Anyone out there that has NEVER driving a supped up 289 engine or the HiPo 65-66 mustang do yourself a favor. Go find one and take it for a spin! These cars are SO light ( 2600-2800 pounds ) and that 289 is so QUICK to rev it really makes you say "How?" as in how can it be this quick! These cars can do 0-60 in 5 seconds! They did this IN 1965! Think about this When tested, the 1969 Camaro RS Z28 recorded a competitive 0-60 time of 7.4 seconds and that was thought to be quick. These early Mustangs were unique and something special.

They were fast. I raced a 289 one year back in 70.It WAS quick.

I have 67 289 project. Engine is rebuilt with a mild cam, headers.and intake. I never drove it yet it's getting the maintenance updated on it. The guy started it up before I bought it and it sounded a like a hot rod🤣🙈🔥🔥🔥🔥I'm definitely excited about it. He also had a 72 nova with a 383 stroker from the same shop the built the 289 in the mustang I bought. Very good shop in town.

I had one that was this exact car minus the 289 HiPo but I built one for it, using all of the important parts such as a windage tray, chrome molybdenum oil pump driveshaft, forged flat top pistons, crower camshaft, dual point distributor, headers & the same aluminum intake manifold. The cylinder heads were rough pointed and screw-in rocker studs were installed. Weighing in at about 3100 pounds, it could hold its own with many 327 Chevys. It was backed by a C4 transmission and 3.50 gears.

Had a 65 coupe 289 650 double pumper solid lift cam headers 4-speed and 4,63 rear gears. Extremely quick, barely had time to shift.

Fantastic, as usual. I can't imagine why the previous owner would want to sell it, it's like cutting off your own arm or leg. Enjoyed a lot the driving section... And I spotted that sweet GT on the garage.
