How it felt too hot and then too cold with the seasons, how it smelled different in different parts of the city: near the water, in the stair cases of old buildings, at the bus stop on the blvd, or in different train stations (above ground.. below ground ...) hip-hop wasn’t really a business, it was local. It was us. How WE rocked some shit made it Fresh. We didn’t even call it culture back then, it was just how life was growing up in NY.
