I don't question any of Sheen's critique of communism and totalitarianism. His words brought me back to the end of 1984, the most tragic denouement I ever read. Winston Smith realized he loved Big Brother, a fate immeasurably worse than death. The disconnect for me comes from the truth that Roman Catholicism has authored countless totalitarian acts. Sheen was an ecumenist, a progressive in many ways, but I can't miss the irony here.
Communism undermines the self reflection and the course of the individual understanding of the human soul by suppression of education and the subversion of education. Having studied philosophy in its many forms I would broadly agree with this report of Fulton Sheen.
Blessed be Fulton Sheen, may he pray for us in this difficult times while we learn again and again from his teachings
