I love how Jane keeps telling her to get out of the car, Maura says she can't, so Jane gets annoyed at her. I would have been like, "BITCH, ARE YOU DEAF?! I CAN'T MOVE!" lol
when a car impacts you on the side, you move your legs to keep balance (even though your sitting, kinda like a roller coaster). as the front of the car impacted on whatever the crap it was, the dashboard got smashed forward, thus trapping her leg to the dashboard and the radio control
It doesnt really matter if they hit her side or not i was in the back of my dad's car when it someone crashed into the back of it and my mom was in the front and she got more hurt from whiplash than i did i came out perfectly okay just scared me really bad i had closed my eyes for a second and then BAM

I think her leg actually got pinned / crunched by the radio equipment in place of the center console, it looked like it dislodged at a funny angle. Might also explain why their only other injuries are some cuts and bruises - it seemed horrific, but the accident might not have been too severe, and it was only the big, boxy radio controls that caused the problem.
