe buynzeel along with the brand sakura were intergrated within the brand Royale Talens now www.royaltalens.com/about-us/news/2016/09/royal-talens-strengthens-portfolio-with-bruynzeel-and-sakura/
Thank you Helen for always stopping by and watching and supporting me, I am trying my best to hopefully one day soon start giving away wee gifts to all of you wonderful people for your awesome support. Just a way of saying thank you.
Hi Harry, I got the 48 pencil set when they first came out. I had a nightmare sharpening them until I got the Derwent super point manual sharpener and they are great with that. I actually do like them because they're vibrant colours and lay down great in a colouring book. They are really good for people with hand problems like myself because of how much colour they lay down so quickly. I find it harder to get layers with wax pencils with the same colour pay off as these because of my hand problems. I have Prisma colour but haven't tried them yet.I'm even considering buying the 100 set of these oil pencils because I do like them. I agree they are sticky if you try to layer them too much. This company first came out with a 72 set of wax pencils which I have but the name on those is Marco Raffine. This may help you in your search for more details on the company. Thank you for the review.
Apparently the Raffine are the Renoir's 'big brother.' From what I have read the Renoirs are a lot harder, so the the Raffines should be easier to use.
I find the Raffine harder being wax and the Renoirs are like butter they glide on so easily. The colour depth from the Renoirs are very bright too. They're a good cheaper pencil either way for starter sets, both of them.I'm on google+ same name and pic, I have recently posted a colouring book page done with the Renoirs if you want to see how bright they are.
Hi Jewels, thank you so much for your comment, I can totally understand why these pencils and others like them would benefit your good self suffering with hand problems. If you haven't already tried them, another couple of sets you might want to try are the Lyra and Koh-I-Noor, they are all very similar. Although they all have the same soft creamy core, the Lyra and Koh-I-Noor are just slightly better quality in terms of manufacturing, no split wood casings, better sharpening etc. I have two videos on my channel reviewing them if you consider trying them, check out my reviews first and see if they would be right for you. However, if you are happy with the Marco Renoir, and there is no reason why you shouldn't be, I think the 100 set would be a fantastic buy for you. I've had a look at the 100 set color chart and they have really included an excellent balance of colors. I've found with some sets they can go over the top on a particular color, scrimping on an other, but Marco Renoir seem to have struck a good balance. I know the Raffine pencils, they are by the same company and just a step down from the Renoir, they also have a watercolor set in the Renoir line which I've just ordered a set of for review. Mind you, shhhh I can't tell my wife other wise I will be the first homeless colored pencil reviewer lol.
I have the Marco Raffines and I'm not fond of them. I am an adult colorer and they aren't good for coloring books. I haveover 100 books and they just aren't that great in any of the books and the books have different types of paper. They aren't smooth, vibrant or creamy enough for me. Are theses any different? I'm partial to Prisma because they are so versatile and I use Polychroms a lot and Caran D'ache Luminance. Love them all.
Yvette Williams hi Yvette thanks for your comment. The Raffines are the brand below the Marco Renoir and although I have not reviewed them yet I have researched them. I think the Renoir would be a good choice for Colouring books. In my opinion, regarding soft creamy cores, the Renoir's are quite similar to Prismacolor Premier. You mentioned Polychromos and Luminance and of course although the Marco Renoir are nice pencils especially for their cost, they are nowhere near the quality of the Luminance or Polychromos. But I would say that you will be happy with the Marco Renoir pencils, they are a higher quality than the Raffines. Hope this has helped you a bit and thank you so much for stopping by.
Hello !Re: Marco Renoir problem. The seller (Sincook storefront) has not replied to my third email and nothing from Amazon.Well, no more shopping from Amazon.Feel really awful because of bad PR .Anyway, thank you for your kindness.
I know you offered this a year ago, but..... I've searched the internet, from one end to the other, for hours, & have given up on finding the names of my Renoirs! Colorist friends in my FB groups have been searching as well. We've found color names for the Raffine's, but have found nothing for Renoirs... Being kind of OCD, it bugs the heck out of me.... I'd LOVE the color names, if you don't mind posting them here!
Me again. BTW- have you heard back from crafter's companion about the new spectrum Colourblend? Hoping they will send you a set to review. Only seen one from Lindsay the frugal crafter. The others I've found are on the old formulation and they weren't as nice as the new. Thank you for your time!
teresa b hi Teresa I've just heard back from them as they have bee. So busy at an art convention. There is a Blender pen in the essentials set, also there are refills available, a total of 216 colours. My next review is the ColourBlend in fact it was supposed to be the ColourBlend instalead of the this review but I just got so many people asking for this. Spectrum Noir sent me every set in the ColourBlend range and AquaBlend range to review and I can tell you that both those reviews which will be up soon will shock quite a lot of people I think as I was totally shocked when I used them based on other reviews I have seen about them in the past. Sorry it took a while to get back to you but I hope this has helped you out a bit and look forward to the ColourBlend review coming very soon.
Oh wow great review Harry, I do like how honest and to the point you are. Interesting how they bear so much resemblance to the lyra and kooh i noor pencils...and yet they seem to behave like prismas. I'm curious about them, but I guess not to the extent that I'll consider buying them. But they really are very affordable, I have to say. And they seem quite vibrant as well.
I just got these pencils a few days ago. They now have a 120 set which is what I got. They seem really nice so far. I did notice this video is from 4 years ago and apparently they are still arriving with busted tips lol. Thanks for the reviews!!! 💜 Hadassah
Thank you for letting me know that; it is not good at all that they are still arriving with broken tips, after all this time they should have worked out a solution. But they are lovely pencils, quite soft, use a light hand when layering with them otherwise if you are too heavy handed they will bloom a little, they will fill the tooth of the paper quite fast and resist layers.
You are so right Pernille. I have been into colouring books for around 2 months now and was disappointed on the whole of what I had found or given as a gift. I treated myself to the Artist Edition of The Secret Garden and the difference is amazing.
Thank you so much for this information Pernille, I will take this into consideration, adult coloring is new to me so I need as much advice as I can get. Thank you so much.
We get a wide variety of product descriptions for pencils, pastels etc, but as I'm a newbie it would be great if the publishers could make a comment as to what paper their coloring was printed on.
Patti Hanson hi Patti, I've never actually tried them but I will definitely get hold of a set and review them. A lot of people have said that both sets are very similar, but like I said, I will try to get hold of a set and review them on here. Thank you for letting me know about them.
Kamarie Simpson I know, I don't know what happened with this but it is only for a few seconds and the image it is covering is still displayed when the pink is gone. I apologise for this, I think it might be something to do with an issue I was having with my Final Cut Pro Software.
Hi! 🙋♀️ There IS actually a review of a different set of Marco Renoirs that I would really love to see but I can't find any reviews for them as yet, and that's the Marco 3200 set. They are done with black wood and I have a feeling that they might be really good pencils and perhaps a softer/wax version of the Marco Renoirs. I saw them on AliExpress/Wish and the maximum number I can see so far is the 48 set. But I just *cannot* find a single review of these pencils anywhere. The other two pencils that I'm interested in seeing reviews about are the 120 square Brutfuners and particularly the new set of 520 Brutfuners that have recently been released (yes there are actually 520 individual pencils). But I can see a few of reviews of the Brutfuner 120 squares coming up, but just not by any reviewer who I follow as yet, so I would be curious to see what your opinion of those are AND the 520 Brutfuners, but the MAIN one I would love to see you do a review of is the Marco 3200 sets that are in black wood because I do really put a lot of stock in your reviews 👍
Hi Melinda. I know the pencils you are referring to and I will get on it right away, I’ll buy them and review them, but it might take a few weeks for them to even arrive, but I will definitely do that review for you. I have the Bruntfuner 120 Square which I will be uploading a review of soon. I seen the 520 set but I just can’t afford them yet as they are about £100. It’s an excellent price for 520 pencils, it’s just my eldest daughter who moved out just before the lockdown all started is really struggling financially so we are trying our best to support her with what little money we can send her. She is doing a Tattoo apprenticeship which at the minute is unpaid, she is working in a restaurant waiting 4 days a week the other 3 at the Tattoo studio so the money she makes from the job goes to paying her travel to the Studio, her rent and food. But as soon as we are over this blip I will definitely get the 520 to review. Marco have also sent me the Chroma pencils they have recently released but I haven’t received them yet as they are coming from the Ukraine. But I think you might be spot on about the 320, they do look like they will be a soft cored pencil, so I will order them right now from Ali and upload the review as soon as possible. Hope you are keeping well and thank you so much for your request, your kind words about the reviews and your wonderful support
@@TheArtGearGuide Oh wow, cool! 🤩 And I was just honest about the quality of your reviews. There's a few particular artists on RUclips whose word I really put a lot of stock in, and you are one of them. It never occurred to me to try pencils out on black paper to test their strength/opacity. That is a very good and unusual idea! 🌷 from Australia 🇦🇺
I will certainly do a review of them as soon as I can buy a set, I can’t seem to find them here in the UK Amazon or EBay or even AliExpress. But as soon as I can get a set I will buy them and review them. Thanks for the request I must admit I’d not heard of them before
I just got thr pencils today, not one of them was chipped, perfect ends. the colors amazing and soft to paint. I have all the best pencils brands wnd these are far better quality.
Thank you so much Elizabeth for letting me know, I am going to try and see how many other like you and I have experienced this with the Marco Renoir and try following up on it. Thank you so much.
Harry,I should have added that I also have the MARCO RAFFINE which are considerably cheaper again and this does not happen. Check out OLLYLOVES ART on you tube and she uses these and does some wonderful colouring. On you tube I think...?Passion for pencils who uses Brynzeel has mentioned they are the same as BRYNZEEL DESIGN...but as you say wonderful colours...will try the sharpener recommended and the microwave trick..could well be the story of prismacolour change of manufacturer!!!!
Hi there and thank you so much for stopping by the channel, thanks for suggestion, a few people have asked me to review pastel pencils in the past and so I have purchased a set of Faber Castel Pastel Pencils, Stabilo pastel pencils and a set of Derwent Pastel Pencils, so I will get them posted as soon as possible. Thank you so much for your support, I can't tell you how much I appreciated it.
Thank you Harry for another great review! 💙 this problem of the lightfast, it's a headache for the Artist! at the time to buy colored pencils...I think, if in the box said..."Professional Pencils" or "Fine Art Colored pencils" they must have a good range of lightfast!!! And this is very frustrating because it's needed. 🤷🏻♀️
I enjoyed your review. Thank you for sharing your knowledge. At present I am searching for a good sharpener that won't chew up my pencils. I would love a sharpener that is good for all colored pencils so I don't have to buy each brand of pencil a sharpener by that brand.
hello Ivor....thank you so much for your thorough reviews...I've been looking at these pencils and wondered about them. Thankful for your video before purchasing. I think I'm going to wait and spring for a set of Pablo's. I'm wondering if you have a Facebook fan page??? I think you would get a lot of followers on a fan page with your fantastic youtube reviews. Thanks again so much!
Alicia Hadden hi Alicia thank you so much for stopping by. I do have a Facebook page, twitter, Instagram, DeviantArt and loads of other social media sites. The links for them are at the bottom of the description box or if you check out my web site colouredpencilreviews.com you will find all the links over there as well. I'd love to catch you on Facebook so hope to see you there soon. Thank you so much for stopping by and I have a review coming very soon in a special format that will help you regarding the Pablos but I can't say more than that as it is quite hush hush at the minute but I hope everyone will be happy when they see what's happening soon.
Hi! Thank you for this review. I've only heard of these and their companion sets a couple of times. It seems people aren't sure which is supposed to be the better set. Can you say for surre which is the softest to color with? Thank you for the review! Nice to hear another opinion! Sound like a decent set.
teresa b my grandmother has the Marco raffine set (she is on her second set) and I decided to try this set- this is definitely the better set- blends, colors, and sharpens better.
teresa b teresa b hi Teresa I am so so sorry for not answering your question, I read it a while back and actually thought I'd answered it and then tonight I seen that I hadn't. Thank you so much Cathy Stephens for answering Teresa. Cathy is absolutely correct, of the two sets these are the better quality by far, very soft. Thank you so much for your question and thanks again Cathy for answering I really appreciate it.
Hi Harry. I've just discovered your website and RUclips channel and have to say I love your reviews. I have some info for you on this specific brand and the manufacturer. As you said it's extremely hard to find info on them but I did do a lot of research and was able to find out the manufacturer and contact them. As both these and the Marco Raffine pencils are marketed as being oil based I wanted to know if they were really oil based or not. They wrote me back stating they are not oil based, they are actually waxed based. While they might have some oil mixed into the blend as they use different blends for their different pencils to give a different outcome on how they perform (the Renoir being different then the Raffine) I take it it's not enough for them to be classified as an oil based pencil, at least that's what they told me. I did state that all the sellers I've seen for them have declared them to be oil based and this was why I wanted to check with them directly. If you'd like me to share any of the info I have with you about the manufacturer or other info I've discovered feel free to contact me would be more then happy to share. Thanks again for your informative reviews Lisa
I'm not an artist. I watch your reviews because I use color pencils in adult coloring books. And your reviews are great already! People wanting to know if it works well in adult coloring books are probably new to coloring. I say that because after you've bought your 3rd coloring book you'll realize ... It's a Jungle out there!! :) The paper in the book could be anything from cheap copier paper to What the heck were they thinking?? :( , with an occasional this is Awesome :D!! So most go with a main set that suits THEM not the books. I have nerve damage in my hands so I don't always know how hard Im' pressing and I tend to drop things. That excluded Prismacolors. I went with Faber Castell Polychomos and I love them. I make them work with most books. There's a few I can't and so I'm looking for a wax based pencil for those books. Getting back to my point your reviews tell me exactly what I need to know. The colors, are they true to the barrel color. Do they blend? How do they sharpen? (Which is REALLY important because a Lot of books have fine details that we need a point to get into.) Are they creamy? Do they cover well and quickly? (Some areas in the book I just want evenly covered with as little pressure as possible.) And of course How Bright are the Colors? lol! All these questions and more that I can't think of you already answer. Anyone new to hobby can do research but eventually will have to take the plunge. If they've watched your reviews as they are their ready!
Tmarie2u thank you so much my friend for your very kind comments. I am so happy to help some people and it is that thought that makes me love doing the reviews. Thank you so much
I will absolutely be doing a review of the Polys, I have my 120 set which I will be using for the review. Thank you so much for stopping by the channel and for your suggestion.
Crafty Crafter they are really nice to use, but as I say in the video because they are soft like prismas, and with really soft cores comes sharpening problems occasionally. But for the cost they are really worth it
I love all your reviews i watch before i buy i can't draw but i love doing the adult Colouring books . I have being told by quite a few freinds and colourist that do tutorials. That im very good So blending shading as you know. You need a good set of coloured pencils. I have a question for you i have bought a box of high quality professional fine art coloured pencils. They aren't like thease i bought them quite a few years ago before i started to watch your reviews. On the box of 72 it says on the top before the other bit i mentioned which is underneath it says MarcoRefine. The box is just a thin cardboard box in silver with a landscape on the front and fancy lettering. They are silver with an inch of the colour and numbered on it 1 to 72 i have done a swatch on them as i allways do. I havent actually used them yet. I just wondered if you know or heard of them and if so what do you think ? I have bought quite a lot of different well known pencils now after whatching your reviews. And i do like the Prismacolor 150 set and the Fabercastel polycromas 120 set. And can't wait for my 3 sets of the black widow sets. Thank you for all you do very much appreciated Karen Collins
dont ever buy the marco refine i have the 72 sets and its so bad today i upgraded to the marco renoir shown in the review but i dont recomend the refines
Will .ace_ I have a review of Copics coming up soon on my channel if that is what you mean. I also have a review already on my channel of Markers similar to Copics from a company called Spectrum Noir, they are called Illustrator Markers and they are awesome, I show some of my art work with them on the review. If you check out my Instagram page or my web site The Art Gear Guide you can find some of my art there with markers. I think this is what you mean by comic markers but if I am wrong mate let me know and I will purchase the markers you mean and review them. All the best mate.
Wow they look really strange on paper. It's almost like a globby area. This brand would use up my oms. I appreciate the showing again. I think I will stay with my 3 favorites.. Thank you.
I've watched a few of your reviews and it's extremely hard for me to get an idea of how pencils actually behave because you don't show art done with them or even yourself using them. I know from experience that you really have to use pencils to be able to compare them to others.
Ramo I agree with what you are saying and would love to add me actually using the pencils I can't due to time and my medical issues. I can't sit for long periods recording my drawing and editing such long video clips. Unfortunately the best I can do is show the tests I do with the pencils which shows what the pigment looks like on the paper at various different stages i.e. Single layer, 5 layers, heavy layer, dry blending and solvent blending. Even if I was able to show you me actually drawing with them, it would have to be done incredibly sped up, which wouldn't really show a true representation of the pencil. But I do agree with you and would love to add that to my videos and if I can come up with a less painfully and time consuming way to do it, I will. Thank you so much for your feedback and I apologise for the delay in replying to you. Thank you so much.
I'm aware that many budget soft coloured pencils with different brand names are indeed made by Marco, because the barrels look so similar!! Plus, I have found Marco renoir's colour chart in both Chinese and English: img.alicdn.com/imgextra/i4/2935209205/O1CN018L7d582HrwH7Q9W9n_!!2935209205.jpg Hope this can be helpful for you to spot the colours within the set.
Hi Harry, great video! 😆 From what I have found is these are the same as the Bruynzeel Design pencils. This website list the design pencils as tested for lightfastness but no number ratings listed: www.cpsa.org/index.php/?option=com_content&view=article&id=147 This blog says these pencils are the big brothers of the Raffine pencils: www.colourwithclaire.com/blog/marco-renoir-pencils I am sure you have seen these sites too...lol 😉 I hope you are doing well my friend!
Thank you so much Val, as always, super helpful. I will definitely be checking out the links you've included and check out the information. Thank you so much. I am not too bad thank Val, another injection in my spine on the 23 of November, so something to look forward to...not lol, very painful but helps in the long term. What about yourself, how are you keeping? I havent seen a video from you in a while, so I'm not sure if I've just missed it or you haven't done one and taken a well deserved rest. Talk to you soon Val my friend and I hope you are keeping well.
Blue Petal Media Blue Petal Media hi Blue Petal I've just seen your question and this very second ordered a set of the Bruynzeel Design Pencils to help answer your question. As soon as they arrive I will write a review and let you know. Thanks so much for stopping by and leaving your question.
Hi Harry I have the 100 set of Renoir which are a step up from Marco Raffine, but a small one. I was surprised you compared to Prismacolor yet most people know their quality sadly is not at all what is once was and I think Renoir's is not great either. Perhaps Renoir's quality at times might have a hit but the ones I purchased and I bought a 48 set a year before the 100, were both a big miss. I totally understand your trepidation in recommending them and that love/hate thing. I have been very frustrated every time I tried to work with them, when sharpening I've lost more than 1/2 the pencil they just crumble away, I've never seen anything like it. They are very thin like Lyra and I also get little, forgive me here, little "boogers" blobs left behind on the paper like Lyra's. Sorry, not sure if I explained that very well. Color swatches are a must since some of the tips and actual lead colors are way off and some lay down good color, some not so much, and they are soft and blend well. I tired them a few times but get to frustrated so I'm giving them to a friend who has more patience than I. Thanks for sharing your knowledge I enjoy your reviews your videos are greatly appreciated thank you.
@@juwenayu8913 how would they compare to the polychromos or prismas. There's someone on marketplace selling the 120 set for £40 is that cheap. As can't find these online
Yes, the tin was not sealed and a great number of them were broken. Also, they were some pencils missing. The quality control is a disgrace.Personally speaking, a waste of money !Kind regards from the UK.
+apollonia Did you not ask for a refund from the place you purchased them from? Also you should have contacted the company that manufactures the pencils, in all likely hood they would have been devastated to find out your issue and done something about it. One thing I've learnt from dealing with all these art supply companies is that they are not in it to try and short change their customers, they all want full customer satisfaction and do really strive hard to achieve it. Of course, every now and then a bad batch will slip through the net, but in my experience, the companies try to help. Sorry to hear you had such a bad experience with the Marco Renoir because over all they are a really nice pencil. Thank you so much for stopping by.
I bought 48 and 20% kept breaking. To give them another shot, I bought a set of 100 ! Now, I received the set yesterday and the way they were packaged shocked me. The set rattled so I assume that most are already damaged !!!!.Amazon seller feedback would not accept my criticism regarding the packaging......unbecoming !Kind regards from the UK
Hello !Sent seller seven emails without any luck. Sincook (the seller) wanted an image ! An image of what ? The missing pencils ? The unsealed tab ? The dented box ? Any of those things could have been made by me ! And no, they were not.Tried to get Amazon customer service and they referred to their seller policy. There was no invoice and to return the box back would entail a trip of over 100 miles (there and back) . Further more, I honestly doubt the seller will send a new box never mind a refund. As for Amazon, I bought so many goods that it would fill a large room ! Truly, I am disgusted with them.Anyway, I call the whole experience a nightmare: thanks Amazon !Kind regards .
Thank you so much for you opinion on these pencils based on your experience, it is so important that people such as yourself with opposing opinions leave comments on my reviews, it allows people who read the comments to get a full unbiased view of them. Thankfully this has not been my experience with them, however I can imagine how frustrating this would have been for you. Do you mind me asking if you contacted the company or perhaps the place you purchased them from and if so what was the response. Thank you so much for your feed back and kindest regards
There are a number of brands coming from the same factories in China. They are cheap and lacking in pigment. I also had the Spectrun Noirs and Bruynzeels. I gave most of them away because of the poor quality.
I'm disappointed with these pencils, you can't overlap the colors and the tip breaks when you sharpen them. I wouldn't buy them again. I have the box of 36 colors, I'm sorry I wasted my money.
Well because not everyone can draw, if I understand your comment correctly, you are saying, why don’t people just draw out their images to Color rather than use colouring books? If I have picked this up wrong I completely apologise however I would just like to say this. Have you seen the work adult colouring book enthusiasts create? If not you should really check them out, they are amazing. My good friend here on RUclips Dev aka @themoderntcolourist has an amazing channel and from his channel you can check out loads of other excellent channels where you can see the amazing work these amazing artists create. As to why they do this rather than draw out their own work, well some of them do and the others that don’t either just don’t enjoying the actual drawing process or are not very confident drawing, so they buy books filled with the art style they love and bring the image to life. I hope I have not misrepresented your comment and apologise if I have and thank you so much for commenting and asking the question, I hope I have helped you out a bit with my reply. Thank you so much.
I draw, but also love colouring books. I find they help me improve my blending/shading/definition etc. Many adult colourists also draw additional images in their book. X
Idiot comment ! Not everyone is COLOURING BOOK skilled ! Drawing - perspectives - and such is another kind of creative format , colouring is none demanding - and thought as therapeutic Therapy , why should some one then stress to have to draw their own pictures … because someone thinks they should 🤦♀️
I just wanted to tell you that I appreciate your videos and I hope you never stop making them.
Sue Wilkinson Sue I am so pleased that she likes them, they should be soft enough and lay down really easy. I'm so happy for your Mum Sue.
Sue, what a lovely story, it's great to have older relatives who can evoke these past times to us. Life before Amazon, huh?
WARNING FOR ANYONE WITH EPILEPSY - just after 6:30 mark, the screen briefly flashes intensely. Word of warning.
I have mTLE, but didnt notice
@Tristian Jaden Instablaster =)
@Nikolai Gerardo thanks so much for your reply. I got to the site on google and I'm in the hacking process now.
Seems to take quite some time so I will get back to you later when my account password hopefully is recovered.
@Nikolai Gerardo It did the trick and I now got access to my account again. I am so happy:D
Thank you so much, you saved my ass !
@Tristian Jaden Glad I could help :)
Well after getting these because some referred to them as Nyoni- I am putting them in the coloring pile for my little ones when I travel.
Hi
I replied the other night on my iPad and then managed to delete it before publishing!
If I had to ask, what is the difference between Marco Renoir and Marco Raffine and what do you think is the better of the two?
Marco raffine is like the student variant and Marco renoir the artist variant.
Try putting the ones that continuously break into the microwave for a few seconds an see if that helps
Thanks for your honest review Harry!
Thank you Helen for always stopping by and watching and supporting me, I am trying my best to hopefully one day soon start giving away wee gifts to all of you wonderful people for your awesome support. Just a way of saying thank you.
Enjoy your reviews so much! So helpful for a beginner,
Thank you very much. These reviews are really helpful.
are these the same company as Marco raffine?
I just read below it is a level up from Marco raffine
yes it is. These are oul based and much softer than Raffines, which are waxier.
These are of course, being oil based, also more expensive.
I find the Renoirs much easier Capyboppy. Each to their own lol.
Absolutely:-). I just had a quick Google as I haven't used either being fairly new to colouring; was after a general feel and thoughts.
The seller (Sincook storefront) has not replied to my third email and nothing from Amazon.Well, no more shopping from Amazon.Feel really awful because of bad PR .Anyway, thank you for your kindness.
there is a colour chart in chinese. i'm chinese i can translate it for anyone wanting one.
I would love the colour names too please
🧡🧡🧡🧡🧡🧡🧡🧡🧡🧡🧡🧡🧡
just finished binge watching all of your video
awesome content
Thank you so much! Will look forward to the Colourblend pencil review-when you get time! : )
The adult colouring books vary insanely much in terms of paper quality, and it will not be a simple matter to answer that question.
Saw Bruynzeel sets at my local art store but no loose stock. What do you think about them?
Patti Hanson hi Patti, I've never actually tried them but I will definitely get hold of a set and review them. A lot of people have said that both sets are very similar, but like I said, I will try to get hold of a set and review them on here. Thank you for letting me know about them.
In the video some times the screen goes pink/purple colour so I don't see everything:(
Kamarie Simpson I know, I don't know what happened with this but it is only for a few seconds and the image it is covering is still displayed when the pink is gone.
Can you review the Star Joys? People usually say they’re comparable to polychromos but I would want an opinion from an actual artist like you
I will certainly do a review of them as soon as I can buy a set, I can’t seem to find them here in the UK Amazon or EBay or even AliExpress. But as soon as I can get a set I will buy them and review them. Thanks for the request I must admit I’d not heard of them before
I just got thr pencils today, not one of them was chipped, perfect ends. the colors amazing and soft to paint. I have all the best pencils brands wnd these are far better quality.
Like a bruynzeel design colour 8805 but cheaper for the asian market?
thanks my pencils came like yours all chipped and I have had a few problems sharpening them...
On you tube I think...?Passion for pencils who uses Brynzeel has mentioned they are the same as BRYNZEEL DESIGN...but as you say wonderful colours...will try the sharpener recommended and the microwave trick..could well be the story of prismacolour change of manufacturer!!!!
great review. Thanks...I suggest doing pastel ( pencil) reviews as well.. :)
Thank you so much for your support, I can't tell you how much I appreciated it.
please include kohinoor as well in your list..thanks
Absolutely excellent review.
738polarbear thank you so much.
hello Ivor....thank you so much for your thorough reviews...I've been looking at these pencils and wondered about them.
Hello Harry! From Laramie, Wyoming. My question is did these pencils have any thing covering them in their trays? and if not that is also the problem.
Thank you so much Kathy! And thank you Harry! You both have a Merry Christmas! : )thank you again!
Thanks again for your informative reviews
Lisa
Thank you so much
Please do a review on the faber castell polychromos!!!!!!!!!!
!!!!!!!
I will absolutely be doing a review of the Polys, I have my 120 set which I will be using for the review. Thank you so much for stopping by the channel and for your suggestion.
Coloured Pencil Reviews thank you I've got a set of 72 prismacolor and I'm thinking of getting polychromos instead
I've had a number of people recommend these pencils, I love prismas and haven't bought the Renoirs yet.
Could you review comic markers
Thank you.
i love mine , just found your channel. i have a lot to watch catch up :-p
i got this...for alternative cheap one its actually soo goooooooooooood! but it does breaks easily.
Plus, I have found Marco renoir's colour chart in both Chinese and English:

Hope this can be helpful for you to spot the colours within the set.
Great review, thank you!
With some pencils, if they keep breaking you can put them in the microwave for 10 or so seconds
Hi Harry, great video! 😆 From what I have found is these are the same as the Bruynzeel Design pencils. This website list the design pencils as tested for lightfastness but no number ratings listed: www.cpsa.org/index.php/?option=com_content&view=article&id=147
This blog says these pencils are the big brothers of the Raffine pencils: www.colourwithclaire.com/blog/marco-renoir-pencils
I am sure you have seen these sites too...lol 😉 I hope you are doing well my friend!
Thanks for sharing your knowledge I enjoy your reviews your videos are greatly appreciated thank you.
made in China? In the same factory that Royal Talens Bruynzeel pencils are made?
I have the set of 100 and I have had a number of them crumble.
Are these an artist grade pencil or like a cheap brand?
It's artist grade. Their student grade is called Marco Raffine
Are you Irish?
Winnie Pooh I am indeed, I am from Northern Ireland, Belfast.
Oh cool! I live in Ireland
You can message the company on instagram ;)
Pretty colors but so hard to sharpen....too bad made so cheaply made
I certainty would not recommend these.Awful breakages.Waste of money.Kind regards.
Koh I Noor are far better pencils.
I hate those pencils, they will it sharpen for shit. It's extremely waxy and hardly blended
I'm disappointed with these pencils, you can't overlap the colors and the tip breaks when you sharpen them. I wouldn't buy them again. I have the box of 36 colors, I'm sorry I wasted my money.
Lol! Younhave 123 comments lemme make that 124 comments!
Aren’t these made in China?
Maybe there's more pro rather than cons, that's why people keep buying them 😅😅
Who tf buy coloring books sketch it out and draw
Drawing - perspectives - and such is another kind of creative format , colouring is none demanding - and thought as therapeutic Therapy , why should some one then stress to have to draw their own pictures … because someone thinks they should 🤦♀️
Useless and waste of money.Cannot recommend these at all.
