When Tom passed she had no reason to stay then start paying akl the bills and be abused,assaulted constantly by people who never liked her. They couldnt have consumated the marriage as he never even talked to her. They never loved each other or onew each other when they married. It was an arranged marriage for a supposed mother and housewife. Some wives stay because they did love the men but not in this case. Its a stupid plot
She failed herself. Her BIL failed her. What is horrendous is her FIL knowing what she was enduring told her to remain by her husband's side. He didn't care about her. She didn't care about her and the BIL didn't care about her. She didn't even seek revenge. She had to be kicked out and divorced to regain her life. She was the ultimate doormat.
Why did she put up with this for so long?

To let a little boy(Kevin) insult you like that, well you must have been real lonely (after your first husband passed away). If it was ME whom that little something treated like that, I swear I would have taught him a few lessons, even with his father present. I will have been THE CRUEL STEPMOTHER...and if his father objects or even wants to divorce, well he can go ahead. TO HELL with the both of them.
Ordinarily I feel it would be right for her to leave such an abusive life situation. However, I just can't find it in my heart to blame her for keeping her promise to a dying man. Also, many people like her in real life have been conditioned by past experience to see abusive treatment as normal. They end up bearing the double onus of suffering the abuse and getting blamed for it at the same time.

Tom is NO LONGER there AND David and Kevin want you. Accept it and just leave. Or do you want Kevin to start chanting: " Go away, you are just a burden old lady, go away."??
You should have taken care of David! Have him arrested for spousal abuse and divorce him taking him for all you could get. Leaving Kevin to his mother.
