Received my cub in black Micarta a few days ago and I am very impressed with it so far. I see the cub has been out of stock this week so I am glad I ordered mine last week. Those scales are hot but I like the subdued black Micarta scales. The cub arrived wicked sharp and I will break it in this weekend. Love the size and the way it feels in hand. Been carrying this horizontal appendix and it feels good even though it’s the largest fixed blade I carried appendix to date. This is my first WR blade and it’s a winner.
It seems like everyone loves this knife. Lately ive been thinking i wished I had a slicier knife with micarta scales. The fact its magnicut and can take some hard use is fantastic. A perfect EDC/camping/outdoors knife.
Im not in the market but the value is just crazy! It even comes with the firesteel and a holder for 200$. Well done WRKT! I also LOVE the retention system. I would love to see this on your designs too. 😊
Awesome video Jacob. Couple sidenote first of all it’s Canuck land because I officially renamed it for the future annexation. I talked to Armatus as well, I’m eager to see that come out.
Not sure if you check your comments on older videos but could you maybe say more about what you started talking about at 15:00 regarding the economy and how the golden age of the knife industry is not likely to last long? Cheers.
I agree- one of the things I sometimes don't like about general kephart designs is the somewhat obtuse point that can make it difficult for carving in small spaces- you don't have a thin point that you can get into spots. They can also make piercing difficult. Having a longer thinner blade profile at this tip imho is more versatile.
@@Thepreppersbunkeroutdoors You're exactly right. I think I mentioned to you I learned my Kephart was not a good field dressing/skinner because of the obtuse point. It was at night on a cow elk...not the best time to learn that. Fortunately, I had a Helle Eggen with me, too. 🙂
Nice review, that's a beautiful knife! If you ever decide to part with that Mexican Blanket Ursus Cub please let me know. Cash or a ton of interesting trade offers.
@@Thepreppersbunkeroutdoors To be honest, the black kydex looks out of place with this scales. Light brown leather would be my choice to match this. But many colors would work, obviously. 🙂
🥰🥰🥰🥰🥰🥰Love it! Great review. Hey Jacob, I have BOTH the Jackalope and Adventurecraft knives. Bought them early on with black scales. Is there any way I can purchase a diffenrent set of scales? I really like the "Natural" micarta you are offering now and would like to change up my scales without having to buy an entire knife. Thx!
Hey Jacob :) I have a question about the White River Ursus 45 in s35vn, how will it stand up in heavy use such as batoning oak etc? Is the steel and heat treat good enough for such abuse? I have no experience with s35vn, or such a high saber that the seems to Ursus have. My other knives have held up to such abuse quite well, in 1095 steel, 14C28N, 3v. And how is it in terms of egde chipping? Thank you so much, mate!
@daginn896 so, I have an fc7 that I have batoned a good bit in realistic wood- that is to say maybe it has some knots and maybe the grain isn't straight but the size of it still made it practical. I wasn't sweating while beating on it with my monster baton for 30+ minutes. So for what I have used it for it has been AMAZING and I absolutely trust it- especially with the shorter blade length of the ursus 45. With that being said I should absolutely put a hurting on it to see the limit. I would trust the ursus 45 without ANY hesitation for any practical task based on my experience with the longer fc7
Looks like they spent more time on making a good usable sheath for the cub than they did for the m1 caper (supposedly their flagship knife) I bought the m1 caper and love the knife but the sheath sucks for the price point I paid for the knife.
@@Thepreppersbunkeroutdoors retention is not adjustable like it seems to be on the cub’s and there’s not any sleeve towards the scales that would give it more stability in the sheath
Great knife. I got the regular micarta scales. Considering the relentless invasion at the Southern Border, the "upgraded" scales are a bit tone deaf from my perspective.
I don't think many people are so worried about the invasion at the southern border (of people who are not mexican) that they would choose to not like a set of colors that represent a Mexican blanket. If it were tone deaf they wouldn't have all sold in like an hour. 🤷♂️
Well, these Mexican Blankets sold out fast! It's a bit over 12 hours after they should have dropped, and they are sold out. Ditto for the plain janes. Sold out. I look forward to getting one in my hands when the supply stabilizes, or when Blade Show West rolls around again.
Glad to see 64 is your aim hardness for magnacut and thinner behind the edge than most production knives. I'm not a fan of magnacut less than 63. If I want toughness I'll go with delta 3v Or K890. Model looks good though.
Going over 63 can and will lead to premature dulling due to micro chipping in hard use with thin edges. 62-63 is good for a hard use outdoorsy knife or edc imo. 62 won’t easily roll even when coming in contact with bone, and it won’t micro chip with thin hard edges like 64 will. If the edge is thicker or it’s not a rough use knife then 64 is good
