  • This summer I began running SEF2-cycle engine fuel in my chainsaw and it now runs like a champ. My heat soak issues have disappeared and I can re start the chainsaw at any time during my work day.

    I can tell you 5 years later I've got a Troy-Bilt lawn mower with Honda engine and a 25cc 2-stroke Troy-Bilt curb fixed line weed eater. I run SEF 4 stroke(Red can) in my Mower an SEF 2 Stroke(Purple can) in the weed eater and do it for years now and I can tell you that that is the way to go for storage and Longevity purposes in small engine devices..

    I'm on my 3rd 1 gallon gas of the same premix this year. I have no problems. I use it in my weed whip and leaf blower for my small mowing business. One gallon of SEF premix last me about a month and a 1/2.

      SEF is pricey but I mainly keep it around unopened as a chainsaw fuel for emergencies.

    VP says it has a 5 year shelf life in an unopened can and a 2 year shelf life in the gas tank of your 2 stroke machine from the date it was manufactured. I’ve been using it for a couple of years in all my 2 stroke engines and it has cured the hard starting and excessive smoking in my tools. I don’t winterize my tools anymore since I’ve been using VP, I put them away at the end of October and bring them back out in March and they fire up in a few pulls just fine.

      That's been my experience with Tru Fuel and Husqvarna XP canned fuels. Tried going back one season to pump fuel and guess what? Had to replace the carb on my Stihl blower. I'll spend money now and have equipment that runs rather than spend money later to repair or replace equipment that doesnt.

    I use to buy motomix at my local stihl dealer. Well they stop selling it and I started buying trufuel. Both worked good in all my equipment. I was in Walmart one day buying garden seeds and happened upon on this sef fuel. I bought a gallon for $18.00 or so. It runs cleans and strong in all my equipment. It’s cheaper than motomix or truefuel. I’m sticking to this because it’s cheaper and I can find it locally.

      I just wanted to mention that tru fuel is only 110 ounces and the SEF is 128 ounces (an actual gallon). Some "gallon" premix cans contain less than a gallon, so SEF would be the better deal.

      That's only 3.00 a gallon! It costs me about $5.00 to make my own no ethanol mix and about $20 per gallon canned normally. Great score. Do they stock it regularly?

  • @mandolinman2006
    @mandolinman2006 7 лет назад +4

    When it comes to ethanol and small engines, I say no. I've had a lot of issues with it and even managed to wreck an engine after the ethanol damaged the carburetor and dumped so much gas in it got in the crank case while running. For two cycles, I use no less than 89 octane mixed with the Echo Red Armor oil. It has stabilizers to last up to two years.

  • @jims1942

    I just bought a can of that SEF 2-cycle fuel at WallyWorld this morning = $4.79. (5/1/18) That's all I'm putting in my new ECHO weed eater that I bought new last year. It is running great, even started right up this spring after sitting in my shed all winter. - If you think that SEF fuel is expensive per quart do the math ... how much $ is a little 2.6 oz. bottle of that 2-cycle oil? (about $3.50 here) + how much $ per gallon is non-ethanol fuel at your local gas station? (about $2.69 here) = The pre-mix SEF 2-cycle fuel works good for me. ;)

  • @virginia7125

    I've used that and the Tru-fuel versions. That's the best way to go. Active months it can get expensive over time. I do recommend this product for storage. Pump gas will go sour over winter unless you take everything in the shed and start them once a month. That's a pain. Most 2 cycle gear needs high test gas. 87 won't cut it especially on older stuff. It's best to use the non ethanol premium gas, but it's rare to find. Also it's expensive. I have used premium with Lucas ethanol treatment added to the mix. I haven't had any engine fails yet on equipment 3 years old. Some stuff over 5 years old has had carburetor kits put in. Never had any ethanol problems with push & riding mowers. Those can run on the 87 octane. The premixed gas in a can usually has a 95 octane rating. You may can take the 87 and add Moroso 104 to it. I never tried it. This will get the octane up to the level 2 cycles need.

    For reasons unknown I am unable to post a picture of my problem fuel.
    It's a gallon can of premix 2cycle fuel. I don't remember where I bought it.
    SEF (on the can) I can't find who to contact but this brand new can had a bunch of water in it.
    I had no idea why I couldn't get to restart. I took it to the Stihl dealer to fix it....$45 later And hear I am.
    Sorry to bother you however if you have a contact for this product I would be thankful.

    Ethanol gas has been in use for quite a while now. Nobody makes fuel lines that don't deteriorate in the presence of ethanol? Or is it that the manufacturers want the fuel lines to crumble so people go out and buy new equipment every 3 or 4 years?

    • @travisp11
      @travisp11  5 лет назад +1

      Rd Fc I think that the manufacture has not changed the composition of hoses, seals, etc that can resist long term ethanol exposure.

    So, I had no idea they even sold pre mixed fuel. I bought a can and ended up mixing 2.6 oz of this with a gallon of gas and ran my weedeater for about thirty mins. I knew something wasn't right, because the fuel I mixed still looked like straight gas. My weedeater was acting sluggish and I took a second look at the can and realized what I had done. Do you think I ruined my weedeater? It does start, but I don't want it to stop running in the middle of a customers yard.. I know there wasn't near enough oil in the fuel, but hoping there was enough to keep it lubricated

    • @travisp11
      @travisp11  5 лет назад

      Good question about damage. I would say take the weed eater in an have the carburator and lines drained. I'm not sure if you did damage but 2 cycle engines can be very finnicky with the gas to oil ratio. I have a ryobi weedeater that takes a weird ratio I can't buy pre mixed and if I don't get it just right, it runs poorly. If you want to save a few $$$ you can always make your own premix if you don't want to buy SEF.

      Out here in Nebraska, ethanol free gas is readily available and only about .30-.50 cents more per gallon. I like the idea of doing a pre mix but it is hard to beat the shelf life and convenience of having cans of SEF. For larger jobs I would mix my own, definitely.
