Also India made a huge fence around the jungle whereas the Bangladeshi part is still wild and worth adventuring.

Arshad bhai entry in ctg hill tracts are also restricted to Bangladeshis too.Visited Bandarban twice there was check point by army & they saw every one & checked every ones id card too.In interior with a tourist group we had just like immigration check point given photocopy of nid & the days we would be in resort.Four places Cantonment, BGB, police & upazila (sub district council office) , it was too tiring. For foreigners they need special permission from ctg divisional commissioner .The time you visited it was not open for Bangladeshi tourist too.

If next time you want to visit Bandarban take permit from ctg divisional commisioner. Also there are some miscreants group so military very much aware of security of tourists & for the foreigners they are very much cautious about security. You see they are very much friendly too.
I think if any foreigners want to visit Waziristan or some places of KPK need special permission.

Country on the other side is India not Myanmar. Also, the insurgency was fueled by govt of India right after 1971.
Most of hills are not open for even Bangladeshi citizens. Many lost their life here in hands of insurgents. Those who enter including Bangladeshi, are escorted by Army (not BGB)here.

Believe many countries have such restricted areas due to various reasons, not necessarily only tribal conflicts. Bandarban, Rangamati & Khagrachari Districts commonly known as Chittagong Hill Tracts are such reserved areas from British era. Foreigners can visit these areas but prior permission to be obtained from respective District Administration. Come to Chittagong Hill Tracts and enjoy.

Hope you'll be back soon. Bangladesh isn't very touristy but good enough to have a relaxing break. For that you need to stay away from "popular" places. Come again, take some time to visit village area. You'll like it I think.
And unlike many other countries, countryside changes dramatically with seasons. Make sure you visit here during winter.
You missed sundarbans I guess. Next time before hiring a bike take a several day ship trip to sundarbans. Sundarbans is seasonally off limit and best time is winter. It is open all winter and temperature is tolerable. Else, you might face extremely hot and humid climate.

As a Bangladeshi, brother this is for your own good. Bandarban, Rangamati, Khagrachari, even though they are beautiful, they are also quite dangerous. It's for your own safety your access was denied. Also as far as I know, foreigners in general aren't allowed there without a government permit (which you can apply for easily). These are all for your safety since many terrorist groups, drug traffickers hide in the forests of Bandarban and the place is heavily militarised.

Rangamati, Khagrachari and Bandarban. Any foreigners are not allowed to travel these 3 places without meeting the given conditions. It's for their own safety.
Even being the Bangladeshi citizens we also have to follow vast amount of rules while travelling these places. It's mainly due to the unstable situation in those areas.

As a trekker myself, I used to visit Bandarban frequently, at least 2-3 times a year. I've ventured into some of the most perilous parts of Bandarban, even though regular access is restricted due to insufficient security backup for tourists. We always required a professional guide to accompany us. Additionally, these areas are susceptible to conflicts between the Arakan Army and the Bangladesh Army. Some of these groups, known as "Shanti Bahini," frequently clash with government forces such as the Border Guard Bangladesh (BGB) or the Bangladesh Army.
Recent clashes have escalated to the point where us trekkers no longer feel safe venturing into the deepest parts of Bandarban. So, as a foreigner, it might seem harsh, but authorities may deny you access due to their inability to provide adequate safety measures. I hope you understand. It would have been great if the police could have explained this to you. Next time, try to befriend someone from Bandarban who can guide you with extra precautions. Thanks for visiting Bangladesh.

Khawaja Nazamuddin was PM of United Pakistan as well... Read a lot about him in books... We've soo much history in Bangladesh and we must be thankful to them for 1947 efforts. Bengal lead the partition efforts. Whatever happened in past is shameful, May we have peaceful relations ahead b/w our countries. 🇵🇰💚🇧🇩

Brother you visited my home district. I'm from bandarban and currently i living in UAE. It's so difficult to visit the area in the current situation because of some tribal armed groups whom are founded by foreign countries. In the last couple of years there was few tourist kidnapping cases. This is the reason why defence forces are not let you visit the area .
