Jacksonville State University March 2018 Tornado: Morning After

- The fog was thick I was on my bicycle. The Students are on Spring Break, thank the Lord. And I don't mean that as a typical southern cliche. The video that pops up at the end was 2016 drive through while I happened to be in town.

My sister and my wife both graduated from there, and my wife is still working on her Master's there. We heard the tornado from Alexandria on its way there last night, and that was enough to send chills down your spine. Thank God spring break was this week. Possessions will be replaced, buildings will be rebuilt (although it will take time). I think what hurts my heart the most is the trees and natural elements that made this campus so beautiful that are now changed for decades to come. I can't help but shed some tears over all this devastation so close to home. Regrettably, the Calhoun County E.M.A. had to turn away volunteers today due to down power lines and other hazards in the area, but rest assured, we will be there in full force as soon as possible to help any way we can.
I honestly believe this is why we find weird stuff out in the middle of nowhere where it shouldn’t be. Same goes for creeks.
TexasSheepdawg21 tornados and things like this. If you find one they obviously didn’t read the instructions LOL

I seriously love her though! 😂
Thanks so much for taking the time to do this video.. So devastating, and prayers for everyone affected!
A couple of my friends go to Jacksonville State but thanks the Lord they were here at home in fort payne on spring break. Thanks for showing the video.
Nice video and thank God no one was hurt. By looking at all the structural damage it was probably an EF2 of EF3. I am really surprised that more of the power lines weren't down. It was really nice to see the damage from a bicycle. Not that it was nice to see damage but the bicycle offered a much better and realistic view. Looks like a lot of clean up. God was sure merciful even though there was damage. Looks like everyone will get an extended spring break. Stay safe. This is only the beginning of spring.
Awesome effort to show so much of the damage, great work!
Thank goodness the kids were on spring break..this brought back memories of the 1985 tornado outbreak where there were 41 tornados that day and 21 of them were in North East Ohio and North western Pa..was the first and only time i witnessed a tornado... so much destruction, took a long time to clean everything up..
Well, most of my ?"s were answered in yr commentary. I'm just so relieved & thankful no one was seriously injured (as far as we know), & that u & Mrs. EA have all yr peeps close, safe, & accounted for. Out here on the Left Coast, we've had many a rainstorm over the past couple days - it's raining now, in fact - but the Western Front's pretty darned quiet compared to the South tonite. Stay safe now, & hold yr babies tight.
When I heard where the storm hit I prayed you and yours were safe. Thanks for the update.
I'm glad you guys are okay. It always gives me a feeling of awe whenever I see the aftermath of these things. So glad I live here in NY state.
My husband is from the Decatur/Trinity area of Alabama. After he saw your video, he called his sister in Town Creek to check on her. Glad you, your bride and youngins are safe.
It sounds like you were trying to hold back the tears a few times. No need: Cry if you must. Remember veteran reporter Mike Bettes at Joplin 2011? Stay safe and thanks for sharing. ☺❤
WOW! I'm glad y'all are safe! Thank the Lord it was spring break! I'll keep y'all and those whom may have not been so lucky in my prayers! The weather has been a nightmare for many states! Hugs and love to everyone! ❤️️
Wow, that looks terrible. So glad no one was seriously hurt and hope the recovery goes well. Take care, GL&HH. Deano.
I am very thankful that nobody lost their life. Buildings can be repaired, a broken leg will heal and so on. The trees, I am always so saddened to see the huge trees taken down or splintered. No one living today will ever see a replacement tree as large as these were.
This is my alma mater... lived here for six years of my life. It breaks my heart. 😢
Nice footage Thank you for sharing
Speechless utterly speechless all i can think right now is sorry for all of you in Alabama
Hope you were safe glad no one was killed thanks for sharing this video you have more footage than any news station up here in Franklin tn
I drove to JSU just last semester from West Virginia to watch a football game and listen to the Marching Southerners. Absolutely devastating to see this...
All the material things can be replaced or rebuilt.
The important ones are safe and that is what counts the most.
Congrats on 29K subs !!
Thank you for sharing. What awful devestation. Thank God it wasn't worse.
Wow the damage is incredible. Praying everyone was ok. It’s getting to be that time of year. Everyone stay safe out there!
Really sorry E.A. Not much more to say. Nothing can be said to make it better . Glad Yall are ok. Your in Our prayer . Texas
I was wondering how you were doing...So glad y’all are safe and that the students were all in spring break! We had some nasty thunderstorms down here in Lanett, but no tornadoes.
Not just the students we live nearby dad works near it almost demolished our house thank goodness we weren't close enough
You were the first thought in my mind when
I heard about the tornado honey. I’m so glad you’re
ok. Smart move to take the bike, can’t imagine how
many tires picked up nails driving around🎈
Absolutely "Flumbergasted"!! Brings back awful memories of Hurricane Mathew Oct. 2016 that totally destroyed our town and our home here in Haiti. Take care and keep safe (Do you have a tornado shelter at home)?
This is so surreal. JSU is my alma mater and I lived in Jacksonville for half my life, all of my adult life. I've been in all these buildings, spent countless hours in that library. All the trees are gone. It looks like a nuke got dropped on it.
Big mess! Glad you and yours are safe. Didn't hear a thing about this on the news today.
Science in Motion is as close as you can be to Nature in Motion WOW Prayers sent
Oh my gosh!!!! Truly a blessing it was spring break...scary stuff..I'm just a bit phobic with tornadoes..the forces are just incredible.....
This is unheard of weather. I am glad you all are alright. That is great footage of the destruction. It was such a large area, looks like miles? Did you find anything's odd?
angela manning All of this damage occurred within a half mile (I lived at one of the ruined dorm halls on campus). All of this is generally close together, within a 15 minute walk from the two dorm halls.
Crazy man. Glad y'all made it through ok.
After seeing your footage praise God no one died. I'm glad Roon is ok along with everyone else.
i agree
That’s a lot of damage wow! I pray everyone is safe!
Self Hall - Communications Bldg and home of WLJS 92.J at 22:40 . Sad to see my school ripped to shreds. Great Capture.
Heartbreaking to see such trees destroyed! The buildings are so well built and still standing amazing!
My grandson goes to that college glad he was on spring break.thank God.
No way is it a cliche! Thank the lord you are safe too! Unreal how our weather can change so many lives in a matter of moments! Its almost insulting to think we batten down the hatches for a ‘gentle breeze’, compared to this, in the UK!
I'd never thought about riding a bicycle and what an excellent idea it was. J'ville State go hit hard! What time of day did you do this ride through?
I heard that one touched down there. we were very fortunate that we didn't get hit that bad but some did touch down here in Jackson county and the surrounding areas as well. praying for the workers and familiea
I hope no one was hurt or worse..buildings and things can be replaced precious humans can't be...thanks for sharing this video ..
Oh ,this looks so familiar here in Tennessee..prayers for all the folks there in Jacksonville State and area
Our PRAYERS go out to all.
A tragic day to say the least, our prayers go out to the area's and people affected . qballmike
Must have been picturesque before. Some of those trees look over a hundred years old. And now? Gone in sixty seconds. Sad.
When my Grandmother survives in the tub and my Grandfather survuves WHILE HES OUTSIDE, they are very lucky to be alive!
many prayers, I thought this was where roon went to school
We don`t have this kind of weather here in The Netherlands, thank God! I hope nobody was injured or killed. But that damage is no joke! :(
So devistating. God bless those that need his help.

Praying for everyone in the area.
Wow, that's a lotta damage. Glad classes weren't in session.
Hope you and the family were safe. By the grace of God no one was there.
Hey E.A.,! What kind of bike are you riding? 🚲
Just heartbreaking.
Isn't this where your oldest was? If so I know how your heart must have sank. We're praying for y'all.
Just had bad weather hit here on the big sand bar was driving a friend home from work and hail was hitting truck stay safe y'all 😉😎🤙
So glad you all are safe...did it damage your farm?
Wow mother nature was not happy that day. Hope everyone is safe.
Thought of you and yours last nite as we watched your weather from WI...how far away from your home base is this?
1.5 hours'ish
Good video. Why didn't you keep going on up to 4th 5th and 12th Avenue. That's where the real damage was done. The college got all the sympathy. At least 5 deaths happen because there were 3 f4s . That hit that night. I was very lucky and the lord was with many people.
hopefully no one was hurt or killed be safe EA.
Extremely sad.
I don't know what to say other than wow I hope you and your family and everybody else is OK.......😳
@21:30 lol glad everyone was safe!
Woe, that's a lot of damage...
such devastation, and the birds are stll chirping.
almost the only sound in the air that morning other than the occasional driver
I hope you didn't get a nail or anything in your tires
That's a huge debris field.
Hope everyone is ok God bless
EA,is this where Roon is going to school?
There’s a difference between tree ripped up and tree gone....
The Jacksonville unversty is where one of my fam members go and thanks god she was on a tripcamd her boyfriend is okay
Seems to early for tornados. Stay safe.
Like a ghost town
Curious, do you wear some Dept. badge?
I notice no one seems to bother you while surveying this natural disaster.
I feel sorry for the kids who attend there. This was their world.
A what a mess. 🙏 sent .
Dang I feel sorry for people lost everything *sigh* idk there way fix anything their home and building and plant tree or flowers
What tornado was it F1 F2 EF 3 EF 4 EF 5??
I think at least a 3,from past experience living in tornado alley in Tennessee
Slender Savannah Yeah. I would say F-2 F-3, but it depends on a few different variables that the NWS applies that won’t be immediately available until after they do their official damage assessment. Cost comes into play as well.
Needless to say thank God there were no serious injuries or deaths. I worked the Jackson TN tornado back in 1999 (F4) and there were several deaths in that one. I was a reservist coordinator for Memphis Shelby County EMA and got deployed for mutual aid for that one. Took hundreds of photos. Being up close and personal in that aftermath makes you very thankful. It also makes you do a double take on your emergency alert system. The Jackson TN tornado in 1999, their warning system had several failures. And it likely cost some people their lives.
Only a 2 or 3 is the word so far. There were two different tornadoes, I think, that went through the town, which may explain why I had a sister and brother both with damage in disparate areas.
Some trees uprooted others twisted and snapped like toothpicks. I think you photo bombed a few TV stations
Grateful the students were on spring break!
Looks like f2
8:00 in in front of the house there was a power line down that was LIVE!!! Scary!! Be careful!
Lot of sleep deprived claims adjustors in Jacksonville these days.
Grageous Heavenly Father in the Name of Jesus I ask and pray for my family in Jacksonville FL that they are ok, and for my family else where in the path of this storm, the Stevens and other members, in Jesus Name I ask and pray Amen 🤗😇♥ Amen again.
This was in Jacksonville, Al. No lives were lost thankfully.
سبحان الله
Oh my! Earlier this morning when I heard.about the possibility of tornados in that area, I said a prayer.for you and your family. Such destruction is so alarming! Love and hugs to all!
Wow. Just wow. Millions in damage no doubt. Truly shocking the power of those storms.
Wow prayers for all glade your son was home safe.
