Steven, thank you! I have wanted to buy these books for a long time, but they are very expensive for me (I live in Turkey and $65 is like half of my monthly paycheck) and I never had the chance to buy them. Even if I can't win these myself, this giveaway made me very happy because thanks to you, one lucky person will be able to access these wonderful books. This was a very thoughtful gesture and it made me very happy. :')
I’m learning Ukrainian and am still very much at beginner level. My teacher uses some of the exercises from this book with me and I always find them useful and interesting. I also get a lot from your videos and webinars - thank you for being part of my Ukrainian language journey. And thanks to Steve for his generous donation - дуже дякую 🇺🇦
They look like very well-made, very well thought out material for learners. I actually have been looking for this kind of systematic approach. Thank you for this video and for the generosity of Steve.
"False beginner who's been learning Ukrainian randomly and chaotically" is basically my level 🤣 I'm not trying to move from A1 to A2, but from chaos to relative order in my learning (and in life in general, if I'm honest). I am however happy to have randomly exposed myself to tons of Ukrainian content over the past 18+ months, because my comprehension is improving, and I'm starting to grasp more advanced grammar and also cultural nuances: as a translator (i.e. a language nerd) that sort of thing matters a lot to me, and makes me feel at home in a language. I will get hold of the book as soon as I can because I am ready for more structure, and I plan to combine structure and chaos as I go on ☺ Thank you Nika, it's been a while since I had time to watch one of your videos and I've missed you! Your content is always top notch and I hope to study with you once I am more advanced. 💙💛
❤ So nice to read your comment again! :) There are dozens of ways to learn languages, and chaotic doesn't mean bad, it just is slower than when we have some certain structure. I hope the textbook will be helpful, but together with all other practices you already have it will be perfect)
This is awesome. Thank you to Steve for making this possible. It's been difficult finding Ukrainian language textbooks that provide a systematic course.

I have slowly been learning Ukrainian since my first visit to Ukraine 12 years ago, but am still very much a beginner! Before my first travel to Kyiv/Vinnytsia, I used Pimsleur's audio course to learn helpful phrases. This was quite helpful for learning pronunciation. I am not familiar with the yablooko texts - they look very helpful!
Nika and Steven, thank you so much for this amazing contest! I've been learning Ukrainian for a little over a year now, but I am in need of a more organized and structured learning method, and I think these textbooks could really help me. 💙💛

I am using the Yabloko text with a Ukrainian teacher through Italki and I will definitely agree with Nika, it is an excellent textbook. I am a Canadian high school teacher who teaches French and Spanish, and I prefer the structure that it has, starting with the alphabet, basic vocabulary, clearly explains the grammar and has very interesting articles. One of my favourites was in the beginner one, that talked about different foods from around the world, adding in humour to make it a delightful read.
Wow! Steven is very generous. I would like to do the same in the future. Maybe these books are just what I need. They will be my Christmas presents. 😃😊🤩

In Saskatchewan, Canada, we have a huge Ukrainian diaspora from 1920s and earlier. Saskatchewan culture is really Ukrainian culture in a way! I'm studying the language using apps but the textbook would be a huge help to me. Many of the older generation here speak the language still and it would be cool to impress them by speaking it! Дякую!
Дуже дякую Ніка і Стівен! Я вивчала українську мову на два роки, але я не пам’ятаю слова добре. The different cases are also difficult to memorize! I am still very much a beginner, but I try to practice everyday. Я мрію говорити вільно! 🇺🇦

I know that I am too late for the give away, but you got my attention regardless. As a US veteran, I have a passionate love for Ukraine. It is my dream to someday live there. The biggest challenge for me is learning the language, however. I have been studying for six months now, and it's not been easy. I just found your site, and as far as I can tell all of your videos seem to be fantastic 😊 Thank you...

Thank you Nika and Steve for a great opportunity! I teach English and have many Ukrainian students. I love learning Ukrainian as well so that I can help make my students feel welcome while they are away from their country. A good course book would be a great help to me!
I got these wonderful books from my native teacher, per her recommendation and I would highly recommend them coming as a native English speaker but would highly recommend you get a teacher to help master the A1, grammar cases, exceptions and various conjugation endings and when to use. If you need information on where to order or through the university like I did, I can help if interested. Motivation to learn comes from wanting to help veterans and people recover from PTSD and help them do day to day tasks to assist families of those who suffered. So I have a strong desire to learn the language to help others. Best of luck and don’t give up, it’s a beautiful language to speak and appreciate once it makes more sense. I’d like to thank the Ukrainian people for being so kind at helping me learn your language. Щиро дякую всім вам ) 🙏🏻🇺🇦

Hello Nika. I have been learning Ukrainian off and on for the last two years. I have relatives in Ukraine (my Grandfather was born near Romania). I have taken online classes but they have not used a specific text book such as these. One Text that I do recommend is "Mastering Ukrainian Cases Tables & Exercises" by Inna Samoilova. I like how these are structured and think I need on more additional beginning class to help master this. Thank you for all you do to promote the Ukrainian Language
I use Yabluko and I think it's the best method out there. I hope to one day use all this knowledge when I return to Ukraine, I had planned a trip in June 2022, but I was forced to change my plans.

Thanks! I couldn't find anywhere to buy yabluko in the EU 😢 I have used your lovely readers and another book "ласкаво просимо!" Which is for Italian speakers (I live in Italy!) Also I use Inna's book about cases ❤
These are awesome resourses too! Readers help us to feel the language better and Inna's book helps to master cases. These books are more like a sourcebooks for the whole level and different skills, and grammar and vocab. It could be a sceleton to which you might add any other activities and practices)

Hello Nika, thank you for your recommendation. I share your opinion that this is one of the best textbooks in general for learning Ukrainian. I have been trying for several years to find some decent textbook-tutorial for learning this language, but there is nothing interesting to note on the Polish publishing market. Therefore, I will be very happy if I find myself among these three selected to get the books free.

Hi Nika, those books really look good. If I do not win them I will sure buy them. I took an 8 weeks course last autumn with Inna and all the charity webinars with you. But I would still call me a beginner A1. I keep forgetting grammar and vocabulary as I can unfortunately not spend as much time learning (and practicing) as I wanted to. Right now I try to repeat what I learned with 2 German-Ukrainian learning books. Makes it easier for me (German native) to understand the grammar 🙂. But I also try to use the youtube videos to stengthen what I learned.

I have been to Lviv twice now during 2023. I stopped my Russian language classes, in February 2023, and switched to Ukrainian. I hope to take some classes from VERBA next year when I visit Lviv next.
I bought some of books because I love linguistics: "Svetlana Amir-Babenko - Lehrbuch der ukrainischen Sprache" and "Praktische Kurzgrammatik der ukrainischen Sprache - Svetlana Amir-Babenko, Franz Pfliegl" Buske is a publishing house that provides very high quality language books. They are in German, but maybe some people will appreciate them for their systematic approach! They describe most features of the Ukrainian language, but aren't structured like courses.
@@VERBA_SCHOOL Yes! One is a short description of the grammatical features. The other focuses on all aspects, like writing, phonetics, grammar, and gives detailed lessons for each feature. :)
Thank you Steven. Thank you Nika. Trying to learn Ukrainian on Mondly just wasn’t doing a good job. I definitely need more structure to my learning. FYI, just bought an apartment in Kyiv, so I really need to get serious with learning the language.
Hi Nika, great description of these books, thank you. Now I understand why these books are more expensive than others - they are so big ! Question: you said they could be used to study independently ; so they have the answers to the exercises in the back and is there a translation of the vocabulary into English in the vocabulary lists ?
They have vocabulary lists in Ukrainian with a space for your translation into your language after each module. It also has scripts for all the audio tasks in the end. But unfortunately, there are no keys to the exercises, I'd say that this is the biggest problem of this textbook( BTW, please make sure that you are subscribed, because RUclips doesn't show me your subscription and it is one of the giveaway conditions. After using a grammar based book in German, which was criticized be me, we use яблуко. Our teacher criticizes that there are no grammar explanations. What is your opinion about the missing explanations?
During the first months of learning Ukrainian, we were using the textbook УКРАЇНСЬКА МОВА - Практичний курс для іноземців by Г. Р. МАЦЮК from Ternopil University. It is very structured but definitely not colorful like the Яблуко textbooks. I also was not able to find the Яблуко books online for purchase actually.

I really like your channel. I find the lessons well-organized, "baby bear" quality (just right, not too much, not too little). I'm 73, native English speaker, and I study Ukrainian because I want the challenge of learning a Cyrillic-based language while helping keep my mental edge. That being said, at 73, I feel that the books would be better off in younger hands, so please don't include me in the give-away. I just wanted to leave a positive comment because you deserve it.

Hello :) The textbook is actually 100% in Ukrainian, even the tasks. But they are short and often you can intuitively guess what you need to do, or if not - you may use a translator to read the task. The tables are very obvious in Ukrainian too. Plus you have examples in the texts, so you can guess a lot from the context. If you like structured lessons, you will enjoy the book too) Oh, btw, please make sure you are subscribed, because RUclips doesn't show me your subscription((
I am also German. I learn with 2 different German-ukrainian books I found: Ludmilla Schubert: Ukrainisch für Anfänger und Fortgeschrittene and Vera Kolbina, Svitlana Sotnykova: Ukrainisch für Anfänger. This one also has a grammar book: Svetlana Amir-Babenko, Franz Pfliegl: Praktische Kurzgrammatik der ukrainischen Sprache. I found especially the explanations for grammar easier to understand in my native language 🙂
Hello! Thanks for responding. I know " Ludmilla Schubert: Ukrainisch für Anfänger und Fortgeschrittene". I was not the biggest fan of it. I switch the german. Es ist einfach nur eine Textwüste und wirkt auf mich sehr trocken. I am owning the Kurzgrammatik. I like it, even sometimes I think explanations could be more detailed. @@lgeortaidualc

I wish you good luck in the giveaway! Thank you for your kind comment! Best wishes to wonderful Turkey! :)
What a generous donation and fun idea. The books look great! They are just my level. 😊❤

Before my first travel to Kyiv/Vinnytsia, I used Pimsleur's audio course to learn helpful phrases. This was quite helpful for learning pronunciation. I am not familiar with the yablooko texts - they look very helpful!

Thank you for helping Ukrainians! ♥
I’ve been learning Ukrainian for a year and a half and know about these books 😊 I was just thinking how it would be wonderful to have them at home!

They have vocabulary lists in Ukrainian with a space for your translation into your language after each module. It also has scripts for all the audio tasks in the end. But unfortunately, there are no keys to the exercises, I'd say that this is the biggest problem of this textbook(

But… again thanks for all you do… & for the reply… & i will look forward to those cases courses with excitement… & fear 🤦🏻♂️ haha…
& i thought i was subscribed to you… i will go check & sort that…
Thanks again 😊
@@VERBA_SCHOOL i just checked & it did say subscribed… which i thought i was… anyway i unsubscribed… & then subscribed again… hope thats helped 🤷🏻…

Thank you for your lovely videos! I am a finnish teacher and I am teaching refugees and immigrant children who have just arrived to our country. We have many ukrainian students and I wanted to understand something about their language and culture. So I started to learn ukrainian language on my own. Learning has been very useful and it helps me to be better teacher. I can understand how difficult it is to learn completely different language. But the joy of being able to communicate is enormous. I' ve made new friends and now I'm also teaching finnish language as a volunteer to two ukrainian refugees living near me. Those textbooks you recommended seem very useful. If I'm not one of the lucky winners, where you can purchase books?
Hi! The link to the publisher is in the video description, but there is no purchase button, instead they ask to contact them via the email that they mention. They do answer quickly.
BTW, please make sure that you are subscribed, because RUclips doesn't show me your subscription and it is one of the giveaway conditions. Tonight we will already find out the winners! ;)
By 2021, I recognized that something big would be happened and I was considering to learn Ukrainian or Russia language in order to understand about the change of European geopolical change. Thanks to Putin, the answer is Ukrainian. Planned to buy a set of books from A1 all the way to Cx level. Like to try this one soon.
Great choice ;)

Це насправді було досить спокусливо.
This would be fantastic to have one of these sets of books, why you may ask. 4 weeks ago, I traveled to Dnipro to meet a very nice woman unfortunately she can only a very few words of English. Therefore, I would like to learn a little Ukrainian before we will meet again.
Yes, I was to Dnipro even though it is a war going on only 80 km south from the city, it took me almost 60 hours to get down there. It was a trip that I don’t regret that I did, I learned a lot about Ukraine and I fell in love with your Country. I will absolutely go to Ukraine again. I stayed 6 days in Dnipro and 3 days in Lviv on my way back home, Lviv is a fantastic city that I really fell in love with.

How can I buy A1 book in germany? Please inform me thank you so much.
Great gesture by the sponsor! I started to learn RU, but my interest has dropped off since the war. In future, I think there is more opportunity for me to visit UKR and speak UKR than RU. I don't see myself spending a vacation in RU in the near future, but I would like to visit UKR.
Amazing plan! Welcome to Ukraine! :)
As a student I often found myself in the situation of having to help out newcomers from Ukraine. We got by with broken English/German and the help of a translator app. Would love to help out our brothers and sisters and learn more about your culture and language. The only thing we were taught in (my) school is that Ukraine is our neighbour and little anything else, which I find rather sad. Wish you all the best.

I have been using the Colloquial Ukrainian (Press & Pugh) and Beginners Ukrainian (Shevchuk) texts while volunteering at a dog shelter in Kyiv. I wonder if anyone can recommend a book store here in Kyiv where I could pick up this recommendation as well. Having multiple resources is good. Sometimes one will explain something in a way that clicks for me when the others don't. Plus variety is good. :)

These books are valuable in both monetary and educational terms. For just one copy of the main book (of the three), it was three digits USD. Now I can't even find them: "Currently Unavailable". Anywho: TY for the video.
Yes, they are not cheap, but they are very hight quality really. To purchase you may contact the publisher via email, even if there is a wait list, they will stay in touch with you :)

Hi Nika. Very interesting video. I am from Germany and the books offered here to learn ukrainian are not so good. Of course would love such good books as in this video would exist in german version, too. But an english version of course is great, too.
If you like structured lessons, you will enjoy the book too)
Oh, btw, please make sure you are subscribed, because RUclips doesn't show me your subscription((
I am also German.
Thanks Nika for the explanation.
It's weird that youtube doesnt show that I am subscriber. I have subscribed your channel. @@VERBA_SCHOOL
