Actually, I enjoy my 124 Spider immensely, and with over 18,000 miles, haven't ever driven a more fun car that's as economical on gas!

I'm buying one (waiting for the delivery) and I really enjoyed this review. Especially about ways to weight-save.
I think everything I like is what he doesn't like: that it's got no storage; that it's too tiny for your other fully grown male friend; that cupholders are an optional extra; that you have to be an exact height or you can't drive it. I think it's a last hoorah to a nonsensical two-seater convertible, much like the old Triumphs and Healeys and TVRs....and dare I say it even the old 124 from the 60s. I don't think manufacturers will make them in 10-20 years time, everyone wants perfection and electric.
I'm very much looking forward to driving it in the rain, with the top down, wondering where to put my drink, feeling a bit silly with a massive grin on my face.
    ps I'm exactly 6 ft.

Thanks for the comment, very insightful. It’s lovely to hear from someone who can disagree and not get all hysterical about it. You’ll really enjoy your new car. 😀👌 Cheers mate. M.

The Spider is actually a bit cheaper in my area. And no one carries the manual MX-5. I'm a bit big for it (6'3"), but I love this little car (really, just giving the steering wheel a bit more range would make it much easier to drive). I also like the styling better on the Fiat. Never liked the way the front slopes on the new Miatas. I also like the powerband in this car. Makes city driving more fun. I like my Fiat, but your points are all 100% correct. ;D

I applaud this reviewer’s honesty. So refreshing to feel you’re not just watching the same old standard review, churned out via script. I actually like this car, but I really like his honest and interesting take on it :-)

There's not nearly enough honesty in car reviewing, mostly it's people just pointing out bland platitudinous stuff, or making lazy assumptions about the buyer of the car.
Good on you for saying something interesting and if anyone is angry rather than just "ok, but I disagree" then that says way more about them than you!

I own one. It's stunning to look at, puts a smile on my face when I drive it, and unlike an MX5 (which apparently you like, and is a similar car) it gets loads of attention. Anyway, it's all subjective, and everyone is different I suppose.

Thr point of this car is to appeal to old guys like me, I am 51 and when I was a kid I dreamed of owning the original 124, the new version is pure nostalgia, add to that I am 1,74 and the car fits like a glove, would I buy one ? Yes If I could affird a second larger car

You midgets have no idea, I'm 6'6 & found the Mazda 6 to be lacking in headroom.
I tried to sit in a Vauxhall VX220 with the roof off, which should make it easier, I had my feet against the firewall & I couldn't get my bum in the seat.
A friend let me sit in his MG TF, my head was above the windscreen.
I drive a Mitsubishi Lancer GS3, a car that I fit in, I don't even need the seat all the way back 😀

I'm also 6'6" and our company cars are Suzuki Swifts (2012-2017 models). They're surprisingly comfortable for me to drive and put some much larger cars to shame. I really do wonder how some manufacturer's manage to screw up the interior packaging so badly that a large car can't comfortably seat a tall driver.

I had a Fiat 124 in the 70s and it was a rust bucket, now I've had my BMW Z3 for well over 5 years and my only complaint is the boot is a bit small and at the end of the day you buy the car you like and want to drive, like on a sunny day with the top down my car can't be beaten.

Can you fit in an MX5? You should try a Morgan 4/4! See if you can fit in that! My mate is 6’2” and managed to get in with roof up, just. Getting out was altogether different! 😂😂😂

I feel bad for just getting to watchthis now but asalways a fantastic review. I hated the Fiata twin s for the reason you pointed out. At 6`3", these cars are too small. The 370z fits me great though. Same with the 86

Another aspect of "uncomfortable misfits": In the footwell on the (english) driver's side is a huge bubble in the floor, that's so obtrusive ... you simply cannot move your legs while cruising. "Feert forward to the pedals and stay like this!" Makes the seat uunusable for (continental) passengers. Completely agree with the verdict on this car (and the MX-5 in addition).
