    At the start of 2022 I was in the market for a voicebooth. The children's books company I work for is quadrupling the amount of picture book VO recordings, so we needed to upgrade our workflow and get rid of the burden of random street noise.
    In my search for details on the Vicoustic VicBooth Ultra I didn't find that much in depth information. So I thought it would be helpful to others if I make a review about this product myself to complement the other reviews. If you have any questions, feel free to ask.
    Non-Vicoustic equipment used in my setup:
    Microphone: Neumann TLM102
    Mic boom arm: Rode PSA1
    Headphones: Beyerdynamic DT770 pro (250 Ohm)
    Headphones preamp: Superlux HA3D
    Olucia RGB led snake 5 meters
    Screen mounted in front of booth window: iiyama ProLite XUB2796QSU-B1
    Monitor arm: Neomounts by Newstar FPMA-D650BLACK

    Super nice video! Thank you so much. I'm trying to sound more professional. I've been reading books here on YT for over 14 years now as a hobby, and I'm studying VO and unfortunately I've lost some nice jobs because I don't have a good place to record for long sessions. Your video has definitely made me love this booth. I just hope I can move in soon so I can have more space and enjoy it.
    Again, thank you so much and greetings from Spain 🥰

    Giirgo thank You so much for the time to make this. would it be right to say that a bigger one would be be better because you mentioned it was too small to get a perfect audio recording. I am thinking of getting one

    • @Wasaia
      @Wasaia  Год назад +1

      It does suffer from resonances and reflections. I use a TLM102 cardioid mic and place it as close to the VO talent as possible to minimise these effects. It all depends on what source you want to record and what mic you're using. And if you have extra acoustic treatment. I wouldn't regard this booth as a means to a perfect recording. I see it as a tool to make usable recordings without the terrible traffic noise I would otherwise hear in my recordings. The final voice-over recordings I produce are good enough for the purpose and context it serves. It's very usefull for some goals, but not for the highest demanding quality projects. (I wouldn't try to dub a Disney movie in this, haha)

    Thank you for sharing. The ventilation unit definitely sounds like a vibration issue. It's tough making a buying decision without seeing one in person, but these videos definitely help. From your video the inside looks kind of cramped. I'm curious if anyone would have issues with claustrophobia.

    • @Vicoustic1
      @Vicoustic1 Год назад

      Hi. Regarding the ventilation unit it is a Low-noise air ventilation system, and you can use only the natural scheme to ensure air circulation within the booth for short recordings.

    Many thanks for the review! 🤗 Very useful video, indeed! Just a quick question: do you think you can put a chair in the booth? It would be nice to record from a sitting position as well. Do you think there is enough space for it?

    • @Wasaia
      @Wasaia  2 года назад +1

      Yes, it is possible to put a bar stool inside. BUT, it is very difficult to be silent sitting on a stool. You very quickly get unwanted sounds just by moving your feet or other small movements.
      A regular chair would alsof be possible but that's really low. But not impossible.

    am a bit shocked that the ventilation unit produces audible noise for a sound booth. Seems ridiculous. Having looked a whisper rooms units they seem to get round this problem?

    Hi @Giorgo De Groof , Do you think it would be possible to show us like you did when someone is outside the booth? I really want to see what is the residual sounds outside the booth when someone talking (narration, character acting) in the booth and also when you have when talking normally loud outside the booth and/or even with loud music/ambiance, what is the residual sound you can hear INSIDE the booth. I have never found a video regarding that or someone testing this :) Many thanks in advance. Feel free to contact me directly or I can contact you directly if you want to share this. But I really think that people who looking for this booth wants also to hear that.

    Does the booth sound boxy like you are standing in a wardrobe or cupboard or are the acoustics clean aside from a few resonance issues you can fix with post EQ?

    • @Wasaia
      @Wasaia  Год назад +2

      It depends on your mic-choice and mic-placement I have learned. You do hear you're in a small space, yes. But I wouldn't call it boxy. I have to stand REALLY close to my mic though to maximize reflection to direct sound ratio. I use an Neumann TLM102, which can take pretty high SPL. The downside of having to position the mic that close is the exaggeration of the softer sounds, like mouth smacks and s'es . I filter these with iZotope Mouth-declick and iZotope de-esser. Another downside of recording this close is you must not move your head too much 🙂 I place the mix right above eye-sight, upside down, facing my mouth at a slight angle.
      For me this booth is a good solution: the results are good enough for audiobooks. ANd I don't have to worry anymore about traffic noise in the recording. I wouldn't recommend this booth for feature film dubbing though. Maybe it would be suited for some animation dubbing because those voice-actings are often very loud.

      @Giorgo De Groof Appreciate the response. I have the tlm 49 which I imagine would be pretty close to sounding the same. I am considering buying the booth to record primarily Rap vocals. It's a big investment to make without the ability to test it in person first so thank you for giving me your thoughts and opinions! 🙂

    How good is the ventilation system? Does it get hot in there easily?

    • @Wasaia
      @Wasaia  4 месяца назад

      Sorry for the late reply. The ventilation unit works well. Off course, it doesn't cool the booth. It only brings in fresh air. We do many sessions of 4 hours (with breaks) and no complaints. During a heat wave I would not recommend using it for too long if your studio can not be cooled.

    Kann man diese Kabine als Übungskabine? Ich bin Sängerin und möchte nicht mehr Proberäume mieten müssen. Ich würde sie im Keller installieren. Was denkst du?

    • @Wasaia
      @Wasaia  4 месяца назад

      Ja, ich würde dies durchaus als Übungskabine empfehlen. Es hält nicht alle Geräusche ab, aber es wird für deine Mitbewohner viel leiser klingen. Aber ich würde auf jeden Fall die Lüftungseinheit dazu nehmen, sonst wirst du zu wenig Sauerstoff haben.

    • @Wasaia
      @Wasaia  2 года назад +4

      It depends on what you use it for. For me it is not important how much noise leaves the box. I don't use it for rehearsal or stuff like that. I use it for recording voice-overs. I have too much random traffic noise in my studio. So that's why I bought this. To be able to record without having to stop for a passing bus or motorcycles or stuff like that.
      Besides that I want you to realize I put many spare hours into making this video. Just to provide some info. This is pure for fun and to share my own insights. So it would be nicer if you would choose more friendly words when commenting. Thank you
