      I'm also a freshman, and I have something to say about this. It's good to learn the moves. But you need to learn how to control your opponents, this Arm Throw is an exposure move, not a Control move.

  • @Rascaltastic

    @Gumba237 The keys is momentum. This doesn't work unless your opponent is push into you. To set him up you need to push into him (which naturally should bait him to push back) and then you hit it. The footwork is vital also. You need to swivel your hips hard and your back should almost take the place of where your opp is standing. So as his momentum is going forward, the power of your hips (and back) is bringing him over top of you.

    This brings me back to pretty much my only moment of glory in wrestling. Well, it was kind of glory for a second and then got scary in a way. The opponent was not a strong or skilled wrestler. The arm throw was one of the few moves I really paid attention to in training. He seemed clueless and kind of just let me do it if I remember correctly. I was so pleased for about two seconds, and then he did not get up. He seemed to have been severely stunned. He was okay after a bit though, and the other team informed me that he was prone to injury. So that made me feel less guilty about it.

      @KOLATCOM  7 лет назад +30

      You shouldn't risk a move in competition unless you are comfortable with it. You can try it in practice but an arm throw is really a freestyle move and is not worth the risk in folkstyle because there is no slip rule lil ether have in freestyle.

    An important factor is following up or rolling into your opponent.
    It could be that you're rolling too much into it and he ends up above you.
    Or you don't roll enough and you're not exerting as much pressure on him, thus making it easier for him to roll you over.
    It takes practice. But you'll get it. It took me a good week to get a good consistent throw.

    it's the convergent evolution in wrestling. While this case foregoes any stable stance for bracing and lifting for directional changes and would be the same as momentum based ipponsei, the theory is essentially the same when you boil it down, though I think that Ipponsei would lend itself equally to going to the ground or staying standing, this would want to go to the ground to maintain control, either for a sport pinfall or self defense submission.

    @region015 In judo you can't grab the legs at all. Doing so is an immediate DQ. Also you can not bear hug. If both your hands go beyond your opponents obliques you will be penalized. Also you can not clasp your hand in a head and arm. If you you dont want to fight on the ground turtle up. No bent over posture. No locking an opponents sleeve.If you have a waist you have 3 seconds to throw them or the ref will seperate you. Anything other than a sleeve and lapel grip you ave 5 seconds to throw.

    Beautiful arm throw. Do you always have both arms under during the throw or can you utilize an over on the wrist side and under on the armpit side?

    • @KOLATCOM
      @KOLATCOM  Год назад +1

      The classic arm throw is from an over under position so yes you can throw from there. The point of this throw is to make your opponent feel comfortable after blocking his shot by giving him the inside position. So, both your arms are outside after the block. The outside arm on the throw side clamps his forearm to your chest while your other arm goes around and under the opponent's other arm as you back step in for the throw.

      headlock throws are a dangerous move against any decent wrestler...It will leave you exposed, especially your back...If it were me, I would focus on something else,,I would recommend the Lateral Drop,,my favorite wrestling throw..

  • @selaasar
    @selaasar 8 лет назад +1

    It looks like when you're completing the throw your body actually twists 270°, leaving you perpendicular with your opponent. Am I correct?

    • @selaasar
      @selaasar 8 лет назад

      Or maybe I'm thinking of an arm spin?

    • @KOLATCOM
      @KOLATCOM  8 лет назад +2

      Yes, an Arm Spin has more rotation then an Arm Throw. An Arm Throw uses your hips to lift the opponent and an Arm Spin uses the momentum and leverage on the arm from the spin rotation to throw your opponent.

    Great vid.. only thing I would add is that, while the end position is ok in wrestling... you want to avoid getting into a habit of continuing to roll after the throw so that you end up with your back to the guy on the ground. Like I says.. ok in wrestling.. bad habit in MMA or a one on one street fight. Just saying :)

Step into it while you add the second grip at the same time, load them into your back/ hip than literally just bow and pum that’s the throw if you want more power while they fall pull their arm down while they fall it’s pretty slick

    Now is that a 5 pointer? One leg was verticals while the other lateral?

      +Sam Walthers (Cyge) This would usually be scored as a 3 pointer in freestyle and greco. Most 5 pointers come form high amplitude back arch throws.

      That's what I thought. I didn't do much Greco freestyle. Only folk style. So the throw judging can be a bit confusing

      I love carrying this over to bjj schools. Ur high single front trip video showed a lot of my gym they don't know it all.

    Is it legal in folkstyle?

    • @KOLATCOM
      @KOLATCOM  9 месяцев назад +1

      Yes, but it is best to use the knee drop arm throw to avoid being called for a slam.

    My coach won't teach me the arm throw, any idea why? I feel like he thinks it's a "cheap" move

    • @KOLATCOM
      @KOLATCOM  7 лет назад +3

      Probably because there is no slip rule in folkstyle like they have in freestyle. So it is a risky move in folkstyle because if you slip off the arm you lose a takedown but in freestyle if you slip you are put back on your feet and restarted. The freestyle rule is meant to encourage more action and allow wrestlers to take more risks.
