  • CGI Horizon Zero Dawn Animation Reel by Richard Oud. Featured on www.cgmeetup.net/home/horizon-...
    A small collection of my animations from Horizon Zero Dawn for Sony Playstation 4. Richard Oud: was the lead animator during the 6 year development of the project, focussing full time on the robots in-game making sure the style, look and feel of the robots stayed consistent by the team.
    6 years is a long period, so Richard Oud picked a handfull of animations that showed a wide variaty of motion and action on the robots I was mostly focussed on myself.
    Big thanks to the entire team at Guerrilla Games for all the hard work and dedication the last couple of years.
    This video is for demoreel purpose only and is not representative of the final game quality (lighting test levels were used to capture the animations from a devkit)

    I love how you can just tell the "personalities" of these creatures just by the way they walk

    Watching this in slow motion, pausing at interesting poses, and sketching has improved my anatomy and perspective greatly. I really enjoyed working with these as references. It was great.

      Gerry Taylor well technically if there was nothing to look at then there would be no game so we all play it to look at it ;P

    I graduated with a BA degree in Media arts and Animation. I'm still learning to push my animations to this level of professionalism. I hope one day I can reach it. I sometimes get lost and get discouraged. People are looking for guys with experience and all I have is school and at home experience.

      Sergiy Golovin Ha! I agree. Maybe it was a cleaning reaction to get a piece of dirt or a rock out of its body where it could interfere with circuitry?

    • @dannymorales787

      Maya or Blender. They're both great programs although I like simple and to the point which is why I use Maya. Maya is free if you have a school email. Blender is free for everyone. Using one or the other wont give you an advantage.

    The animation is smooth, but it's too smooth. It doesn't feel like it has any weight to it. The bird for example flies as if its an oscillating spring, as opposed to a real animal. And the animals when they move, feel glue-y. I don't know how else to describe it. It kind of gives you a headache if you pay to much attention to it. I would love to be an animator. I would study real life animals and really get a feel for how they move.

    • @tylerhale5837
      @tylerhale5837 7 лет назад

      If only I get what you mean, but as an animator(in training) myself I must say, these aren't meant to be real animals. Robots will always move differently, and when animating things you need to keep in mind what your character is and how it differs from the thing you are studying as a reference. After getting so frustrated at my work because it wasn't working, I went home and spent a good while playing with my animals, moving their feet gently, figuring out how they worked. I went back to working on my project only to realise that my work isn't based on living breathing animals, and as such it can be different and move differently.
      Also keep in mind that us animators aren't perfect, we try our best but sometimes we can't get what we want to work, so we settle.
