The exploration aspect of Elden Ring is, in my opinion, the best part of the game. I hardly ever care about (or understand) the reward at the end of a dungeon but the journey itself ends up being a greater reward. I would love to see more games tap into that idea. I love finding and figuring things out on my own, I love little details that someone could easily rush by and miss, and I love taking my time exploring every nook and cranny. This game looks promising!
I completely agree with you! I had very little interest in this game until I heard their philosophy on exploration. Definitely keeping an eye on it now!
Did I really hear the Morrowind navigation?! nothing beat how it felt to find things and follow vague directions from memory! So happy to see another game taking a stab at that, super excited now.
I LOVE the fact that they're leaning into immersion by not giving the player a loaded HUD with map markers, quest markers, etc. The manual save hologram on the other hand is a bit immersion breaking in my opinion and I'm not really digging the way the combat looks so arcadey. It doesn't seem to fit the rest of the aesthetic.
I personally would love a map. Maybe a map that doesn't have an icon of your location, so you have to look around for a landmark to figure out where you are.
An amazing showcase, thank you! Absolutely sold me on the game, I love the aesthetic, storytelling and leaving it up to the player to explore and figure things out. This will be a day one purchase.

Looks cool. In terms of non-technical criticisms, I think there’s an almost distracting amount of hitstop I am sure it is meant to emphasize impact, but even if you don’t want to call this game a soulslike (I for one would disagree with you. It seems like combat is very much about learning enemy attack patterns, emphasized attack telegraphs, precise defensive responses, stamina management, and relatively cautious overall engagement), there is still a fair bit of souls in its DNA and as such, I could certainly see it being the cause of some imprecision. For a game like this, imprecision is one of the most damning qualities that can be possessed.
Looks interesting🤔 though i think he talked a _little_ too much, he said no holding your hand or just giving everything away, but he explained a _lot_ but if people don't know what a game is, are they gonna buy it? it looks like it's supposed to be a little bit "Grim/Dark Mystery Adventure" makes me think of Silent Hill and the Older Diablo games
This style of presentation with overly explaining and rambling is really not selling me on this game at all. Keep it mysterious. I also love he says it's not a souls like and then shows very clear souls-like gameplay. Haha.
I rather enjoyed him explaining things, especially his design philosophy. The combat doesnt look souls like, there was a thing called "hack and slash" way before Darksouls. However, the stamina bar is souls like. That needs to go.
I would say wukong is more of a souls like game, this game has more hack and slash combat with special attack moves to combo into and more of an emphasis on bigger mob sizes instead of having more of en emphasis on single target combat.

Yeah I can’t lie, the name is a bit stupid. Maybe there’s context for it in the actual game or something, but it honestly just sounds like a random name they gave it.
The context-based free-roam investigation/exploration is the biggest appeal here for me. The combat I can pretty much do completely without or at least heavily toned down to a more realistic survival style and a ratio of 80:20. The puzzle shown here was laughably amateurish but I'll give them the benefit of doubt that it's an intro puzzle that's supposed to be easy and intuitive. In general I feel like a lot of "We want x because we liked those back then " is being said without taking a step back to see how it all comes together. I understand wanting to craft a game that ticks all your boxes but when I hear 50:50 ratio, all I hear is that I might not enjoy 50% of the game because I prefer one system over the other. And the disconnect between "slow cautious detective" and "superpowered ultra flashy 1-man-army" is big enough to call it two systems, in my humble opinion. And one last thing that I also noticed during the trailer is that is lacks some kind of identity, some face, shape or symbol to attribute it to. All this might have been negative but your game was the only one that caught my attention during that State of Play so that's already a win.
I wouldn't say "it's a philosophy" so much so that it's a standard that people in general have forgotten; thanks to the internet readily spoon-feeding us information. So i definitely get where the guy is coming from. This game might actually be something of worth, to teach young minds to actually engage with some more critical thinking. Wow a new IP?!? How refreshing! Not a sequel or a remake or a remaster?!? I'm shocked! But seriously, I am very intrigued. I really like everything I'm hearing and seeing from this game. Can't wait to see/hear more.
I thought the same, but It's actually 30 fps if you go frame by frame. Something about the camera movement makes it look worse than it is. The motion isn't linear and the camera moves more every other frame or so?
Game looks cool but he keeps touting “the game wont hold your hand with exploring” i hope its not overly difficult and actually fun to explore and figure things out
Streamers are gonna hate this game because you actually have to pay attention to the game while your playing it & most are so stupid they read at a 4th grade level while playing games. 😭
This is where exploration in games needs to go, this is the next progression of it. Eliminate the compass or map that finds things for you. Developers should inform us through points of interest in our line of sight instead, make us go there by other means
Most of people need hand holding in games .... and they will feel lost and think the game is bad lol But i like that as well ...if you are a fan of this approach id recommend darkwood
Never going to happen, because the more difficult it is to navigate in a game, the less people actually explore in the game, and the more they just search for the directions online. At least when things are "served to players on a silver platter" they remain IN the game.
Having no map and markers is fine as long as you can bring something up, like a journal, that let's you know the people you talked to and what was said. If I'm exploring and it's been 5 hours of gameplay or I can't play for a few days, I would like something that can remind me so I know where to go. Otherwise, I'm just going to be lost and will have to look it up. I'll just get frustrated and wish there was a map with markers telling me exactly where to go. I typed that before I saw the drone and tablet. Having those gives you a lore reason why you could have a map to know where to go or at the very least be able to point you in the right direction. I don't see where there isn't a map. It doesn't have to pinpoint exactly where to go for every quest but it should at least allow us to mark where we know stuff are. I'm the type that likes maps and hates when a game doesn't have one. I'm fine with them not marking every little thing on it, but at least give me a map of the world.

But seriously, I am very intrigued. I really like everything I'm hearing and seeing from this game. Can't wait to see/hear more.
Death Stranding aesthetics with Star Wars movement and combat. Could be fun, hopefully it succeeds!
Okay, this wasn’t on my radar but now I’m COMPLETELY HYPED FOR THIS!
Loving the 20 fps! Keep it up
I thought the same, but It's actually 30 fps if you go frame by frame. Something about the camera movement makes it look worse than it is. The motion isn't linear and the camera moves more every other frame or so?
One minute in and i love this guy he gets it
Hopefully there's a 60fps option on console (and correct frame pacing) because this framerate is a little nauseating.
Officially my most anticipated game!
Game looks cool but he keeps touting “the game wont hold your hand with exploring” i hope its not overly difficult and actually fun to explore and figure things out
If I heard the word “Silver-plattering” once, I heard it 40 times lol bro I get it, there’s no hand holding
Streamers are gonna hate this game because you actually have to pay attention to the game while your playing it & most are so stupid they read at a 4th grade level while playing games. 😭
Facts !!
Yet they're smart enough to make money playing games, something you obviously aren't.
OG resident evil +death stranding +shadow of the colossus + devil may cry
You sir have the right recipe!
This is where exploration in games needs to go, this is the next progression of it. Eliminate the compass or map that finds things for you. Developers should inform us through points of interest in our line of sight instead, make us go there by other means
Most of people need hand holding in games .... and they will feel lost and think the game is bad lol
But i like that as well ...if you are a fan of this approach id recommend darkwood
Never going to happen, because the more difficult it is to navigate in a game, the less people actually explore in the game, and the more they just search for the directions online. At least when things are "served to players on a silver platter" they remain IN the game.
Unless it’s a live service I don’t think companies really care if you stay in the game or not. They just care that you buy it
@@daverock9091 they might be the wrong target audience for the game then

This lad looks so casual and you can see his a real gamer
We need more knowledge-based games, I love this. Very intrigued now.
This definitely got my interest, glad it's not too souls like with them janky old mechanics
Play sekiro you will love that
@@himanshupandey8771dude if someone is happy that a game isn’t a soulslike you are barking up the wrong tree recommending one

Preach, so excited for this game, been craving games that don't hold your hand. Death to way points!
