- Here you go chaps and chappettes. Seeing as I didn't tab this one out, here's my tutorial.
This is definitetly the perfect song to ease yourself into the DGD/Swancore style of playing.
It's all pretty straight forward but it encompasses most of the elements that occur in the majority of DGD songs.

Creature Puppet All is not lost! You can substitute the 22 on the B for a 17 on your E and play the same lick that way. A little more awkward to pick but the same notes. ☺

Dude, I don't even play guitar (always wanted to) and I gotta say, this is really awesome! Super awesome tutorial. I always liked this song for how soft and aggressive the guitar sounds throughout the song. Again, super awesome job with this.
The solo after the first chorus was a little bit tricky when I played it from what I heard, I saw yours and things got easier, a humble thanks :D
Okay first off, I'm no pro guitarist, but once upon a time a girl introduced me to dance Gavin dance with this song, then a couple months later she died in a car accident. This song is the only song I know by heart. Your way is a "way" to play, but it's not "the way" to play it. Dgd plays the intro as a hard chord, 9 X 12 11 10 9 and the move the 9 to the 4. I've seen people play it they way you do and like I said I'm no pro, but that not how it's originally played. I watched videos of dgd playing before I made this comment just to make sure I didn't end up looking stupid, and Zachary plays it the way I said. Everything else was spot on, it's just this is my sentimental song and I figured I'd put my two cents in. I love all your work mike and you truly are an amazing guitarist and a frkn fantastic teacher of guitar and you have my highest respect as a guitarist.
The Lonely Songsman Hey dude. The only difference is I don't bar it. The reason I don't is because that first note (in the original recording) doesn't ring out with the rest, it's a short staccato note and I find it easier to jump my finger across rather than bar the chord to make it sound right, but it is exactly the same, it's pure aesthetics that make it seem different. I never bother with exactly where and how people play things. As long as the notes and techniques are right I go on how it best fits my fingers. Although there are always exceptions! All I'm teaching is how I play the song. I appreciate the comment though man and I'm sorry to hear about your friend, she introduced you to some great music! Thanks dude 😀

Mike I must say thank you so much for doing this tutorial! This is by far one of my top favourite songs by DGD and I've wanted to learn it for ages! You make this look easy as haha. I've been playing Guitar since I was 12 (I'm 22 now) and even though I called myself ZacTheMusician on here and a few other social media places, I'm actually not that good! 😂 I definitely need to pick my guitar up and start playing again and learn to do the A major and D major chords so I can learn this song fully! Do you think these tones are acquirable on the amp head version as opposed to what you use (which is the studio IRT)? I'm curious because I'd like to start making covers as soon as possible! Yeah you'll definitely be able to get all the tones you need from that beast!
The inner workings of the head are pretty much exactly the same as the studio irt so it'll produce the same sounds. Plus you can record with it exactly the same way as I do (xlr di output), or via usb (I think they have usb too)

You could call the chords by their minor counterpart but, because of what else is being played in the song with them, it makes more theoretical sense (to me) to call them majors. The song is primarily in the key of A so it makes more sense to use the D as the IV chord of A rather than calling it Bm as the II of the key.
But, to be honest, you could flip that round to make it all work in the relative key of F#m too! This is just how I interpreted it to help me make theoretical sense of it all. 😀

is there anyway you can tab this song or at least the chord for the break down and the funky "holy shit she smells like heaven " riff?, noone has it more accurate than you. im 27 and ive been playing since i was 13. ive become an alcholic over the last few years and lifes been tough, anyways im sober now and bought a guitar after not playing for like 5 years. and this band has been my favorite for the whole entire covid period and wish i got into them in high school lol. id even throw ya a few bucks when i get paid, this is my favorite DGD song.

The Mind of Louis Barring them actually makes them harder (for me) to get the notes all separated, with a bar you risk the notes ringing out together like I mention in the video.

Are you ghost noting some of the low D/A 7's and 4's at the end of the intro measures? Sorry if that's poorly worded, I'm new to music
I think you mean Palm Muting, if you mean that then yes I'm slightly palm muting those 4s and 7s. Lightly rest the palm of your picking hand on the strings really close to the bridge until you can still hear the notes but they are a little more dead sounding. hope this helps!

I been trying figure out the strumming though. I'm having trouble with the muted A string bit. I only hear the D string,but when you play it it all sounds combined almost like a chord
i think i got it now,sounds like horse shit but at least i hear A and D a bit more is sync. I been up all night cooking. Been trying to grasp this shit since 2:00 i'm about to crash yo. Kappa It's all just muted 'clickies' played on the D string. No chords or anything involved. Down pick the note then it's a down-up for the muted notes.
