  • In this video we do an AP Precaluclus FRQ #1 practice problem. Based on the Course and Exam Description (google AP Precalc CED), the FRQs are always going to look very similar every year, so I looked at what they gave us and made a new practice problem.
In this problem we have a table of values for the function f and the function g whose equation is given.
In part A we find a composition of functions and then evaluate the inverse at a point. I also explain why the function has an inverse.
In part B we solve an equation with our calculator and describe the end behavior of the function using limit notation.
In part C we decide what model (linear, quadratic, exponential, or logarithmic) best fits the function given in the table. I then go over the proper justification you'd give for each of those models.

nicely created! we had to submit some questions of our own question during the last summer appc training. would be cool if one of mine is selected

neat. i'll be teaching it next year. i've taught calc for about 20 years (yikes...) and was really surprised reading through the CED that the FRQs for this are so prescribed. I guess with that in mind we don't really need too many examples to give the students and idea of what the exam will actually look like, but more is always better for the students!
on something like (B) (i), solving g(x) = 4, do you reckon there's any expectation that students would show any work at all? seems like writing g(x) = 4 might not even be necessary, if the question says, "Find all x such that g(x) = 4" but it also seems crazy to show no set up at all and just a few x-values.
good luck to your students (and you, since I'm sure you feel a bit attached to their scores, i know i always do!)!!!

Is it possible you can do for FRQ #2? Im especially stuck with using average rate of change to find it and explain it.
