Great review-straight and to the point, and good images to showcase dynamic range, color reproduction, highlight roll-off, etc. Wow! What a beautiful camera, something to aspire to owning some day. That being said, how could you not mention the lack of an EVF option! You came so close when saying it was difficult in sunlight, and again when critiquing the lack of hot shoe. How a camera like this that has such a history of studio fashion, product, and portraiture photography could omit a hot shoe for flash syncing without a janky cable implementation and an eye level viewfinder option is baffling. Also, not being able to tilt the LCD while in portrait mode would be a bit annoying, and I find that shooting with an eye level viewfinder while kneeling is an easier way to get lower angles than using a panel (especially a fixed one). It’s like they took the 6x6 design and forgot that you have to turn it on its side to get portrait angles and didn’t really consider a very important use case. They should have taken the opportunity to offer a $2k+ (or whatever crazy Hassy taxed price) rotating eye level EVF as another blingy accessory along side the $700 grip. I am dreaming, since I have no justification for dropping this kind of money on this beautiful machine, however enticing...
Thanks Osman. Terrific idea. If wanted this camera since it was first announced. Not sure that the images are that much better than say my D850 and I’ve been hoping for the 100 mp sensor to really separate it from Dslr world. Still this is the camera for those of us who have shot with 500 c/m etc. thanks again and keep up the good work
Thank you very much for watching, it’s great to see comments from you again. Differences in sharpness and dynamic range is mostly negligible but it’s colour that Hasselblad does better than most other systems. It really makes a difference.
Thanks for the video. Since I inherited a 500 C/M and SWC I'll be saving my nickels and dimes for the CFV II 50c. The fact that the 907x comes with it is an added bonus! Once again, thanks for taking the time to produce this informative video.
I love my 500C/M. TTL is nice, but I never needed that. But I consider buying a later 503 to have a replacement body. The best film camera Hasselblad ever made I think would be the 205... you can do everything you can do with the 503. And you have very sophisticated metering built in. Only downside: you need a battery. But as long as you can carry a replacement battery I think that’s not a dealbreaker 😅
Firstly, I found the review to be excellant and not too engaging in any particular portion. I have a 503cw and a 500cm and love them both and at 75 years of age have been looking to upgrade. Your review has given me just enough information to wait a little longer. The flash problems and such are a little off putting. But thank you; hopefully I'll be around long enough to seesome changes to 907X 50C that will justify the cost.
Why couldn't they have engineered the back to mount vertically? The older Phase One backs do on my 500cm and it works perfectly for portrait shots. C'mon, Hasselblad! :(
Love your comment about the sensor size. I really like the concept of this camera. The sensor size is the dealbreaker. I like my V-System optics and this huge crop isn’t gonna work for me. A 6x4.5 or even a 6x6 would be a dream together with the option to use HCD and XCD optics. I think I’m not the only who would consider paying 15 to 20k for such thing. I really don’t need a Mercedes. I’m happy with a Skoda, when I can afford a camera like that in return :D
Sonder Creative I agree with you about having this camera with 645 digital back. It will be amazing. Also Hasselblad can make optional EVF for this camera
I love this camera! Great design. Huge potential. And I think that even the lack of a hot/cold shoe isn't that big of a problem really. I mean, we can attach something like a flash bracket to the bottom of the camera (the tripod mount) and put our transmitters there, among other things :). Of course, a larger sensor would be very nice. But, it's quite expensive as it is and a larger chip would make it cost even more, astronomically more. Plus, I'm not sure if the XCD lens family can provide large enough image projection to cover the 53.4x40 chip.
Based on some conversations I’ve had, most of the lenses have been designed to have a much large image circles so they could cover sensor but maybe not optimised for the larger sensor. Feasible it seems.
@@Sondercreative This explains why the aperture is so relatively slow, compared to FF. Do they work with 6x6 film then? Does the 907X work with film back?
How do you think the 45P lens would cope as a daily driver for all around portrait, street and landscape? It's the most affordable lens, I mean for hobbyists this is like owning 1/4 of a Porsche.
I’m not personally a fan of that particular focal length but I know Anete is and she’d probably highly recommend most lenses around that field of view. It’s a great lens but the AF is a bit poor. We did review it a little while ago on our channel.
This camera is not for the hobbyist simply because of the cost. You would take better photos using a more affordable camera and lenses along with a good tripod, flash and or led light setup. Hobbyists should keep in mind, it’s important to take good photos but don’t forget the main objective, “It’s about having Fun!”
You don't have to worry about the missing cold shoe for the flash. You can simply buy an appropriate camera cage and attach the flash trigger to the cage, that simple. I wish the sensor size to be bigger too. Like you say, they have the 53x44mm H6D sensor which is still only 55% size of 645 film; but the H6D sensor sells for $26,000+. But bigger makes it more meaningful only if you are going to snap it into a V-back and use it on a view camera. However, with the right lens choice, such as the Rodenstock 100mm f/4 Apo-Sironar digital HR Lens ($4,800), the image circle is well matched to the 907X sensor size, and all is well as is, (Marriage made in Heaven). What is more debatable is Fuji has now shown the world, with its new GFX 100S market entry, that this size sensor can accommodate 100MP. I say this Blad needs to go back to the drawing board. Now!!! For it is already obsolete.
Price difference to the X1D II isn’t that big. I went for the 907X because i still have my 500 Classic. I’ve found that the system freezes quite a lot. Resolved by restarting or battery out, but I wish it didn’t.
Hasselblad is great and awesome! usually medium format cameras Never arrives here in the Philippines, cause only a few can afford, its very very expensive for us filipinos.
Nice video dude! No hotshoe and no eye level EVF is a deal breaker for me. This would be my favourite camera and I would buy it if it had an EVF. I can live without a hotshoe...maybe. But not being able to shoot portrait format easily and at eye level with an EVF is just crazy to me. I can't understand it. Shame, I agree it's the best thing going otherwise.
You mentioned you want Hasselblad to produce a true 6X6 MF but would you buy it at those price range? I am guessing Hasselblad will price it at $25,000 or higher?
Hey I’m just curious have you ever used the phocus hasselblad software and what your thoughts are of it? Especially shooting tethered. I wonder how it compares to capture one. Thanks for videos.
Phocus on the iPad is amazing, especially for wireless shooting. I was so impressed by it and the speed at which files are downloaded. All the images we took for billingham were originally processed in Phocus and then exported to Photoshop, the files you see in the video are the final PSD files. Phocus on the desktop is good to get the most out of Hassy files but it’s a bit slow and I don’t like the overall interface. Personal preference though.
Dust does get onto the sensor eventually but it wasn’t a really issue. I had to use an air blower after a couple days of use but it wasn’t a great deal of dust.
The 907 is a "digital version" and a tribute to the 500 series. Putting a hotshoe on top of this camera would be like the titanic without chimneys. With the film Hassies you look at mirror via the top, which is there is NO HOT SHOE 😅 Luckily there is the xd series 👍🏼
I don't know I think we disagree on this one but that's fine :). Also, I meant a cold shoe more than anything just some place to put a trigger so the camera can be used with flash more effectively.
You have a film Hasselblad there with you and you don't show how the CFV II can be mounted on it? I think a lot of people will buy the 907x with little intention of using it: just for the back. You can mount it on an old Hassy, or on the back of a view camera with an adapter.
Awesome analysis however re your comments on shootibg portrait: I thought it was a 6 x6 square sensor size. So no need for prtrait mode...? I coukd be wrong maybe ?
What an amazing camera, the best thing Hasselblad has ever made: FINALLY dual SD card slots, lcd that is hard to read/see in light, more money for a grip (with awkward shutter) , more money for a viewfinder, the latter works with only three lenses (does not with his favorite portrait lens), no hotshoe to attach the remote trigger... but yeah the best camera they've ever made. Meanwhile for $6G you buy a Canon top of the line with 12 bit images and same color quality. For the same money you get top of the line Sony and a lens. What a joke. Large format cameras are nowadays just as good as medium format.
I think people value different things and you're right to dislike this, that's completely reasonable. Having said that, Canon doesn't have the same colour quality as Hasselblad, it's noticeably worse.
@@Sondercreative I get it, different tools for different jobs. BTW I did not write the comment to barrage on you, just pointed out the flaws that 6K camera has. Also, I missed that it has no live histogram either lol
@@vruychev tone of voice sucks in text lol. I should clarify, I’m agreeing with you haha. I’m aware that some people will not like this camera and thats completely fine.
Its been verified by Hasselblad and Sony who produce the sensor. That doesn’t mean its a flaw, its just that it doesn’t have the same colour flexibility as the Hasselblad 100c back.
@@Sondercreative Ok, thank you. You know, it looks like 8K 12 bits monitors might be the standard in the near future. With that kind of screens, every color nuance counts. It really bugs me that a manufacture can sell cameras with inaccurate specifications.
@@angulosobtusos110 Hasselblad upscaled the sensor the 16-bit to technically they’re correct in how they advertise the camera. Its just not a true 16-bit sensor. Its kind of how some monitor manufacturers claim 10-bit despite the fact that it’s upscaled. I know what you mean though because it does lead to many people thinking its the 16bit sensor like their 100c back when its not.
"best camera I've shot with" but it needs a hot shoes, can't sync flash easily, needs a very expensive grip to shoot vertical shots etc etc. Sounds like you love the aesthetics more than anything.
When will camera companies learn that ergonomically, then gripping like that (and with just about every camera) the obvious place for the shutter button is on the front side, not the top? That's why guns have a trigger with a vertical surface, it's ergonomic.
what version of the godox trigger are you using? I have the 907x but can't get mine to work with the trigger unit i have, I might have to switch over to godox and pick up some units just to test it out.
I think the Hasselblad people should ask real photographers to design their cameras. Shame on Hasselblad for being so minimalist to the point that those lacking features are like walking with a stone inside de shoe.
I am sorry to say but the color science looks exactly the same as on the Nikon D300/D700 as it uses the same 10 year old cmos sensor but cropped into a bigger sensor.
Sonder Creative I am comparing the same sensor and the colors shown in your video looks very close to what I get from a D300/D700 when opening the nef files even though the sensor is slightly bigger than 35mm it's the exact same 10 year old sensor used in those hassleblads and Fuji GFX1. The cmos output colors started to change a lot with the newer sony sensors with better overall response to mixed lightings and more accurate color reproduction, I really hoped Hasselblad and Fuji would have used the newer sensor tech for such amazing cameras but they still look very nice
fthprod photo-video I’d love to see if you can produce a fair comparison when done side by side in the same scenario. Comparing images you’re taking with images you’re seeing on RUclips is probably not the way to go.
Sonder Creative well you are the one posting videos explaining that the colors are amazing so we need to refer to your video to believe that. When you show those examples here, the colors (and not the details obviously) look exactly the same in your files than old generation cmos sensors. Your own eye might just feel those colors are unbelievable because of the high resolution and detail but sensor tech has been improved since. I am not saying the colors are bad (I use myself old cmos, ccd and foveon cameras and know their limits too) but this sensor is exactly the same 10 year old sensor used in the first cmos based Pentax 645z, which has been reused in the Fuji GFX and Hasselblad X1D which is a bit a bummer to compete with the new Nikon Z or Sony cameras that offer better tonality and dynamic range for a lower price. That being said the camera and leaf shutter are great, but at this price point, photographers might ask themselves which is the best camera system and a new sensor is extremely important in this equation. Nikon offers a very interesting new system with their new Z mount and very high quality glass but Hasselblad really offers something appealing too and it's glass has very special character BUT the sensor is 10 years old.
YEs it does - the same one in the ten yr old Hass H system - I use a H5 50c - but the color in Phocus is twice as good as Canikony and thats before we get to image quality - it has to be printed to be seen - as for GFX - it blows them out of the water for IQ. I had a GFX50s but unless you like green and magenta it is terrible. Buuuuut - I don't like the X system which is why I use the H and even that has limitations - and I would save for a 100c H6 buuuuut Hass have stopped devving that system now - sooooo I have just had a very expensive conversation with Teamwork Digital about Phase One - anyone want to buy a house, children, kidneys etc.....?
Unfortunate it’s not down to Hasselblad, they don’t produce sensors. They’ve never produced film either so it’s not something they do. Camera sensors are mostly produced by Sony and if Sony doesn’t produce a square format sensor, then unfortunately Hasselblad doesn’t have one either. It’s not something they’ve ever had a hand in. Having said that, they could produce a 645 version of this camera so for that I’m not sure they have a good excuse.
It is a 14bit sensor based on the actual hardware. The 16bit rating is gained by upscaling the images which is not the same as an actual 16bit capable sensor.
You sound like an American reviewing an Apple product! You call it the best thing to happen to medium format but you continue to make excuses for its shortcomings.
youve complain about the price a little, and you wanted a bigger sensor. ur pushing it a little bit. to be honest, the sensor size is right on point with its price. anything bigger wont be feasible and will just drive the price up. besides, ur not that great with using it. ur lighting and composition is all over the place with the images u showed. master that first before you complain a lot of the system.
I don’t think I complained about price as much as I simply mentioned it. Also a larger sensor camera exists and is feasible. Hasselblad has currently got two cameras with a larger sensor so it’s definitely feasible. Once they move to the 150mp sensor, the 100mp could comfortably be repurposed for the CFV and the price could be within reason too. Also your critique of the images we produced is without merit and of no consequence. Ultimately it only matters what our clients think and the images are being used by them :).
You're absolutely right. I was speaking more in relative terms to what many in particular market segments would purchase. Nonetheless, what you said is correct.

The 907 is a "digital version" and a tribute to the 500 series. Putting a hotshoe on top of this camera would be like the titanic without chimneys. With the film Hassies you look at mirror via the top, which is there is NO HOT SHOE 😅
Luckily there is the xd series 👍🏼
I don't know I think we disagree on this one but that's fine :).
Also, I meant a cold shoe more than anything just some place to put a trigger so the camera can be used with flash more effectively.
Yes we have a different opinion 😊
I also don't like the grip, but hey... It is nice that it's there for those who do like it 👍🏼
You have a film Hasselblad there with you and you don't show how the CFV II can be mounted on it? I think a lot of people will buy the 907x with little intention of using it: just for the back. You can mount it on an old Hassy, or on the back of a view camera with an adapter.
ruclips.net/video/iAmN2kX93yQ/видео.html
We decided it would be best to produce a dedicated video on that subject. That way it’s not one super long video. Hope that helps.
Nice, but can you attach Canon tilt shift lenses to it?
Yes you can :). EF to XCD adapter, electronic shutter.
@@Sondercreative does that mean flash is not possible when using electronic shutter?
@@andrewporfyri559 I think it might be but at really slow shutter speeds. Probably not usable in many situations though.
Awesome analysis however re your comments on shootibg portrait: I thought it was a 6 x6 square sensor size. So no need for prtrait mode...? I coukd be wrong maybe ?
Unfortunately it’s a much smaller digital sensor, same as the one in the X1D II. This means it has a 4:3 aspect ratio.
43.8 x 32.9 mm
6x6 is for film!! XD
Can we get Sony a7riii review in 2020
Possibly. A long term review of that could be good. I’ll put it on the list. Thank you very much for the suggestion
@@Sondercreative 😀
How can you be so sure it is a 14 bit sensor? At least in this youtube video i could not see any color flaws.
I know what you mean though because it does lead to many people thinking its the 16bit sensor like their 100c back when its not.
no vertical grip :(
If it had IBIS it would be worth considering. Until they come out with a version II with IBIS....I'll pass.
I have profoto flash and 907X. will my profoto sync work with it?
As far as I know it should work fine with the sync cables.
Why would you shoot portraite, when the image is a square?
It’s not square. It has a 4:3 aspect ratio.
"best camera I've shot with" but it needs a hot shoes, can't sync flash easily, needs a very expensive grip to shoot vertical shots etc etc. Sounds like you love the aesthetics more than anything.
And colours it produces.
When will camera companies learn that ergonomically, then gripping like that (and with just about every camera) the obvious place for the shutter button is on the front side, not the top? That's why guns have a trigger with a vertical surface, it's ergonomic.
It’s a little annoying lol. I got used to it though, but I know what you mean.
These sensors are 14bit all up till date x2d ii 907 x 2024 ????
The older 50mp sensor was 14-bit, however the new 100mp sensor in Hasselblad and Fujifilm is proper 16-bit.
oh is that so,. ? thank you for the reply & for the videos,... Thank you @@Sondercreative
what version of the godox trigger are you using? I have the 907x but can't get mine to work with the trigger unit i have, I might have to switch over to godox and pick up some units just to test it out.
Hi Bryan, sorry to hear about the issues. I've placed links below to the trigger and cable that I used.

@@Sondercreativeso the canon trigger in particular works? That's what i was wondering.
@@bryanwortiz we used the Canon trigger, we haven’t tried any other versions yet. The Canon trigger definitely worked.
why are your highlights blue
Which ones please?
No weather sealed. That’s really bad
Add cell phone tech to camera’s and more people, many more people will buy them. It’s sadly still the other way around
I completely agree, but it’s great to see how companies like Hasselblad are utilising smartphone like menu systems so it’s a start.
The ugliest part is the 90s style design viewfinder, the other parts I'm also not convinced
I think the Hasselblad people should ask real photographers to design their cameras. Shame on Hasselblad for being so minimalist to the point that those lacking features are like walking with a stone inside de shoe.
That could be useful for the company haha.
I am sorry to say but the color science looks exactly the same as on the Nikon D300/D700 as it uses the same 10 year old cmos sensor but cropped into a bigger sensor.
That’s cause you’re comparing the same brand. There’s a level of consistency that companies aim for.
700$ the grip ! Men, I just going to stay with Sony...
the square format is asking for so many many years I thing hasselblad is deaf . They sold their soul long long time ago about square.
Bloody h.. those prices
👍👍👍
Nowadays it should have a EVF…
It’s 16BIT, Not 14bit. You said 14bit color. 16 BIT
It's manna........
Title: best thing to happen to Medium Format
Video: everything about this camera is annoying af
Lol well I guess that’s what happens when you really like something but also want to remain objective. It’s a tricky balance to maintain.
Tx, but what is this stupid music for?!
This camera is ghetto
Value for money is a subjective statement .. doesn’t exist in reality .....
You're absolutely right. I was speaking more in relative terms to what many in particular market segments would purchase. Nonetheless, what you said is correct.
are there white people in london?
BS system .
How a camera like this that has such a history of studio fashion, product, and portraiture photography could omit a hot shoe for flash syncing without a janky cable implementation is baffling.
I am dreaming, since I have no justification for dropping this kind of money on this beautiful machine, however enticing.
