Love to see the old coffins. Made to last as long as possible, not like today's rubbish ones that they overcharge the people for. The old coffins are pieces of art, all handmade not like the ones they make us pay for today. Thanks G V for yet another great detailed video. All the best Andy.
as a funeral director i never encourage people to buy expensive coffins, i include a basic one in the price, especially when most of them are now cremations - why would you burn money
Ah, Scotland! 🥰 Loved the history lesson. That crypt is plenty big to accommodate a fugitive hiding out for a month, but eeeew it must have been nasty!
Yes I'm looking with you. My ancestors the McElyea's immigrated to the Appalachian 's ,states Virginia,Kentucky and Tennessee... that graveyard and the stones are absolutely gorgeous. Thanx for a beautiful video and the others from Scotland....I appreciate it so much.❤😊❤😊
Ahh GV another wonderful tour, thankyou. 😊 The skulls, cherubs and pictures on the gravestones are all very beautiful. The smell in the crypt is not from the deceased, they have been dearly departed for way too long to smell of decomposition. More likely, it is the stagnant water and some poorly animal which has wandered in to seek safety from predators whilst dying and then passed away. Top job for braving it though! 👏 ❤
Beautiful place. The crypt was huge! Surprised they are in such good shape after all these years. Thank you GV. I will be watching as my dad's ancestors are from Scotland.
Sometimes when I wake up during the night, I think of these old cemeteries and what they are like at night in the dark. I think about how silent they are and wonder if they feel lonesome or peaceful. Wonderful picture you found!
I'm from New York, so interesting to see people who came to America, Iowa and North Dakota. That's a beautiful old church and graveyard. Thank you for the video!
Over 1200 views and only 366 "likes"? Right, come on everyone, "thumbs up" doesn't cost a thing! Such an interesting graveyard GV, so old - historic. The size of that crypt for 4 coffins? As always, thanks for taking us along GV.
GV those are my Humes. OMG... Thank you. I'm related to those Humes/Homes. George the Immigrant Hume was my 9th great grandfather who had to come to America 🇺🇸. Wow...thanks. Those are all my ancestors . He was an indentured servant for the Jacobite Rebellion. Came to Virginia. I wish my grandmother was alive to see this. We were not friends of King Charles. Throughout the centuries people always had love hate relationships with the crown. Even the English as well. Thank you GV.
That was the crypt. But all the Humes outside the crypt I'm related to them as well. Yes, the man in the photo. There is also a Hume village and a castle that belonged to the Humes/Homes. @GraveVisitations
@cherylschantz9893 it's all very Historical to me. To know where all you ancestors come from. I love history. Of course I'm not one of those people who would show up and say hello, where's my tiara and castle. 😂😂😂😂
@@GraveVisitationsthe Humes go back to the Stewart's. King James V is my 14th greatgranddad and my 14th great grandmother was hid mistress Elizabeth Carmichael. Strange how King Charles was a descendant of James V. They pretty much all are. Small world.
Hi G V hope you are well what a lovely grave yard what a find how my god bless you you need to put a mask 😷 on your doing a great job GV ❤👍 thanks for sharing
It helps if you wear a mask and put a scent in it, maybe Vicks vaporub or mentholatum, or anything strong. A trick we sometimes had to use in hospital. Eugenol (clove oil) will cancel the smell of human rot or internal bleeding (that comes out). Janet Nevin was one of our ancestors who came over by ship to marry in the States. My paternal Grandmother’s last name was Haddow. We do have claim to the Stewart’s as well & some Campbells, according to family tales. Thanks for the tour! 🏴 🏴👻🏴👻🏴👻🏴👻🏴
Fantastic video Cathal. I'm guessing that smell is from the stagnant water mixed with whatever is on the floor... It's nasty I know. The kind of smell you can taste 🤢 thanks for sharing another beautiful video with lots of information
Thank you so much for sharing that nice Cemetery with those old-fashioned stones that I really enjoy seeing. The irony is of that man hiding in the Campbell Crypt, the Campbell's were not very close to the Stewarts which King Charles II was. So it's kind of not surprising that somebody would be hiding in a Campbell's cript since the Stewarts and the Campbell's did not get along.
Thanks Kindly for giving this tour of a Beautiful church and grave yard! The crypt was quite amazing as well. The country there is beautiful with the cattle in the distance and greenery! My Mothers side of the family came from Northern Ireland the name was Shanks. My Grandparents traced the Shanks back to the 1250s Scotland. I’ve not been there as yet but one day hopefully! Many Blessings! DaveyJO in Pennsylvania
I loved this video. Some names I'm familiar with on that vault. Not to say I'm related, but you never know. As an American, It's always interesting to see familiar names and we can't help but wonder if there is a familial connection somewhere. And I understand about that terrible smell. I wouldn't have been able to last as long as you did. Thank you for showing us this beautiful graveyard.
Great visit thankyou. Interesting history. Love visiting cemeteries in different townships gives a lot of history on the towns. Looking forward to more

@SuperBoomtown Correct you are, however in the 1300hrs onward certain plant extracts ,such as resin, pitch and often the body cavities were filled with plants ,some extremely high in arsenic. As well as usualy disembowelled
I don’t know what fascinates us so much, but I love old churchyards like this. I’ve visited the one in Whitby and Scarborough. Both very well respected and looked after, similar to the one here. I’m amazed at some of the dates I’ve seen and often imagine who stood there and visited afterwards. Most importantly, what they would make of us also standing there with these little gadgets which can actually hold inside them, images of what is right there. Mind blowing! Thanks for the videos.

The coffins are stood on stones the elevate them . This would be for air circulation.. I thought lead lined coffins were so they could not drain any body fluids. The smell must have been as you said from a dead animal.
