The mestizo do represent 60% of Belize's population, but the growth of that particular ethnic group is relatively recent due to an increase in immigration over the years. Maxence Barré Well, one guy did the calcs and at the current rate he'll finish in roughly 7 years. 7 years is enough for a new country to form, possibly Basque or Catalonia. I wouldn't be surprised if either one becomes independent in the next few years.
Are you sure 7 years !?!?! It's pretty huge ! So yeah, It's possible to see a new country. I think the most possibles are kurdistan or greenland. I think It's not possible (too early) but occidental nations like catalonia, basque, scotland and corsica, but also quebec why not! All is possible.
Maxence Barré Greenland already is kind of a country. THey're kind of like Puerto Rico. They're self-governing have loads of autonomy. But aren't really a country. Both though do have their own sports teams like the Greenlands mens national team in association football etc., own flags, different language etc. So I still think he should do Greenland.
Linsey Redd I've checked wikipedia. It states that it's an autonomous constituent country. (Faroe Islands is also a autonomous constituent country) So they're not a province.
There's no evidence that the song was inspired by Belize in anyway! Madonna even said in an interview that she has no idea where the inspiration came from.
Consider this about building Belmopan. consider why Nigeria's capital was moved to Abuja, and why Turkey's capital was moved to Ankara. Ideally, in terms of political geography, it is best for a capital city to be centrally located, particularly in relation to population cores.
I've been there and his video is very accurate. I visited the mennonite town in Spanish Lookout, lots of people and they have a lot of technology, like John Deere tractors and a bit of electricity and internet. I visited a mayan community and it was so strange to see people who are very culturally mayan, speak in creole english. Lots of mestizos, near the coast tons of creole people, much of the food is influenced by them. Near Guatemala are lots of military because they mayans want to go to belize for work. Many get past security though and work there. I went to a banana plantation and it was majority Guatemalan workers. Near the border they speak a lot of spanish too and use the Guatemalan Quetzal currency. A lot of the islands off the coasts are pretty much strictly tourism now but had a fishing history. Lots of drugs and cheap booze there. It also is a very low lying country that experiences floods often and that's part of the reason they built inland belmopan. They have their own beer called the Belican and many people are very patriotic of it and will only drink that. Taiwanese people are very accepted by the country but pretty much stay there for only 5 years before using belizean citizenship to go to the USA. Incredibly interesting country!
Belize has been an independent colony since the 1860's when Brittian signed a treaty with Guatemala. Subsequently Guatemala and British forces worked jointly in clearing the border and setting up border markers. Belize became a self governing independent nation in 1981. The border markers are still there. PS it's Belikin beer.
Good summary, near the border with Guatemala I even had situations people only speaking Spanish, but that probably was because they were people from Guatemala. I actually really enjoyed a lot of the beers in Central America and the beer Belican was surprisingly good too!
Hello im just like 2:32 in the Video and I am from Belize. And its Benque Viejo Del Carmen not Banque. but I'm still glad my tiny town was mentioned here in this Video makes me feel special.
Aztek temples? Beautiful Undisturbed forest inland? Massive well maintained coral reef? One of the most picturesque coasts in the world? Nice beaches? Belize sounds amazing to visit

Plattdeutsch/Plattdüütsch is NOT a dialect of German. It's closely related to German (historically it's more closely related to English and Frisian but it was heavily influenced by German) but it is often not mutually intelligible I speak both German and Low German (Plattdeutsch) so I know the similarities and differences
Niku Plautdietsch is spoken in some parts of Germany. Plautdietsch is very similar to the Dutch of the Netherlands, which is actually not surprising considering the Mennonites originate out of Holland.
And you need to know that this tiny old neighbor of Mexico gave refuge and work to many many Mexicans during and after the Mexican revolution of 1910 . Some of them being my great grandfather , great grandmother and grand mother who came from the state of Michoacán and stayed . Previously Many Yucatán Mayans came and made Belize their home during the '' Guerra de castas'''

6:57 into the Video. I look and Speak Creole, but I am also fluent in Spanish and English, and I know a few Maya, Garinagu, and the other languages are spoken here. it's natural to just mix all the languages you know to just say a sentence. he Forgot to mention that there is also ALOT of Asians here so I also know one of two Asian words.
Interestingly, Mexico, mostly the state of Chihuahua(fyi the dog is named after the state) are the main suppliers of Mennonites to the rest of Latin America yet still manages to boast a massive population, much larger than Belize's as well as other Latin American countries. Even in Canada, some have started calling them "Mexican Mennonites"(like in Alberta) as much of the recent population their can trace their origins to Mexico within the past century. Mennonites in Argentina, Bolivia, Belize, Costa Rica and so on, also trace their origins to Chihuahua, Mexico(and from Mexico to Canada and then back to Europe) In their Mexico video I hope they cover Mennonites as well as the Tarahumara tribe, the late 1800s Anglo-Mormon expeditions from Utah, other Native tribes etc. Northern Mexican states like Chihuahua, Sonora, Durango, Coahuila, and Baja are diverse with pockets of obscure and weird history. Very separate feel from the rest of Latin America especially in terms of culture, geography and fauna. No where in Central America and the Caribbean do you have scenes like snow-covered forests, large deserts/dunes, massive mountain ranges, Bison(aka buffalo) stampeding along the vast plains of the north, American black bears roaming city outskirts, like Monterrey, and rummaging through trash and backyards, a stereotype belonging to Canada or the US. All this giving the northern region of Mexico a very "North American" feel. Besides that, i'd like them to cover the large number of historical empires including the Aztec, Mayan, Spanish, Mexican and French/Austrian monarchy. Also hope they mention Mexico's many Islands that boast an amazing range of aquatic life since Mexico is flanked by the Pacific and Atlantic and contains 2 sub sets that are the Gulf of Mexico and the Caribbean sea. Basically, I hope they don't solely focus on central/southern Mexico and say "um Mariachis, Mexico City, Aztecs, something Cancun, yeah done". That'd be a slap in the face to about 80 percent of Mexico that don'r relate to any of those things even if they're a big part of Mexico's image in the world
Belize is awesome. Best beach ever, best zoo ever, best fried chicken, best ceviche laced with habanero peppers and a doused with a few bottles of belikin stout. Most of all, best national monument- Baron Bliss lighthouse.
Children in Belize are taught to draw 2 people...and they can color one person BLACK, and the other person YELLOW. And everyone in Belize have real MAHOGANY furniture. "YOU BETTA BELIZE IT." 🇬🇺
I've been in Belize spending a bit of time in Belize City which didn't always feel save but had many cool people and particularly nice musicians smoking weed all day. Belmopan was strange though, felt like a spacious suburban area with some government buildings. Would love to come back and see more ruins because they are freaking incredible!
Students Ethics Really? Because my country Grenada which is a Caribbean country has a population that is smaller than Belize population. And we have Subway, KFC and Pizza Hut.
Belizean culture must really be different. Guess they appreciate their own food. In Grenada with 110,000 ppl we have KFCs, 2 pizza huts and 3 subways that are going pretty good.
#Objection! In the Americas mainland, there are another countriy that speaks English: Guyana. However, I don't know if it is considered as as Latin American...
TheSpiralSaviours matt waight My mistake! Indeed, Paul Barbato referred Central America... Indeed there are no other country in Central America that speaks English, besides Belize... unBelize-able. In main land Americas. only 4 countries speak English: Canada, USA, Belize and Guyana. All the other countries, but 2 of them, speak Spanish. There is also a European territory in main land Americas. In the Antilles, everything is the other way around: only 2 countries speak Spanish, and there are several European territories in there.

Belice....Guatemala's Department ;) we're mad because England TOOK more territory than the one Guatemala LEGALLY GRANTED and what is more, ENGLAND NEVER CARRY OUT THEIR PROMISE of build a road in guatemala as a paid compensation in 1859. :) That is all in short.
KIZMO ..boy, stfu
What languages do you speak there?
Eric González English, Spanish, kriol etc. There are many cultures in Belize
What will you do if a new country is created and start with a letter you already done ?
I think he will finish his videos before a new country will exist...
Why did nobody mentioned that The song "la isla bonita" from Madonna is inspired in Belize (in San Pedro to be more precise)
im actully from there
There's no evidence that the song was inspired by Belize in anyway! Madonna even said in an interview that she has no idea where the inspiration came from.
@@alexihabet2058 suorce?
@@alexihabet2058 I guess it was Madonna's ghost writer who dreamt of San Pedro

i am from belize this is my favorite video of Geography Now!!! :D
Consider this about building Belmopan. consider why Nigeria's capital was moved to Abuja, and why Turkey's capital was moved to Ankara. Ideally, in terms of political geography, it is best for a capital city to be centrally located, particularly in relation to population cores.
In hurricane Hattie there was much destruction. THAT'S why they built Belmopan.
For safety.
My stepdad went to live in Belize for a year in 1982. He loved it. Love from Wales
+Rasta Mon Belikin*
Yap you been here👌 but fi we country still hype you know dat...
a lot of Guats because belize was part of Guatemala and British stolen it!!!

Loving your videos Paul, I've been into geography since I was a kid, it's refreshing to find your videos. Keep em' up, I hope eventually you'll get more financial assistance so you can make more of these videos in a shorter space of time (which I'm confident you will eventually). Subscribed.
As a Belizean American, thank u. U nailed it most accurate I have ever seen on any RUclips channel. I love geography and will subscribe.
Very interesting country. I would definitely love to visit!
You should come some time it fun here
We will be waiting ur visit with our arms open
Nice, only two corrections, PUP stands for People's United Party and its Benque Viejo del Carmen.
Thanks so much for taking the time to create and research our country’s facts ❤️🇧🇿
Plattdeutsch/Plattdüütsch is NOT a dialect of German. It's closely related to German (historically it's more closely related to English and Frisian but it was heavily influenced by German) but it is often not mutually intelligible
I speak both German and Low German (Plattdeutsch) so I know the similarities and differences
Niku Plautdietsch is spoken in some parts of Germany. Plautdietsch is very similar to the Dutch of the Netherlands, which is actually not surprising considering the Mennonites originate out of Holland.
@@RonnyPlett interesting, I did not know that. Be cool to look more up about that!
I made the same comment! As an Ostfriese it's very important to me that people know that Plattdeutsch is not a dialect!
@@RonnyPlett Dutch sounds like a drunk german.
Great video! I am from Mexico and really should know more about my good old neighbour. You just saved me a day of researching and assuming. Thanks!
I'm gonna send you to belize

Belize, also known as "Wait, Britain had a colony in Central America??"
Yup, Britain sure did. They were here to cut our logwood, thereafter our mahogany.
Shocked me as well because I though the Spanish had taken all of Central America.
Well you gotta belize it
What part of the world did they not touch?
As someone with British ancestory I didn't know that they don't teach us that but they tell us about the American civil war personally idc about there civil war maybe they could have talt us about that
I have been there! Super beautiful!
Also, I love your channel, dude.
Mennonites in Argentina, Bolivia, Belize, Costa Rica and so on, also trace their origins to Chihuahua, Mexico(and from Mexico to Canada and then back to Europe)
In their Mexico video I hope they cover Mennonites as well as the Tarahumara tribe, the late 1800s Anglo-Mormon expeditions from Utah, other Native tribes etc.
That'd be a slap in the face to about 80 percent of Mexico that don'r relate to any of those things even if they're a big part of Mexico's image in the world
iratelobster you should email him when he's going to do the Mexico episode with your info.
Belize is awesome. Best beach ever, best zoo ever, best fried chicken, best ceviche laced with habanero peppers and a doused with a few bottles of belikin stout. Most of all, best national monument- Baron Bliss lighthouse.

Hi
2:33 it’s the other way around
On google earth, the top half of the border is straight and going down it tilts 5 degrees near Benque viejo del carmen
It’s really cool to see all these places I’ve been in Belize
Nice
5:28 😂😂, that's a freshwater angelfish, totally different
I’m going to Belize soon and I’m sure as hell excited. I was told that it feels like a perfect mix between Central America and the Caribbean
Im Belizean and at minute 2:32 i started to question if the town was actually called Banque😂😂😂 but im pretty sure its Benque😂😂😂 just a slight fix
Actually glad I found this, never really looked into the history of Belize I just go off what my mom and dad tells me (I'm Brooklyn native)

There is no McDonalds, Burger King, Starbucks or KFC in the entire country....
its so belizing
a food franchise wouldn't survive here in Belize because our population is too small... Subway tried it and failed miserably.
Students Ethics Really? Because my country Grenada which is a Caribbean country has a population that is smaller than Belize population. And we have Subway, KFC and Pizza Hut.
fegreenz belizeans are more traditional and stick with there own traditional food I think
Belizean culture must really be different. Guess they appreciate their own food. In Grenada with 110,000 ppl we have KFCs, 2 pizza huts and 3 subways that are going pretty good.
Amraya Baptiste yeah
Im gonna sell everything and move to Belize.

In the Americas mainland, there are another countriy that speaks English: Guyana. However, I don't know if it is considered as as Latin American...
Hedley Quintana Countries that were colonies of Spain, France and Portugal are considered a "Latin" Country. Guyana is not a Latin Country.
Yeah that's in South America, Not Central America...
TheSpiralSaviours ehm no one said Guyana is in Central America.
TheSpiralSaviours matt waight
My mistake!
In the Antilles, everything is the other way around: only 2 countries speak Spanish, and there are several European territories in there.
matt waight actually they are part of Latin - America , one can even said France is part of Latin America seems they have colonies in south America and the Caribbean
